Up for 2 hours... still waiting for the sunrise.

We would always be up for surfing the early morning because of the favorable offshore winds. We would call it either "dawn patrol" or, being from an eastern coast, a "sunrise session". And there's nothing quite like a cup of coffee on the stern of a sailboat sitting in a nice cove somewhere at anchor just as you drop into the water to paddle over to the reef pass. Wish I was doing that now..

Yes, I really enjoy getting up at 5:30 or 6:00 a.m. I brew a big pot of coffee, watch the sun come up over the mountains and surf the web. Change guitar strings while I'm surfing, too.

I'll have to take a nap in the early afternoon or I won't have the energy for the gig tonight.

Early morning is improved a lot by the web, and the dog wants to get up anyway.

The sun is less interesting in the winter though, rising in the SE and moving a short distance to the SW to set.

Interesting geometrical fact: in Sydney Australia (sunrise pic looking southeast) the sun rises in the SE also in our winter, but their sun then heads northward rather than southward, giving their long summer days.

@Shouting Thomas - Located the Ukelele stings I purchased for my own Xmas prez last night. Maybe I'll look for the classical guitar pick up and see about installing that too...

@Shouting Thomas - You still play gigs?! I liked the happy hour gigs where you're home by 10-ish. At 2am I was exhausted and always leaving something behind during the last stupid check on our way out. But then I'm probably older than you.

Shouting Thomas म्हणाले...

No, Surfed, you're probably not older than me.

We rarely do late gigs, but New Year's Eve is an exception.

Got to work as the sun was coming up. Didn't sleep but four or five hours last night, having stayed up late watching the game.

Hail to the Redskins! Hail to Alfred Morris! Yes, I'm getting it out of my system...

I used to hate mornings but have grudgingly become a morning person mainly because of our children. Getting up before them is the only time of day when I can have the house to myself.

My AllenS and I have had this conversation about mornings--A sunrise in the morning is proof positive we have made it through another day and have one more to look forward.

A corollary to the celebration of morning, is how many cat fights emerge on comment threads in the evening--Do not commenters have nothing to do in the evenings but hurl invective at each other? especially on weekend nights! Oh well, different strokes.

Me personally, I have always found the world looks better in the morning than it did the night before.

In the Caribbean, we love them; at home, I just have to get Quantum and Sherlock out the door and Quasy gets Breakfast With Dad.

Edutcher--amen to sunrise in the tropics--nothing more spectacular than watch the sun come up over water--I spend a couple of weeks a year on Lubbers Quarter Cay in the Bahamas, and there is nothing finer than watching the sun come up--But you cant dally because it comes up really fast in the tropics.

Professor and others: I would be interested in knowing when you go to bed. My brother has risen at 4:00 AM for years so he can pray and read the Bible while it is quiet. But he isn't worth squat after 8:00 PM and so he goes to bed between 8 and 8:30.

So, does being a morning person preclude also being an evening person?

I'm assuming it has to do with being close to the Equator.

Mornings are great but I could do without getting up in the dark during the short day months.

Have been getting up at 5-5:30 while it is still dark.
Don't like it much. Fired up the time machine to come here and say that.
