"I would like to take a moment to acknowledge your hurt, as well as the letter you sent to me via your attorneys."

"As a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain that your family has had to endure," writes Lil Wayne to the family of 1955 murder victim Emmett Till, whose attorneys corresponded with him over his lyric "Beat that p***y up like Emmett Till." The linked article stresses that Lil Wayne did not, technically, apologize. I'm drawn to the words "the letter you sent to me via your attorneys" and just guess that any standoffishness has to do with the use of lawyers as the way to start a conversation with somebody.

"I cannot begin to imagine the pain you've been through, which explains why I was such a douchebag. If only I had a bit more empathy, all of this could've been avoided."

Yeah, especially since that letter he wrote back sounds like it was written/ghosted by an attorney.

It's probably actually two opposing counsel corresponding with each other.
Meow.

Yeah, if you want an actual apology, hiring an attorney is the one of the worst possible ways to get it.

Why anyone would give this rancid little demon any regular cred or any street cred is mystifying. He should be ground into hamburger and fed to lions.

I'm sure the Demos will be appropriating money to the Rap Hall of Fame to keep this valuable sub-culture alive.

" use of lawyers as the way to start a conversation with somebody."

Isn't that how we always do it here? I don't mind if it's not on that letterhead with all the extra letters after the names.

Bob Dylan even wrote a song about it: 'The Death of Emmett Till.'

I just want to point to the letters sent to Althouse via the Internet.

That's it.

Some older black folks love rappers like lil Wayne representing them in the culture at large.

They LOVE it.

"Bob Dylan even wrote a song about it: 'The Death of Emmett Till.'"

I thought that line was idiotic.

Welcome to a generation who can't recall, or understand, any of the civil rights horrors of the 40's, 50's and 60's.

"Who is Little Wayne?"

Ahem, it's "Lil Wayne."
He's Lil Poopy's lil bro.

It's likely that the only reason that he is aware that he's a father is due to the lawsuit that was likely filed.

It was almost 60 years ago. Time to stop insisting "too soon."

Li'l Wayne is black and not a conservative. There is no need for him to apologize.

When it becomes important to assuage the Mountain Dew corporate-sponsor crew, a momentary "acknowledgement" becomes most opportune.

If you point at vile lyrics like these and ask if they indicate a degraded culture that might have some causal relation to such problems as fatherless children, urban violence and crime, well, You Must Be A Racist.

" use of lawyers as the way to start a conversation with somebody."

Few situations are improved once lawyers are involved.
