"Go forth and suck, Badgers."

Because "the first version of every big project is 'janky.'"
[Reddit co-founder Alexis] Ohanian, who had planned to become a lawyer, had an “epiphany” his sophomore year in college, after ditching studying for the LSAT to go to a Waffle House.

“I realized, I wanted these waffles more than the LSAT,” Ohanian said. “So I probably shouldn’t be a lawyer.”
Can't I just eat my waffles... and be a billionaire... through janky suckage?

Go forth and suck, Badgers.

The first time I read that, I missed the comma. Kinda gave it a different tone.

1. Yes, when just the entry testing to a profession becomes onerous, it's time to bail. From personal experience, I can sympathize with that.

2. re "Janky": Yes, true, and this is the motivation behind driving hard through version 1.0. It's the idea that you have to "move fast and break things" just to make sure your product is out there and can find its niche before someone else beats you to it. I admit, I'm not sure I like recklessness as a business model, and I don't think it's sustainable, but it seems to have worked out fine for some companies out there. Facebook's earliest iteration was certainly "janky", as was Twitter's, yet both of them are a large part of the landscape now.

See, I always understood janky to mean "niche," not "broken." In Magic a janky card is one with a very narrow niche, as opposed to a junk card which is just garbage. 99% of the time, the janky card is junk, but because it is unique, it has uses. Apparently, though, I've been using it wrong all these years.

Fear of failure is the underlying cause of a lot of mediocrity.

"Both Patel and Ohanian emphasized the potential for millennials to change the world using the Internet as a platform."

I count four clichés in one sentence.

A desire to "change the world" is so adolescent. How? Why? To what end? Ultimately it doesn't matter. The fact that you change the world is all that matters, because it's all about you, and it makes you important.

Wait, this isn't about the NCAA basketball tournament?

we're gonna change it… rearrange it… we're gonna change the world…

Since this post is related to business I thought I would draw your attention to the fact that NetFlix has decided to PAY Comcast to ensure that its downloads are done with speed. Many of us said that would be the case and here it is. The wonders of the market!!!

Ohanian's 'suck' idea is a riff on a recurring theme amongst creator class: a recognition that what you ultimately create will look nothing like what you envisioned at onset. So common is this theme few venture backers are interested in a business plan anymore. They're viewed as a waste of time and a bit naive.

So just go ahead and build that janky thang.

The janky thing you complete is better than the unfinished, but perfect, thing. You can edit a janky page but not a blank one.

He was studying for the LSAT as a college sophomore?

Bullshit.

While we're on the topic: As disgusting as sucking a badger would be, it's gotta be a lot less painful than sucking a porcupine. :-S
