Pettings (and bloggings).
And back to work (you can see I'm reading about Andrew Cuomo… in the upper right corner… working on this post):
AND: There was so much talk about the black hat in the earlier café post, that I thought I'd put up this one up too, despite the dog-nose smudge on the camera lens (at my right elbow):
You can see that I'm wearing the hat (and hence why I keep the hat nearby). I love the view out the windows, but the bright light can make it hard to read the screen sometimes. The hat brim helps.

Pettibloggery on a Law Blog. I love it.
Perhaps I missed it in a previous "Dog" thread, but do you borrow or own the dogs which appear here?
@Will
We own no dogs, but borrow the dogs of neighbors.
Meade often takes them out to the dog park.
Don't worry, Althouse.
Be happy.
We played this tune, Dawgz style, at a recent gig and the audience loved it. So out of character for us.
Office politics don't matter much to me any more. Every once in a while I get pissed off just for old time's sake.
God gave me an incredible life.
Hope you're enjoying life.
John Derbyshire covered this in his podcast. Have you heard it as of yet?

Althouse floors are too sparkly to tolerate an unhousebroken pup.
Take a house of old carpets instead with baggies and helpings of Simple Solution and a complete after-pup cleanup takes mere seconds, by contrast.
Althouse doesn't own all those labs?...I'm disappointed and disillusioned. Then again, she always seemed more of a cat person.
"Then again, she always seemed more of a cat person."
Why?
I just don't have pets. I don't feel a need or a desire for pets.
Less is more in my book.
Better than nothing is a high standard.
'Cat person' makes me think of 'Cat People'. 1982, Nastassja Kinski, pert breasts. I try not to think of Klaus Kinski's pert breasts: that boat shouldn't have gone over the mountain for a reason.
Willem Dafoe is the Klaus Kinski of today; today's Nastassja Kinski is Jessica Alba.
Help me out here, America.
Spah-TOO-Lay.
I'm more of an Aguirre person.

The Chocolate's a dead ringer for ours!
That is no arrow. We just imagine the arrows because we fear them.
In the early hours of 18 May 1980, Curtis hanged himself in the kitchen of his house at 77 Barton Street, Macclesfield. He had just viewed Werner Herzog's film Stroszek and listened to Iggy Pop's The Idiot.
Wiki:
Parts of the movie were shot in Nekoosa and in a truck stop in Madison, Wisconsin. Other parts of the film were shot in Plainfield, Wisconsin. Herzog had planned to meet documentary filmmaker Errol Morris in Plainfield to dig up serial killer Ed Gein's mother's grave, but Morris never showed.
Awake in the middle of the night, fixated on Herzog. In the end there is only a chicken.

Dogs can be an interest through an interest in language. They talk all the time with postures and positions, if you react consistently.
You arrange a language in a year.
As far as actual words and phrases, I wrote down on a napkin all the words in phrases my first Doberman Susie knew in context and got 200.
Be consistent with the phrases, and about things the dog has an interest in, for example a toy you both play with can have a specific name.
The "get your wooden spoon" has meaning and interest, provided you then interact with it after she gets it so as to make good on the promise of meaning.
Dogs pick up huge amounts of capability.
Like English, words come only through some interest in what they represent. We don't name a color grue that's green before year 2000 and blue thereafter, unless we're philosophers stuck on a logic puzzle. Logic refers without interest. How do you know it's green before 2000? It might be grue.
Dogs don't respond to that.
A cynic is somebody doubtful of things a dog can't believe.
Language doesn't develop quickly in puppies, who are more idea-and-go random things blessed only with cuteness.
Old dogs, children and watermelon wine.
