I'd take the afterlife Hitch describes, and I consider myself sentient and possessed of humanity.

Delightful.

From my own study of the Bible I'm not sure God is offering us the choice Hitchens describes - eternal conscious existence whether we want it or not. My take is that the choice God has placed before us is eternal conscious existence in some form vs. eternal unconscious non-existence.

I shall begin work on a Christopher Hitchens impression for future chirbits.

I don't especially want to hang on for all eternity. I've pretty much had my fill of all this crap. However,I would like an afterlife of a hundred years or so just so I could see how the hash settles. Also, I'd like a Judgment Day. I'm somewhat despicable, but I've seen worse. I'd like a professional evaluation on the quality of my moral character. It's like taking an exam and not being told your grade.

Hitchens did go off on other rants during his career besides religion, H. Kissinger comes immediately to mind but, the quality of his writing and thought was second to none.

Ah yes, the essence of liberal 'wit': stupid people mocking Christians.

If you really want to entertain me with comedy and wit - try doing that to moslems.

I wonder if when Hitchens was calling a man much greater than himself a lizard and not human he had considered Reagan in the afterlife in the sense Reagan was ever a life, a person, to begin with?

Or was Reagan always a lizard to Hitchens?

Hitchens was right about dehumanizing your POTUS, it can be fun if not a little too zany. It is winning strategy to get the proles talking and God bless Hitchens for that.

I happily voted for Reagan twice, but there is NO way that Reagan is "a man much greater than [Hitchens]". Reagan was great, and Hitchens was, and is thru his writings, a treasure. I would dearly love to hear Hitchens opine now on Obama.

OK, fine. He's proffering an argument. Too bad it's one that's routinely demolished in first-year undergraduate philosophy or theology courses, and not worthy of any response more forceful than a dismissive snort of "proof by assertion—bullshit!"

Seems to me he is using the same 'assertion' method that religion uses to assert its dogma, no?

Sail on, Hitch.

Hitchens is a perfect example of the old adage that:

"No one's ever gone broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people".

That this phony English boozer - too dumb too make in England - should be considered, in the USA, a big wit and intellectual proves the adage.
