What's Wonkblog without Ezra? And what's Ezra without Wonkblog?

Ezra Klein asked for more than The Washington Post was willing to give him. And now he'll take his name, but WaPo keeps Wonkblog, where Klein wrote with the assistance of 8 staffers, and had 4 million page views a month.

Previous discussion here on the Althouse blog: "Does Ezra Klein really have a following, the way Nate Silver had a following?" (January 3, 2014).

Klein is a recent UCLA grad with no expertise that I know of. A BA in PolySci is no credential. His mirroring the opinions of the naive left is his claim to fame.

Here s his claim to fame.

"stating that Senator Joe Lieberman was "willing to cause the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in order to settle an old electoral score"

Obamacare has certainly improved his credentials, what ?

Klein is just so 2010.He is OLD.

He has ambition so will likely be fine. He will find a lefty to fund something for a while and if it doesn't work he will be the better for it. Can then resume working for a "newspaper." Not much of a following I would guess.

I'm sure that there is some deep pocketed leftist out there who fund this young man's "Explanatory Journalism (??!!)" effort.

Funniest thing I read about this was that Bezos, by declining to fund Klein's idea, confirmed to leftists that he (Bezos) is really truly a capitalist (file under DUH! No Shit). Laughed for several minutes over that. Can't remember who wrote it though.

Better than Ezra....it's the name of a band and a description of every other political blogger out there.

I know that "explanatory journalism" is a term of art in journalistic circles. It's also a term that increases my skepticism about people who call themselves "journalists."

I'm sure this will allow him to be even more supportive of the Obama administration.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Meade and three dogs are getting ready to oust Althouse and keeping the blogs name and viewers?

One wonders just how long dog pics will satisfy her highbrow followers.

Meade would have to do a quick A&E like reversal before Roger Ailes steps in and hires the Professor to replace Dana Perino on The Five.

More Ezra Levant, less Ezra Klein.

They ought to consider former Packer great Ezra Johnson.

Ezra Klein has connection. He is loved by Democrats. POTUS Obama reads him. Left Bloggers love him. Plus his SO at NYT. AND Ezra has the LIST ---

-- JournOlist

Just support him or he will destroy you.

EIGHT STAFFERS?!

Explanatory journalism = the new yellow journalism of the previous century. It would have ended up being the web version of MSNBC.

Klein does not compare favorably to Nate Silver, because Silver has more to offer the objective reader. Klein's brand is becoming even more defined and well known, thereby it will be no secret to anyone that there will be no objective journalism at all.

Ride the progressive tide in, then try and cling onto something like a huge policy issue or Obama or the journo-tech-knowledge thing, instead of riding it on out.

I imagine what's really going on is that the Post wanted Ezra to support Hillary, rather than the sort of progressive he would want in 2016.

Ezra, in a rather brilliant move, responded by asking for a whole lot more money.

Now he's been moved aside, in much the same way that Fox moved Glenn Beck aside to clear the way for Mitt Romney.

That's also the reason the NYT parted ways with Nate Silver. They realized the poll numbers were about to start looking bad for the Democrats, and to have to read that from Nate Silver would just have been too demoralizing.

The same day Ezra leaves the Post, Eugene Volokh joins it?

"Funniest thing I read about this was that Bezos, by declining to fund Klein's idea, confirmed to leftists that he (Bezos) is really truly a capitalist (file under DUH! No Shit)."

A capitalist is someone who uses capital to produce products which can be sold to produce profits. Bezos uses capital (other people's) to produce a cash flow, from which he skims a small fraction. He does not need any help from Ezra Klein.

I wouldn't count Klein out just yet. A lot of the media business is networking, and he seems to be very good at joining and getting other people to join groups.

He never seemed like much of a wonk to me, but it's not like Ariana Huffington is some intellectual beacon, either.

Revenant বলেছেন...

Jupiter, a capitalist is someone who invests capital in a profit-making enterprise. Bezos fits the definition exactly.

Also, even if one were inclined to use your personal definition, Bezos would still qualify, since Amazon and its subsidiaries now manufacture goods as well as distributing.

Never saw Ezra and Pajama Boy in the same picture. Hmmmm.

mccullough বলেছেন...

Good to see that Klein is a capitalist.

I always thought the blog name was more clever than the blogger in this case. Maybe one of his left-behind peons can make something of the name for a change. Presumably anyone smart enough to not follow him to Hello, Ezra or whatever they end up calling the new publication.

Check the calendar to make sure it’s not April 1st.

Look suspiciously at the empty glass by my computer and wonder if what I drank last night has been known to cause hallucinations.

Go to Leonard Nimoy’s Wikipedia page and see if he’s sporting a goatee.

Make sure dogs and cats aren’t living together.
