Peace on. earth, and good will towards men/women.
This is not the night for Christophopia.

Merry Christmas Ann from a former Christmas disliker to a current one.

Awful music - awful way to view the Peace On Earth meme.

But Merry Christmas anyway!

I'm not sure if this is a cafe post.

We just returned from "Saving Mr. Banks". A story about the making of "Mary Poppins". I recommend it highly.

Merry Christmas!

Somebody called me a fabricator. Not going there.

No fights at our house! Probably because the kids are young, and spent all day blissed out in Legoland....

But growing up, I remember giant, family-wide meltdowns on Christmas afternoon.

Maybe we'll have those once the kids move out and Christmas dinner becomes a time for the airing of grievances instead of a time to eat food...

(Meanwhile, I'm up at this insane hour with a feverish, sinus-y toddler. And Althouse makes the Bubble Guppies go down a bit easier!

Okay, I hoard some fabrics. But she still isn't right.

Had a roaring fire in the fireplace all day yesterday so the Mother-in-Law would have a toasty place to sit. Made a dent in the woodpile out back. A cord usually lasts me several years though.

Now I'm in to work early, and it's dead here. Should be a productive day, then.

While it may be an entertaining movie in its own right, you should know that much of it is total BS, and misrepresents the character and personality of P.L. Travers, who was quite bohemian, a bisexual, a student of Gurdjieff, and who had lived in many and varied situations, including, for a couple of summers, among the Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo Indians. She also studied Zen mysticism in Japan.

She disliked the Disney film of Mary Poppins, (and had only relented to allow him to make the movie due to her own financial duress), and she refused to allow any sequels.

The movie did not paint her to be any kind of angel.

Besides, all women are bi-sexual. You buy them something, and they get sexual. Maybe it's different at your house....

We stopped at Atlantic City last night and it was teeming with heathens - no fights though.

That's not the point. My understanding is the movie paints her as being an uptight, provincial, humorless prig. Her life belies that characterization.

The truth is, she did not want her character to become "Disneyfied." There's nothing wrong with that and one needn't be a humorless prig to find that prospect horrifying. (I say this while acknowledging that Disney Studio has made quite a few wonderful films.)
