Issa is closing down the meeting, Cummings asserts what he calls a "procedural question" that's really a political scolding, and Issa cuts the microphone and walks out. It's pretty unpleasant. Here's the video:

Here we are now, entertain us.
Just give her testimonial immunity and get on with the show.
These Republicans are so determined, to destroy themselves, it would be funny if it wasn't also shamefully tragic.
I sincerely doubt if they can recover after their recent showings,...
why can't fifth ammendment rights be asserted piecemeal. Why do you waive them all or not at all.
Are there any prior 5th assertions over fictional accusations?
I don't think that's unpleasant. If the chairman closes the meeting then it's closed. If someone wants to keep talking then that's their business and they are free to do it on their own time. I saw Issa do nothing in the video that was inappropriate. In fact he was courteous enough to sit down until it was clear that Cummings did not have a question but was just making the same speech he has been making for months. You are too accustomed to faculty meetings where individuals are allowed to blather on regardless of the merit or applicability of what they have to say.
If she's concerned for her safety, put her in jail. Solitary until she's ready to talk.
So, the issue is boiling down to whether a white guy can talk back to a black guy.
Figures.
I don't understand this immunity issue. Either she waived her rights or she didn't. Hold her in contempt or give her immunity. Why all this fussy?
I guess a federal court has the last say on this issue so why didn't they take it to court months ago?
Issa = Don Quixote.
The committee is nothing more than a stage for pseudo prosecutorial histrionics.
Edentulous.
You can't seek the truth if you have an adversarial media seeing and hearing no evil.
Just give her testimonial immunity and get on with the show.
Exactly. Maybe she is the biggest fish to fry, but it's worth letting her walk away to find out.
Issa shouldn't have done that. While I suspect that Mr. Cummings has done his best to derail this investigation (and others), it just plays into Democrats hands.
Cummings has this coming and far more.
The man is a pig.
khesanh0802,
"I saw Issa do nothing in the video that was inappropriate."
Inappropriate? No, it's perfectly right and legal, but shouldn't you follow that sentence with "I apparently also can't see when Republicans look like total assholes in the eyes of voters"?
Voters. The one group these morons ignore as they narcissistically try to get their own way before anyone else has their say.
Like I said - this will be Romney II - and it's tragic,...
It's a war on women.
If given immunity, why would she not say she was behind all of it? That may be the truth but we would never know. She would be free and clear plus she would protect the administration. She'd land a cushy job somewhere out of the spotlight and no one would pay for the crime.

I suspect it is because court proceedings could take a long time, what with appeals and all. Or it is because Issa is wrong on his interpretation. I've given up on the idea that Congress doesn't want to cede its prerogatives to another branch of government.
Rep. Cummings has been in office since 1996. He is well past his expiration date.
@Crack
I don't want you for my Token Black friend.
I am willing to pay you absolutely zero for agreeing to vote in the manner you think I prefer.
I'm not looking to you for advice on the general outlook of all blacks. You're a miserable failure. You don't represent anybody, except maybe for basket cases.
Phony scandal.
Not even a smidgen of corruption.
why can't fifth ammendment rights be asserted piecemeal.
"the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God"
Imagine what fun it would be to cherry-pick the truth.
Rep. Cummings has been in office since 1996. He is well past his expiration date.
Issa is a car thief and suspected arsonist.
You'd think at some point Cummings would decide embarassing himself and tarnishing his own reputation is too high a cost to protect a pack of fools. And when they go down he'll be the one everyone remembers defending them.

Harry Reid is an accused pedarast.
This is no different than the stifling of debate exercised by Sen Reid as to what gets dealt with in the Senate, makes no difference to me that it was down in plain view. Elections have consequences.
I thought the reason Lois Lerner was invited back is because she was going to talk this time. It looks like someone got to her.
Elijah Cummings apparently thinks his role is to run interference for the Obama administration when they use the IRS to target and damage political opponents. Democrats have had plenty of time to justify their decision to politicize the IRS. First it was a few rouge agents. Now the story is that nothing was done wrong. Isa apparently didn't think his committee was the appropriate place to continue the whitewash.
With the IRS now firmly established as a pseudo secret police force, I suspect that we are about to embark upon an era of flourishing black markets in the U.S.
Attempts to prohibit freedom of association, free markets and to hound opponents with secret polices forces inevitably lead to flourishing black markets, both economic and political.
Now that all the progressive market manipulations have failed, wage and price controls cannot be far off.
Go for it folks. Conceal everything. The government is your enemy. Do what you want to do, conceal it and ignore the enemy until you must do battle with it.
Federal employees should be required to provide full and complete information to Congress. Failure should mean dismissal for cause and full loss of benefits.
They are free to take the 5th to avoid prosecution, but we don't have to continue to employ them.
I have a question.
Ok. What is your question?
First let me make a few comments -
Seems to me it it is pretty clear Elijah Cummings was out of line - again.
And it looks like Ms. Lerner needs to make a decision as to which of her lawyers she wants to listen to.
Or the White House got surprised when they heard she was going in to testify.

This abuse of power is a dead give away that many of the people who call themselves "liberal" are actually power hungry statists.
Harry Reid is accused of using campaign funds for personal use.
So this is how it goes, when they have authority they censor. What hypocrites. The same thing was done in the Wisconsin Legislature.
At this point, the next step is to be held in contempt and to sit in a jail cell until she decides to talk is it not?
More indications that this goes to the White House if not the Oval Office.
The good news is, after the crooked son of a bitch is out of office, his immunity to everything but Congress ends and you can appoint a special prosecutor to put him in jail.
The leftist fantasy of someone getting let away in handcuffs may yet come to pass!

Give him time, he's looking for the talking points on that.
I wonder if Harry Reid has any ties to Lois Lerner? we already know that the IRS leaked tax information to leftist groups.
"Reid claims an “old friend,” whom he refuses to name, has the down low on Romney. “The word’s out that he (Romney) hasn’t paid any taxes for 10 years.” “Let him prove that he has paid taxes, because he hasn’t.“
Gosh, now I know how Garage has so much fun with the Scott Walker stuff.
Welcome to leftist partisanship applied to the law, where the ACCUSATION is the conviction and where the ACCUSED has the burden to prove that the accusation isn't true.
We could probably apply the doctrine to many different segments of American life. Let's try it out:
Crack, You are Racist. Prove that you aren't. (but remember that the accusation is the proof that you are, and you must provide to me, the person making the accusation, proofs that I will accept, and if I don't accept them, the accusation stands)

How is this censorship? Cummings can say whatever he wants. I'm sure he has already presented his side of the story to every reporter outside in the hall. And he kept yelling after the microphone was cut off.

Don't count on it. The USA could easily slide into a corrupted semi-authoritarian government in which there are still elections but the playing field is so tilted towards the left that the outcome is inevitable. Venezuela is in the end stages of that type of lefty government. There is no reason to think that our country is immune to that contagion.
So this is how it goes, when they have authority they censor. What hypocrites. The same thing was done in the Wisconsin Legislature.

You ought to be very concerned when Nixonites or Obamites are in power and use the power of government and scary powerful Fed Agencies like the IRS and Justice Dept to try and destroy people in the opposition.
It has to stop, or like when Nixon was gone, soon Obama will be gone. When the shoe is on the other foot we do not want a perpetuation of use of the IRS, FBI, AG, EPA to harass, intimidate, and criminally prosecute "enemies on a list" the next Administration is tempted to compile.
Agree with McCullough. Stopping this abuse of government power by partisans is worth the price of giving the despicable Louis Lerner immunity. So she can testify before Congress and hopefully in court as well - on which even more powerful Obamites gave her her marching orders.
"I apparently also can't see when Republicans look like total assholes in the eyes of low informationvoters"?

Reminiscent of the health care "debates" in the house where the Dem committee chairmen shut down any input from Republicans.
By starting it out in a bipartisan committee, six bipartisan working groups that met a combined 72 times as well as 30 bipartisan hearings, allowing 161 Republican amendments into law?
I'd just like to point out that, for the million billionth time, garage has yelled "Squirrel!" and everybody is chasing it.
Cummings reminds me of my boys when they get in trouble. They throw little temper tantrums trying to deflect attention away from what they did wrong.
At least, that is how they behaved when they were 4 years old. Now they've grown out of that. One could wish the Democrats would too.
Could we please please have some (D)'s and (R)'s next to names? Some party affiliations?
I know it's obvious with Issa, but I had to look up Cumming's party affiliation.
Didn't you?
I'd just like to point out that, for the million billionth time, garage has yelled "Squirrel!" and everybody is chasing it.
James posted, I responded. Is that okay? Or maybe give me the rules so I know what they are.
I watched the whole thing, including Rep. Cummings attempt to make a political point.
Issa asked a series of questions of the witness, and she refused to answer any question, including one about whether or not her lawyer said she planned to testify. Chairman Issa ended the panel. The only incrimination that Lerner has to worry about is her proclamation of innocence during her opening statement 9 months ago being outright perjury.
Rep. Cummings was definitely bringing up talking points from the previous year that were just shown to be false through the evidence provided by the Chairman and Lois Lerner refusing to answer. To summarize Rep. Cummings, the internal IRS investigation shows that the only the Cincinnati office was doing bad things, Lois Lerner did nothing criminal, she was just a terrible and incompetent manager who didn't stop the Cincinnati office from doing bad things. (Seriously, listen to his speech, he throws Lois Lerner under the bus.)
Now, no disrespect for Rep. Cummings, but I'd trust an Inspector General in this current government about as much as I'd trust a dog in a butcher shop.
We've seen a lot of public meltdowns by Democrats recently.
Why is that?
Can't somebody find a counterexample of a Republican melting down for some balance -- please?
Why is that?
Democrats have seen the latest midterm polls. Expect to see even more desperation theater as we get closer to fall.
They convinced America that Ken Starr was a pervert. Just a matter of time until we see how sexist this questioning of Lois Lerner is. And, of course, the only possible explanation of Issa's turning off the mike is his profound racism.
I'm not sure this is actually bad optics for Republicans or Issa. Lots of people understand the kabuki theatre going on. Lots of people know Cummings is trying to protect the White House from being dragged down by Lerner spilling the beans.
Hey Crack - It is not unlike the raw naked power grab by Harry Reid in the Senate to limit the filibuster? Or is that okay because the Ds are in control of that chamber?
On the other hand, Issa isn't changing already existing rules here, he is just exercising his power as Chair of the Committee and ending the hearing.
The feigned outrage by the Ds is pretty pathetic.
@William
Crack has already floated that reply.
A white man dissed a black man! The horror!
The Ds are self-destructing a lot faster than the Rs and Obama and his merry band of idiots in the administration are doing it.
Look, it's all pretty simple, the Obama admin uses federal agencies to go after political opponents, it's the Chicago way.
Defenders of this policy like Cummings can screech all they want, it doesn't change the bottom line.
RecChief,
We could probably apply the doctrine to many different segments of American life. Let's try it out:

I was quite the street fighter as a kid.

But, I'll break my hands in the process and spend 6 months recovering.
That is Crack's story, true or internet fabrication. He's the one who's been pitching it.
Crack,
By your own admission, you've been making derogatory comments abot whites for 5 years. Why are you working so hard to prove you aren't a racist? You must have something to hide, it's up to Crack Emcee to show us all that he isn't a racist by providing us proof that he isn't. Anytime you are ready to provide that proof, I am sure we are all ears. But why haven't you provided proof of your innocence for so long? What other "hate crimes" are you guilty of? we already know you have a passionate hatred of white people.
GOP should just zero out the IRS budget.
Or, if they don't want to go that far, remove immunity from them for actions taken and zero out their conference budget.
Fine - my people didn't enslave yours
You enslaved each other.
MUCH better.
Listen garage, I've got a lot of sympathy for abandoned kids born to whores. It's an horrific fate.
I edited a biography of Charlie Manson almost 30 years ago, and learned just how severely that guy was abused from the moment he was born. Same story.
If you wanted to build a Charlie Manson, you'd be hard pressed to imagine a better scenario.
Happens to white guys, too.
Crack your concern trolling for a political that you claim to have once been a part of is touching.
Guess we will see what happens in November. I'm not making a prediction, the GOP is known as the Stupid Party after all, but I suspect that a big portion of the electorate is going to view Cummings' histrionics as a theatre play, and go back to worrying about what Obamacare is going to do to them in the future.
Women can't hold their liquor, women can't hold high up jobs. Women can't be held responsible cos they're wimmin.
Ain't feminism grand?
Burned the bras for what again?
So, which is the better solution, garage?
1. Take note of who and what really fucked you up in the most intimate ways and try to remedy that?
Or...
2. Rant and rave about huge systematic social evils that are entirely beyond your control?

Why are Republicans "determined to destroy themselves?"
Culture trumps politics, and the culture has shifted - but the conservatives haven't. They keep behaving like nothing's changed and it's going to bite them on the ass (as it has in all the last major elections) until they do so.
What are their "recent showings?" that so convince you?
Backing MItt Romney was where I broke with the party. A pseudoscience-spouting member of a racist cult for president? Yeah, THAT was going to work. He got 17% of the black vote.
My personal favorite is loudly proclaiming MLK was a Republican - when he was the one who told blacks to stop voting for the Party because it was racist. Along with all their lies about slavery, etc., THAT's another great example of the kind of historical deception (of themselves and attempting to do to others) they've bought into that will ultimately destroy them.
The line of Post-Trayvon black dead (what are we up to now? 10? 12?) and the excuses conservatives make for them.
Honestly, I can't think of ANYTHING conservatives are doing to help themselves right now - it's all bad - and they might as well get their KKK hoods and torches, and ride again, because the jig is up.
They're fooling no one,...
crack - you should be happy the GOP is 'destroying itself', since that means your blessed Dems get 100% power!

You are too damaged to do anything beyond that.

Crack. Too bad that you take those views. I suppose you find the Democrat offering of sweet words more palatible. They certainly sound pretty enough. So maybe that's the way to go, with ideas that have failed for fifty years and have done in a whole swath of society. But the promises are alluring to be sure and the sympathies are surely heartfelt. Those words have sure worked in winning the culture wars where it is now a given that the LGBT's are equally downtrodden, more downtrodden. Pretty words. Nice heartfelt sympathies. That seems the way to go.
As to KKK hoods and riding again, I think you greatly diminish the struggles of those who lived in those days and look foolish in the comparison.

Its a wonder that Crack works so hard to avoid providing proof that he isn't racist. You're in good company, Harry Reid hasn't proven that he isn't tied to the mafia either
"I just want the racists to be done with - blacks are tired of fucking with them and would actually like to know what life in America would be like without their say."
The racists will never be done with. Now that all the white racists have gone into hiding or are long since converted or dead, the black racists have taken over.
Eventually, the black racists will get their revenge. It might take a few more generations, but they'll make the white man pay in some manner or other. And then the white man will finally break free of his bondage and give an "I had a dream" speech and gain freedom from the tyranny of the black man.
And I suspect the white man will then turn racist, and try to dominate the black man once again, and the circle will continue, because mankind is stupid like that.
Guy without a pot to piss on continues to rant that he's got all the solutions.
It's not so much an aggravation, as it is downright pathetic.
Is there anything that can be done to get this guy to focus on his real problems?
Against stupidity and mental illness, we are helpless.
I quit! Better things to do than to argue with a fucked up, incompetent, mentally ill man who isn't ready to deal with the reality of what is fucking him up.

And here I thought I was correcting your historical ignorance.

Ahh, but you're an American - one of those "all men are created equal" liars.
You're guilty.
By that logic, you are guilty as well unless
a. You aren't an american, but I doubt that you aren't an American citizen.
b. You don't believe that all men are created equal?
So now you've admitted that you've antagonized and made derogatory comments for 5 years, AND you admit that you hold whites as unequal(lesser, which is plain to see from your comments)? My God man, you are admitting to all of us that you are a racist! Have you no shame?

Levity break: Crack lectures on Kolob Nuts in a chirbit
So, after voluminous postings by Crack, we're back where we started.
The problem here is that a white man dissed a black man! Quelle horreur!
We can't allow that!
I kind of like this debate style that I learned from Crack Emcee. All you have to do is act like any statement from your opponent is confirmation of your accusation; keep repeating it, and repeating it, and repeating it; never once actually think; repeat.
Now I need to figure out a catchy way to highlight this very complicated and nuanced idea.
Hey, I know, why don't I just do the thing that the leftists accuse conservatives of doing, boil it down to something that will fit on a bumper sticker! "Hope and Change" is taken, as is "War on Women", as well as "400 years of slavery!" and "capitalism sucks", "Occupy _________*" (*fill in your own truth here).
Anyone got any ideas? Kinda refreshing the freedom from thinking that following leftist methods allows. Did I mention that I am a Republican? Never mind that I don't hold any views that the GOP espouses though I am not sure the GOP believes its own rhetoric either.
Michael,
"As to KKK hoods and riding again, I think you greatly diminish the struggles of those who lived in those days and look foolish in the comparison."
Don't care. At the height of slavery, the vast majority of whites saw nothing wrong - I don't think observation is always white's strong suit, actually - so the idea blacks will take advice from those not already on-board is laughable.

Ahh, but you're an American - one of those "all men are created equal" liars.
You're guilty.
By that logic, you are guilty as well
Yes, RC, but racists aren't logical by definition.
You understand nothing.
That was yet another dumb shit, totally irrelevant post, Crack!
Do you have anything that is vaguely related to these hearings that you'd like to say?
Stick the slavery shit up your ass, pretender. You just look like a clown when you do that shit.
I've gotta do weights now, so I can't ridicule you for a while. Can somebody else sit in?
Crack,
Your posts are insanely stupid and irrelevant.
Like you.
"Don't care."
"racists aren't logical by definition."
I think you've made a real breakthrough into your personal truth if you accept it. Good luck to you.
In fact, your postings confirm every negative stereotype about black men.
It's hilarious!
You are a walking advertisement for the negative stereotypes of black men, Crack.
I would be hard pressed to imagine a fictional character who fit the description so perfectly.
"Your problem is that your father was absent and your mother was a whore."

"It's a wonder somebody hasn't kicked the living shit out of you by now. Or maybe they have. Or maybe you just talk like this on the internet."

Chances are someone has hit Shouty in the head a few times too many, probably his mother, clearly it's brain damage.
Cummings has the never to act outraged after he hears an upper level and highly paid govt employee take the fifth?!
Fuck him and anyone else who agrees with him.
And Crack, you think you know how "the voters" will react to this video? How about we wait and see what the voters do in November.
I'm sure that somewhere in this welter of comments, someone has already said that innocent people with nothing to hide assert their Fifth Amendment rights all the time. Tell me another one.
And Cummings? About the best thing I can say about him is that he is not the absolutely most odious Democrat out there -- but he is in the running for that title.
The line of Post-Trayvon black dead (what are we up to now? 10? 12?) and the excuses conservatives make for them.
I'm willing to bet that at least 5 times more White Americans have been killed by Black Americans since Trayvon was killed than Black Americans have been killed by White Americans.
By the way...Trayvon was killed by a Hispanic...remember?
I can't wait to see Rove get all verklempt all over, when the realization hits that his party lost...once again. Who were the ones here who were so sure Romney would win? LOL.
As long as they vote, and they vote against you, I don't care if all they know is their name and the phrase "Whitey Bad" they're alright with me.
Which makes you a racist asshole ....so does all a favor and fuck off.
I'll riase my hand. I wasn't sure tha tRomeny would win, but I thought he had a good shot at it. But back then I also thought it was a level playing field, and I no longer think that.
I had to work this morning so I am late to this party.
Well, well, I see we have another Crack thread. All Crack, all the time.
How in the world did a Lois Lerner/IRS thread turn into thread on race?
Easy, the now famous *cough* Crack surfaced.
Garage "Look, car thief".
Fine - my people didn't enslave yours - go for it,...
Actually...they did. Africans enslaved Europeans for hundreds of years, and this nation's first war was fought to free Americans enslaved by Africans.
"I'm willing to bet that at least 5 times more White Americans have been killed by Black Americans since Trayvon was killed than Black Americans have been killed by White Americans."
I'd be willing to bet you're wrong.
On the other hand, I'd be willing to be that at least 2 times more black american have been killed by other black americans since Trayvon was killed than black americans by white americans.
There's an important story here, but this isn't it.
Was Lerner really going to testify and changed her mind or was it all a smoke screen?
Is she angling for immunity or not?
Why doesn't Issa take her to court over the subpoena? (Can he do that, or do they have to hold her in contempt first? I don't know.)
Cummings is posturing, but he's not the only one. He just happens to be more long winded.
Politics ain't beanbag, that's for sure, Mr. Dooley.
The Crack Emcee
I just want the racists to be done with - blacks are tired of fucking with them and would actually like to know what life in America would be like without their say.
I can tell you.
Look at any African country that is run by blacks.
Thanks,

Wait, this goofy racist dope is all on the "Justice for Trayvon" bandwagon now??!
Hilarious.

Actually, we are still at zero.
But please continue with this epic meltdown.
"A pseudoscience-spouting member of a racist cult for president?"
And unfortunately, he won the election.
Gahrie and righties here are too stupid to understand that if Crack, as a Republican, feels this way and sees the Republican Party as being anti minority, the vast majority of minorities do so also. How is this going to get Republicans votes from the minority voters? Do they think they will win elections with white old men alone? 2016 will be an even greater shock to this bunch and we will get to say "We told you so".
Shutting down microphones and speech by duly elected Congressmen and women will not make them look better to independent voters. They look like bullies and tyrants, who are usually rejected by rational people.
Cummings is an accessory after the fact to IRS and, probably, Obama Administration crimes.
In 2011, 3,172 Whites were killed; 2,630 by other Whites, 448 by Blacks. 2,695 Blacks were killed; 2,447 by other Blacks and 193 by Whites.
Sure seems like white on Black violence is the biggest problem Blacks face today.....
"Federal employees should be required to provide full and complete information to Congress. Failure should mean dismissal for cause and full loss of benefits.
They are free to take the 5th to avoid prosecution, but we don't have to continue to employ them."
I'm sorry to interrupt crack's crazy rants but (just kidding) I agree with the above sentiment. Why is this not the present policy ?
OK, Crack, you can resume your virtual race war.
Thomas Sowell fears that a real one is coming and I am starting to believe him.
Crack said...Wow - not only don't you guys understand "optics", but you've got tin ears, too.
You guys are REALLY clueless about this stuff aren't you? You really think racists saying "I don't see anything wrong" is going to be the final word?
No wonder you can't win an election any longer
I don't recall Democrats being appalled by Joe Biden's disgraceful interrogation of Clarence Thomas back in 1991. Or by him saying of Obama in 2007: “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man”.
Funny about that. And funny how the "optics" never go against them.
84% of white are killed by whites. Quick! Somebody call Bill O'Reilly.
The IRS purchased large quantities of guns and ammo within the last year.
It may be that they plan to shoot their way out of trouble if the DOJ and FBI can't whitewash them out of it.
Or maybe they plan to shoot up those conservative organizations as the next phase in the course of harassment.
If not, who do they plan to shoot?
Meanwhile, in other Congress-y news, "The U.S. Senate narrowly defeated President Obama's nominee to oversee the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division due to Republican and law enforcement objections to the role he played in the defense of convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal."
"In a statement, Obama called the defeat of Debo Adegbile a "travesty based on wildly unfair character attacks against a good and qualified public servant.""

This white on white violence has gotten totally out of hand. The white community needs to clean up its act.
The line of Post-Trayvon black dead (what are we up to now? 10? 12?) and the excuses conservatives make for them.
There have been several Stand Your Ground type cases recently where the person shot was white or Hispanic and the shooter was black. And there hasn't been a media circus, because there hasn't been an "us" vs "them" angle to the story.
To gain some understanding of what is going on, look at how the people framing the story break things up into "us" and "them".
To Crack, "us" is African-Americans and "them" is everyone else. Because the Martin case involved his "us" being shot by "his" them, he's upset, but he doesn't care when "us" shoots "them". To many of us commenters on the right, Zimmerman and the other shooters were all "us" regardless of race and the criminals they shot were all "them"; "us" is law-abiding Americans, "them" is criminals".
To the 'Progressive Left' it would seem, "us" is the Democratic Elite in power, and "them" is the right. Abuses of government power that hurt "them" can be ignored.
The line of Post-Trayvon black dead (what are we up to now? 10? 12?) and the excuses conservatives make for them.
Says the "man" justifying black attacks/murders of whites...
Don't care. At the height of slavery, the vast majority of whites saw nothing wrong - I don't think observation is always white's strong suit, actually - so the idea blacks will take advice from those not already on-board is laughable.
Know who doesn't care about the evil of slavery?
Africans. Still engage in it.

Also, I wonder why so many Democrats are choosing now to retire rather than defend their obamacare vote? Perhaps they know something the Democrat party faithful do not.
Crack: Actually, no, your family would be especially diminished if you compared today with their predicament of fifty years ago. It is an insult to them and those who suffered to equate today with then.
I would add that using all capital letters to make a point no longer works. Perhaps in the early AOL chat room days the all-caps shout was effective in communicating urgency, distress or anger but today it generally serves as a marker of someone with a screw loose. I do not believe you have a loose screw but the continued use of the caps could indeed loosen one. Or more.
Cheers, brother.

Cummings was harassing conservative groups too, he is part of the IRS scandal, he too is a crook.

yeah all the righties. Does anyone on the left want to tell me how it is just racism? these 8 Democrats are secretly Republicans? Maybe it has something to do with putting a lawyer who defended a person who killed a cop, and seemlingly had no qualms about it, in charge of the Civil Rights Division? Or are you too blind to see that?
Cummings is a pig.
@dreams -
I agree with you, but Crack's rants have also proven my point that it gives the race card playing leftists a talking point.
@RecChief: I'm no Althouse hystorian, but my recollection is that Crack was reliably conservative on most matters except when it came to Romney. But so were lots of Conservatives. Crack was just louder. I remember him saying positive things about Palin back around 2008, and he was never part of nor abetted the Gaystapo, etc.

Continue with your giggles Ma'am, I'll remain a bemused observer of our descent into idiocracy.

Kinda like ramming through the ACA on a strictly partisan vote, in a secret smoke filled backroom, using a little known parliamentary procedure to bypass the normal super majority requirement...those kind of bullies and tyrants?
BTW, rational people did reject those bullies and tyrants.
Of course it will overshadow the Lerner story, because we live in a Democracy. A Congressman cannot turn of the mike of a fellow Congressman after he himself made comments and asked questions of Lernor after she once again invoked the 5th. Free speech is the First Amemndment, it doesn't look good for Congressmen to forget this, especially in a Congressional hearing.

I have to say, in a country where the most coercive department of the federal government admitted to targeting conservatives, I am more concerned with that fact than one representative being rude to another (who coincidentally) is trying to delegitimize the investigation)
Gee Professor, nice pool you got here, but I can't help but notice the Hippos.
If Crack were the boy who cried Wolf, that would imply that Romney won. When he cried Wolf, the Wolf got re-elected (so to speak), which means his track record on this ain't all bad. He might be barking up the right tree here too. It's all well and good to sneer at low-information voters, but if their numbers are enough then you'd better fear if not respect them.
It may be wrong - I think it is - but the media is in the tank for Democrats, especially those who are further to the left. If the GOP doesn't recognize this and avoid bad optics like the plague, the media will do for them today what they did for McCain and Romney before. To note this and to state, as Crack has, that this is a crying shame because the Stupid Party thereby sets itself up for a fall when the alternative is likely worse, is hardly taking up Inga's banner. She's glad to see the GOP crash, whereas Crack would seem to want a real alternative to the Democrats.
I referred earlier to my defense of the Constitution, gbarto.
What I think I hear you saying is that republicans, in order to win any more elections, simply need to become democrats.
God help me.
God help us.

Anything and anyone can be made to seem bad as long as those evaluating are never held to any standard of honesty. That's why complaints that Reps just deal with it are so disingenuous. They are dealing with it, by pointing out the "optics" are not true and those shaping the optics cannot be trusted.

Crack wants the Republican party to change its substance, specifically to go out of its way to pander to his group (which would imply out-pandering the Democrats) in order to deal with the problem of bad optics.
We can already see the media dying, partly as people recognize the partisan nature of the media, partially from unrelated economic changes. When it dies, the country will have an unrelated and unforeseeable set of new problems to replace the ones we have now.
If one of those problems is that the country has broken down into a set of Groups that only look out for "us", the country is as good as dead. Once "us" is no longer Americans as a whole, but designated groups to be pandered to, we're toast. Right now, for the most part, most Republicans have resisted the lure of identity group pandering (there are exceptions). Pandering would possibly benefit the party at the expense of the long term health of the country.
To make things worse for Crack's argument, looking at policy solely as game theory suggests that it would be too expensive to bribe African Americans as a group out of the Democratic Elite's grasp, as the African American group elites are members of the Democratic party. Better to pander to the less-entrenched Asians or Hispanics if you're buying votes with government money.

Probably the most ridiculous statement on this thread. Issa adjourned the meeting. Cummings had his mic turned off. Poor guy. The hearing was over.
Cummings can spout anything he wants, any time he wants. He could have stood on his chair shouted - just not on committee time as the meeting was adjourned. I suspect this commie pinko, flag burning, church taxing, LGBT loving, gun banning, lefty will be on every newscast decrying how he was silenced. See any irony here?

Sorry. If you want to make a rambling statement, then ask for the mic to make a rambling statement. Don't play bait and switch.
"Cummings can spout anything he wants, any time he wants. He could have stood on his chair shouted - just not on committee time as the meeting was adjourned."

Where was the procedural question.
And for the side that ended fillibusters because they felt like it, do they really want to be the side talking about shutting down debate? ReallY?
I love it - gbarto breaks my shit down, perfectly, and (as usual) some dumbs hit conservative has to step in and paraphrase it into evil garbage.

"We can already see the media dying, partly as people recognize the partisan nature of the media, partially from unrelated economic changes. When it dies, the country will have an unrelated and unforeseeable set of new problems to replace the ones we have now."
Give me a break.
"If one of those problems is that the country has broken down into a set of Groups that only look out for "us", the country is as good as dead."
That sounds like the Tea Party from here. And whites, historically.
"Once "us" is no longer Americans as a whole, but designated groups to be pandered to, we're toast."
But, rather than do ANYTHING to make blacks finally feel like Americans (reparations, apologies, setting our history straight - anything) whites would rather be like the folks on this thread, and fold their arms, screw up their faces, and demand everybody still do what they say because WHITE.
You'll never get a country that way - not after what whites have done. Nobody's just going to walk away from it. It's our families, not some abstract shit y'all's dealing with.
"Right now, for the most part, most Republicans have resisted the lure of identity group pandering (there are exceptions). Pandering would possibly benefit the party at the expense of the long term health of the country."
You're a moron. Don't you think blacks know when we're pandered to? Do you think that comes across as authentic?
All you're describing is digging the hole deeper.
What you have to do is come to grips with being wrong.
"To make things worse for Crack's argument, looking at policy solely as game theory suggests that it would be too expensive to bribe African Americans as a group out of the Democratic Elite's grasp, as the African American group elites are members of the Democratic party."
Ladies and Gentlemen, seriously, if you want to see what's wrong with the Right, watch this guy. It's like listening to a Nazi officer.
MLK said not to vote Republican until they rid themselves of racists in the party.
Rather than bribes, why don't you try that, smart guy?
"Better to pander to the less-entrenched Asians or Hispanics if you're buying votes with government money."
This type of thinking is a perfect example of, both, how the Republicans reached the political wilderness - and how they'll stay there.

Right, because whites did NOTHING to make Blacks feel like Americans. Integration and ending of Jim Crow is apparently nothing. Blacks got what they wanted, what more do they want? And how do you expect Whites to set the history straight other than by, I don't know, ending segregation and integrating black people. WHat you asked for has already been done.
Is this all about 40 acres and a mule? Is that what you want? Blacks to be farmers? If you want reparations then lets give Manhattan back to the Indians first. You think Deblasio would sign on for that?
This is only an issue for dumb voters. THe meeting was over. Despite the meeting being over Issa gave the floor to Cummings so that he could ask a procedural question.
He doesnt ask a procedural quesetion but instead wants to go on a harangue and scold republicans.
That's bad form. And yet, Crack wants to scold Issa on this?

The impetus behind Crack's appearance and takeover of this thread is:
A white man dissed a black man.
The left is not at all apologetic or concerned about the IRS attacks on the Tea Party.
"They had it coming because they are bigots," is what the left has to say.

Oh my! Thought this thread was supposed to be how Lois "Tight Lips" Lerner was taking the fifth like an old-school mobster in front of a congressional hearing and Cummings was acting like her mob-lawyer. Instead this is some kind of weird race war going on around here, the same super heated hysterics that resulted in Miss Ann shutting down the joint last year.
@Crack: seriously in spite of the Republican's self-destructive nature even they can't muck this one up unless they start running real live Klansmen for office.
A senior IRS official with ties to the White House taking the fifth repeatedly and claiming death threats if she talks and the Republican's have a tin- earn and bad optics?

Not only that Issa asks her about her own commentary which suggested she would cooperate, and also mentions that her lawyer gave the committee the suggestion that she would cooperate but that she needed a weeks time. And a week goes by and she's just as uncooperative as before and pleads the fifth. Why wouldn't Issa shut the meeting down at that point? What is she going to say other than pleading the fifth?

The Obama admin defense is that there is no IRS misconduct, and that any attempt to investigate is just another example of "racism."

So, if you wants facts, why are you so adamant about defending a witness who continues pleading the fifth.
Do you have that same standard when it comes to Chris Christie who has NOT plead the fifth?

Stopping at this point and we are back to the future with the Nixon Administration.
The rest is just noise. The racism accusations are getting more hysterical simply because the charge is losing it's totemic value and therefore has to be amped to overcome the tuning out effect. For every charge that X is against Obama because of his race the jujitsu is the only reason Y is for him is because of his race. The charge of racism should be kept for acts of real racism.
What isn't mentioned is whether or not Obama's policies and leadership characteristics would be acceptable to those who oppose him if he were white and those that support him so strongly would support the same policies and leadership character if he were white. To me, he sucks. Period, end of story as a leader because of his policies and leadership characteristics. If he was white I would be just as opposed.

I suspect because this Administration is morphing into an even more crooked, corrupt and certainly by far more incompetent re-boot of the Nixon Administration. It's no mean feat of accomplishment to have all of Nixon's vices and none of his virtues. In short JR this goes all the way to the top. I suspect that if the Republicans do well in the fall next year the Democrats are going to see a reprise of Watergate with the irony of having Obama be the Democrat's Nixon. All the same it won't end the same, Obama isn't going to resign and isn't going to be impeached and removed but will be reduced to even less than what he is now. After 40 years the Democrat's have it coming.
What isn't mentioned is whether or not Obama's policies and leadership characteristics would be acceptable to those who oppose him if he were white .....I would be just as opposed.
Personally I have always considered Obama to be as much a White man as a Black man, and definitely more of a White American man than a Black American Man.
Prior to his "career" in Chicago Obama had no idea what the life of the average Black American was like.
