Next time you come to Texas, get out of Austin and see some of the nice parts of Texas. I spent 11 years in Austin (1958 - 1969), but I would sooner visit a garbage dump now. It was a great place then, but it is not by accident that they call Austin "weird" today.

Althouse. You hardly learn about how the rest of the country works if all you do is go from college town to college town. Tends to reinforce your prejudices.

@Rusty We were visiting family.
One of the hayseeds up here in the northern PA woods had a garage sale over the summer. The sign read "Groj Sale".
I think "Hayseed" might be one of those words that locate you pretty directly. I haven't heard it since I lived right on the NY Penn border.
