Right after Bill Clinton was impeached, Hillary "sounded very up, almost jolly."

According to her closest friend Diane Blair, whose papers we're getting glimpses of this morning.
"Told me how she and Bill and Chelsea had been to church, to a Chinese restaurant, to a Shakespeare play, greeted everywhere with wild applause and cheers—this, she said is what drives their adversaries totally nuts, that they don’t bend, do not appear to be suffering."
That's likeable enough!

Yes, having no shame and being surrounded by adoring idiots is such a great thing.

And Chelsea gets a part in the show! What a great family.

Iowahawk may have found the explanation.

Baby Boomers were reaching peak earnings and dumping money into 401k's and the stock market was up. Peace dividend was in place while OBL plotted. Everything was great. So much so that some idiots think all we have to is elect Hillary and it all comes back. Good times, a blow job is not sex. Perjury is not a crime.

They're cargo-cultists. Vodkapundit recently brought that up again.

"That same month, he met with top U.S. military officials, diplomats, and aid workers advocating for military action against the Serbian forces of Slobodan Milosevic.

At the time, however, Hillary Clinton was not on board with the use of deadly force. According to Blair’s April 29, 1993 account, the First Lady said she “was very much against any intervention—had been killing each other for 900 yrs.”"

Too bad they didn't listen to Hilary. Unwittingly, Bill Clinton turned the US Air Force into a tool of Islamic jihad.

"...she said is what drives their adversaries totally nuts, that they don’t bend, do not appear to be suffering.""

I'm not sure that I agree with Althouse that this trait makes her more likeable, but it does speak to her political skills. Watching the Clintons weather Bill's obvious malfeasance convinced me that the best way to weather a political storm is to never apologize. By those standards, Chris Christie made a serious mistake by apologizing in the very degrading manner he did.

Her defense of Bill's fooling around with Monica is weak. As is her trashing of Monica. Reading this, it's no surprise Obama took her out in 2008. He is a lot smarter and more ruthless than the Clintons, especially Hillary. Obama will take them out again before 2016.

I was feeling pretty jolly when Clinton was impeached, too iirc.

@mccullough I think you're giving Obama too much credit.

SOJO,

Obama's not much of a president, but he's an excellent political strategist and knows how to exploit the strengths and weaknesses of his allies and opponents. He's like Nixon without the paranoia and self pity. Nixon would have been a worthy opponent for Obama.

I'm sick of her already. I wonder if Bill ever regretted not having a more traditional type political wife? One that turned a blind eye to his affairs and didn't feel the need to help pick judicial nominees or reform healthcare.

Maybe Hillary felt Bill owed her for all the years she put up with his philandering, but why does the American public owe her the presidency?

"He's like Nixon without the paranoia and self-pity"... Who, Obama? He's the epitome of self-pity and paranoia. From whining about how hard it is to be president, to complaining about FOX News, to blaming congress and GOP for his failings. Nixon was a stand-up guy compared to the weakling in the white house now.

It makes me physically ill to think these amoral and dysfunctional people were at the pinnacle of power in this country, and may be again.

mccullough বলেছেন...

M. Fitz,

Obama's complaints are an act. A successful one in 2012's election. He complains about Fox News and Republicans on a Fox News show. That's pretty clever. Now the Fox people are complaining, again. Win-win for both sides. Now back to the golf course.

"[It] drives their adversaries totally nuts, that they don’t bend, do not appear to be suffering."

One of he political upsides of amorality.

Michael Fitzgerald বলেছেন...

I don't know if it's an act, Mac. Remember Obama shooting baskets with elementary school students? Misses 20 in a row, blames the ball, the basket, and the kids...

There are a few tidbits in these thoroughly culled "papers" -- Janet Reno found Hillary to be a mask; Hillary argued for nose-rubbing vengeance against a newspaper owner by nixing his friend for a SCT nomination. But mostly they sound like the reflections of an HRC sycophant.

Wonder what was behind including the "Tomorrow is Thursday" note by Bill? (P. 37). It's so stilted and affected and, if written to Hillary, super-syco.

This is sure to come up endlessly should Hillary run or be nominated, but I do not understand why I am supposed to consider Bill Clinton's infidelity when considering Hillary Clinton for a job.

I think some Republicans tell me it's because their marriage was preserved for reasons other than sincere romantic love, or at least at the time. That's none of my business, and she was the first lady. With a daughter. Good reasons to preserve a marriage if possible.

Plenty of Republican leaders are not ideal spouses either. In fact, I would submit that 100% of presidential candidates now have their priorities and values out of whack to put their families through hell just for a chance at power.

Bill cheating meant he was a dishonest man, but it doesn't really say anything important about Hillary. I don't think there was anything she could do about Bill aside from ending the marriage, and I just don't see how we're supposed to say her ending her marriage was some kind of duty she failed at.

Obama's not much of a president, but Valerie Jarrett is an excellent political strategist and knows how to exploit the strengths and weaknesses of his allies and opponents.

FIFY.

@Dustin

War on Women. Of course, the war is long over. It ended when women surrendered to Clinton and a goodly portion collaborated, sending their sisters in the resistance to re-education camp.

clarice বলেছেন...

Indee, she never looked better. I think it's part of the dynamic of their marriage--a power struggle in which at that point she clearly had the upper hand.

Hillary stayed with a repeatedly faithless husband.

If she's President and another country repeatedly breaks its agreements with us, will she stick by them over and over again?
