I love the look of the trees after a fresh snowfall! How much did you get down there? 15.5 inches here in Eau Claire!

Lucky! Are they grooming the ski trails?

There are few things more spectacular than a snowy forest after a snowfall or a crystal forest sparkling in the sunlight after a freezing rain or fog.

Zweefer म्हणाले...

I can't speak for the ski trails, but I saw several snowmobiles out yesterday.

Illinois is experiencing a thaw... in their rules against concealed carry. :)

We've had 4 inches this month so far here in Madison -- I doubt the actual depth was ever greater than 2-1/2 inches, but the warm ground (it's still mid-30s a couple inches down) means the snow is melting from below, and we don't even have an inch left.

Sure felt cold this morning.

Right around a foot here. My youngest was really disappointed last year when we never got enough snow to make a snowman. Now, we've got one taller than him!

Entirely blue sky and seventy degrees here.

It is very difficult to get into the Christmas mood.

But with this kind of weather, it's easy to be cheery.

Pretty, but not yet a three dog night. Two will have to do.

That looks like what my father used to call hoar frost -- fog that has frozen instantly when it touches sub-freezing twigs and branches. Out here in northern Nevada we use the Washoe Indian word for that frost: pogonip, with the accent on the second syllable. Nice word. If I think of it in the morning it becomes an ear worm that I can't get rid of all day.

One of many reasons I like it here. Sunny and 70 doesn't tempt me until about April.

Patrick म्हणाले...

OK, maybe sometimes in February, but only when it gets below zero for a few days in a row.

You won The Blonde's heart with that one, Madame.

As a relatively new Madison resident, I found this article interesting: Students leaving Madison school district.

The school district thinks the solution is better marketing, such as, "the district is working on a redesign of its website..."

You have to read the comments at the link to discover what the real problem is. (Chicago urban culture)

I'm glad Meade didn't go to Michigan.

They promised violence and even punched out a reporter.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

@Sorun Thanks, I noticed that headline on the newspaper when I was out today and planned to come home and write about it. Thanks for the reminder.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

@Pogo Already put up a new post about that.

I was wait-listed for EPS 465 Mars Evolutions and just got notice to register for it.

I realize no one cares but I am STOKED!

Also... I don't know if this link will work but...

At least 16" here in Star Prairie. Spent a long time sitting on the 1949 Farmall model H tractor plowing. The snow closest to the ground was wet, which caused the snow to stick to the snow plow blade. Making pushing it even harder.
