The floor project, end of Day 4.
Today, the last of the wood went in around that tricky descent onto the spiral staircase. Then, lots of sanding and vacuuming, and this is the sealer coat going on. After that, coat of poly, then sanding, dust removal, and a final coat. Tomorrow's the last day. Tonight's the night for escaping from the fumes.

Pretty.

Looks great.
Answering the question from Part III: The walls should be painted "wheat."
It looks like Ms. Althouse is trying to get in on the 'ballroom dancing lessons' scam.
Good luck!
We went through the exact same steps last year for our staircase, landings and traffic area. I'm so impressed that you are doing this yourselves! It looks like you are doing a first rate job. A year from now after living with it, you are going to be so happy for having done it.
We're not doing this ourselves. We've hired professionals and are very impressed with the workmanship.
Sorry, I thought Meade was doing the heavy lifting. Nonetheless, my comment stands. A well-done job will make you happier day by day!
Beautiful. Can't wait to see the final result!
How many times have you said you've hired professionals? (laugh)
It looks absolutely gorgeous. Wow.
Now you and Meade need to take tap lessons to test how durable the sealer is. Or just report back when the first mar occurs. Kinda like the first scrape/dent on a new car. Heartbreaking!
Waiting for the results.. good luck
Two coats are not enough with dogs and their claws visiting regularly.
The room is considerably more dramatic than the view - sunlight the exterior's best contribution. So I'd focus even more on the interior. It's almost a showplace; add some flare, possibly a line or two of bold pin-stripping, or maybe cubist. Shades blending into hues... clean, simple. Color!
Put some lines down and make it a first class basketball, handball, etc court.
I like how people just assume you did this yourself. That's not a bad thing but it is interesting that more than few have made this assumption. Maybe it is their perception of the two of you or maybe its just in general. Obviously the people that read your blog have no idea what it takes to get a professional result when installing a hardwood floor.
At least you could get credit for putting the lines on the court all by yourself.
