"After nearly 20 months of buildup, the misdemeanor trial of Kerry Kennedy ended on Friday in a breakneck blur, as jurors took one hour to find her not guilty of driving under the influence of a drug."
Here's my post from 4 days ago where I said: "I bet she wins."

America has the best legal system money can buy. Had she been Kerry Jones or even worse, Kerrisha Jones, she would've been convicted.
Although there are 2,500 cases brought every year in Westchester County for driving under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, they are typically bargained down to a noncriminal violation requiring a guilty plea and a fine.
Really? Drunk driving?
I've never understood just how the Kennedys became the de facto American royal family. I mean, there are plenty of other wealthy and powerful political dynasties, but none of them seem to have the same cachet.
"And as people filed out of the courtroom, Ms. Kennedy said she bore no ill will to the prosecutors who brought the case."
Oh, I'll be that prosecutor will have an IRS audit before the snow flies next fall.
She is related to Ted so the case was a waste of prosecutorial time.
John Derbyshire wrote a book about this .
Hey, I thought I was drinking a bottle of water, but I drank the bottle of whiskey. They both start with 'W', so it's easy to confuse the two.
Give credit where credit is due. A good Attorney and a Jury whose verdict spoke the truth equals victory for a wrongly charged innocent woman.
Good call Professor.
And as people filed out of the courtroom, Ms. Kennedy said she bore no ill will to the prosecutors who brought the case.
"To tell you the truth, anger is the last feeling I have right now," she said. "I'm full of gratitude."
Are you fucking kidding me?
Yes, indeed, those prosecutors had some nerve going after a Kennedy.
Did the accident happen anywhere near the vicinity of a creek?
Time for her to retreat back into her vast carelessness
Her testimony on the stand was over the top hilarious. In the first 10 minute she mentioned her "Daddy" and that he was killed when she was 8 while running for President.
The only thing she didn't mention was that she's the ex-wife of the governor.
The jury was in her thrall; there was no way they were going to convict her.
Credit where it's due. You nailed it Althouse.
Is this another case of "Not guilty by reason of being a Kennedy"?
Why can't these toads just crawl under a rock and squander their riches and lives out of the public view.
The last Kennedy with any sense of decency was Joe Kennedy's grandfather. But even PJ and Joe earned their money. (Running a bar/likker distribution and for Joe Movies, stocks and other enterprises)
After that, the JFK/RFK/EFK and all their kin and spawn have just been hemorrhoids on the public ass.
America would have been better off if the original Patrick had stayed in Ireland.
John Henry
Thank G-d, my Kerry was acquitted, I will finally be able to get some sleep!!!! Now if only the Beyoncé-Obama rumors prove to be true--then and only then, will my life be complete!!!!!
Obama is G-d!!!!!
The Kennedy's did not get made aristocracy until JFK died. And then many felt that he had earned that posthumous honor. I am one.
JFK was a courageous man. He maneuvered his way through the Japanese Navy, Khruschev's Nuclear Russia, Joe's Mafia ties, LBJ's political machine, and brother Bobby's ambitions, and he beat them all until his enemies finally gave up and had him shot down.
"he beat them all until his enemies finally gave up and had him shot down."
You left out Marilyn's pussy.
A Kennedy in a courtroom in an incadescent blue Northeastern state. Not like your "I bet she wins" was a courageous, against all odds, prediction.
re: As I predicted....oooooo psychic powers. Do you give readings?
I'll give credit as well, but really isn't this akin to looking outside during a rainstorm and predicting it's going to rain?
At least the jurors had the pleasure of basking in the glow of a real, live Kennedy! They couldn't stay in deliberations too long. They had to quickly get back for the fix of that drug!
Wait, so driving under the influence is only a crime if you know you are doing it? Isn't there a point that you are so shit-faced drunk you have no idea what you are doing? Shouldn't there be a DUI blood alcohol range then? From say 0.08 to 0.30? Anything above that and there is no way to know if you knew you were drunk or driving or even on earth.
She and Cuomo had an acrimonious divorce. I don't think he would have gone far out of his way to suppress her prosecution. Maybe the opposite......I think Kerry Kennedy is right about being judged differently because she's a Kennedy. I don't think she would ever complain about the perks and privileges that her position brought her though.
"Witnesses say you started drinking at the bar at 9pm. Is that true?"
"I have no recollection of anything prior to 8pm that day."
"Your Honor, clearly my client could not have know he was driving drunk. I move for a dismissal!"
I've never understood just how the Kennedys became the de facto American royal family. I mean, there are plenty of other wealthy and powerful political dynasties, but none of them seem to have the same cachet.
Really? Television. Specifically, color television.
I don' t think any ordinary citizen would take on the risk, hassle, and expense of a jury trial versus a plea deal. That's where the unfairness lies: it's not that so many innocent people get convicted but that so many of the guilty and wealthy walk free.

Driving While Kennedy.
"Here's my post from 4 days ago where I said: "I bet she wins.""
Wasn't I once told it was bad form to tally 'em up like that?
If not, I've got to start over,...
Ah, the Kennedy defense wins again.
People respect our laws for what reason, exactly?
I like a system where people don't get punished for honest mistakes.
I don't like a system where I'm fairly confident I would get punished given the exact same goddamn facts.
Not a credit to the American system of justice.
A regular Nostradamus you are!
If a dead blonde and a blue dotted rape victim weren't enough to get a Kennedy convicted, an ambien pill sure wouldn't be able to do it.
The way they use their dead father as an excuse is disgusting. Her brother Doug did the same when he got aggressive with nurses after his first child was born. Basically, his excuse was I get to be a dick to people because my dad was murdered. Bobby n Ethel's kids are entitled a-holes.
I hope they wouldn't buy this defense if she had actually killed someone.
In the long run, I wouldn't say she 'won' here. Just bought herself a cheap court victory.
Don't know why she was acquited, but I'm sure it has something to do with racism.
Because all you white people are racists.
And stupid.
I can see where she took the sleeping pill (mistakenly) after drinking a cappuccino and eating carrots, so the effect of the sleeping pill was delayed. When the drug took effect she suddenly fell asleep at the wheel instead of her bed. She looks like a pretty hyper person, otherwise why would she regularly take sleep medication?
The prosecutor argued that she should have been aware of getting drowsy and pulled over. How many people remain conscious at the moment they fall asleep?
Every jury trial victory is a skilled work of lawyer's communication art. The State is always 90% to victory after theDA's opening accusations. What did she do to hurt anyone anyway.
This kind of work is intense one on one winner take all. It leads to lawyer PTSD and alcohol use to come back down.
And you who philosiphize digrace
and criticize all fears
Bury the rag deep in your face
because now is the time for your tears
