Because, unlike Panetta, Lurch wouldn't have the guts to do any end runs.
PS Althouse chews gum?

Anyone have an iPad keyboard to recommend? One that isn't part of an iPad case?
I saw a woman typing on an iPad in a restaurant, and I thought, "That's a nice way to do a work lunch." Then I saw that her son, sans electronic device, was in the booth across from her!
The future of watching people mince around on tiny electronic devices while oblivious to their surroundings is now.
Dentyne Ice is far superior to Eclipse, in my opinion. Of course, to each their own, strokes for folks, etc.
If there were one item I could eliminate from the world, it would be chewing gum. I have diagnosed myself with misophonia.
Saint Bernard, man speaking Polish coaxing down stairs, dog speaking English not having any.
I see that The Official Gum uses maltitol and sorbitol as sweeteners.
As a veterinarian I'd like to tell people who have dogs to be VERY careful if your gum of choice uses XYLITOL as a sweetener. Xylitol is very toxic to dogs and a very small amount can lead to irreversible liver failure.
So...if your gum contains xylitol, keep it out of reach of your dogs!
How the other half lives (from an article today by vernon Loeb, Paula Broadwell's credited co-author of All In.)
Loeb, a runner, meets Petraeus for the first and only time during the writing of the book. This occurs just after Petraeus has been selected for CIA.
So one morning, at the appointed hour, I showed up at Fort Myer and was met by an aide. He took me to the general’s stately home on the base. Two or three black sport-utility vehicles waited out front, along with a dozen or so aides, junior officers, NCOs, even a security guard from the CIA, since Petraeus had already been nominated to take over the agency.
We drove six miles out along the Potomac, were dropped off, and ran back along the dirt tow path.
"I almost have time to talk to you, but only if I am multi-tasking by taking my daily allotment of exercise at the same time."
What's all this running? Wasn't he running with Broadwell too? Is this a Washington thing or a General thing or just a Patraeus thing? Do you have to run to talk? Is it a manifestation of Type-A?
Just about to get from Amazon via your site, the new book by Paula Broadwell. It is titled:
Pull Out.
It is the sequel to the awarding winning, All In.
I think the running was a Petraeus thing. At least, that's what Broadwell was saying on her book tour. The implication seemed to be that she got such good access to him because she was a very good runner and could keep up. But yeah, I wonder how all these high powered people have so much time to exercise.

"FBI agents on Monday night raided the home of Paula Broadwell, the alleged mistress of former CIA director David Petraeus, WCNC reporter Dianne Gallagher reported via her official Twitter account.
Gallagher said “two men with briefcases just showed up to the Broadwell home… ran inside.” The reporter also said later “dozens of people” showed up to the home, carrying bags and boxes inside, possibly to gather evidence.
“FBI agents have been inside Paula Broadwell’s Dilworth home for about an hour now. About a dozen there, with bags/boxes, taking pics,” Gallagher added."
WTF?
A photographic scene attractive as this is available to you at your fingertips. Within days you can have this splendid advanced modern design arrangement or one similar delivered to your door. Notice the ease and the apparent insouciance with which the elements are thrown together, each actually carefully arranged. Graceful, spontaneous, lively and teasing, the designer will have you think it all careless while displaying the studious design structure of disciplined ikibana.

Petraeus Update...
The FBI Agent that the woman (Kelly) receiving the threatening e-mails from Broadwell went to with the "original" complaint, may have also have been having relations with the the FBI agent she allegedly went to with her complaint.
The FBI agent is alleged to have sent shirtless pictures of himself to the complainant woman.
Affairs are complicated.
She's probably about to be Nakoula-ed.
I'm still hung up on the billion dollars minus a mere 700,000 that is troubling the NYT.
So sad for them.
If I spend $25 dollars on gum it won't be mint flavor.
And then it shall be as in the last days of the Roman Empire.
Generals shall lie down with subordinates and FBI agents will loose control in fits of jealousy.
Obamas protection detail in Colombia appears to have been the tip of the iceberg.
So... if you go back to October 26, when Petraeus said about the Benghazi affair - "No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate."... did Petraeus know that the FBI was poking around his digital and that woman... Paula Jones... and if he did why did he hang on until after the election to resign?
See, I'm watching a perturbed, mildly distressed press over the resignation of Petraeus... and not necessarily too interested in what may have precipitated it... god forbid they go poking around and they find something and then they have to report it.
Its funny watching CNN's Cooper who seemed ignorant that e-mail threats could be handled by the feds... he kept asking asking why is this not a local matter... why is the FBI involved?
And he still asking why did Petraeus have to resign?
That boat sailed Mr Cooper.
Sorry, I meant to say Paula Broadwell... not Paula Jones.
After agents interviewed Ms. Broadwell, she let them examine her computer, where they found copies of classified documents, according to the officials. Both Mr. Petraeus and Ms. Broadwell denied that he had given her the documents, and FBI officials eventually concluded they had no evidence to suggest otherwise.
Even as the probe of the relationship between Mr. Petraeus and Ms. Broadwell intensified in late summer and early fall, authorities were able to eventually rule out a security breach, though intelligence officials became concerned Mr. Petraeus had left himself exposed to possible blackmail, according to officials.

I'm trying to practice a html link and this hit my eye.
Here's how Lena Dunham gets rewarded for having election sex with the president. Can he be forced to resign for that?
Happy dance.
Tomorrow is one week after the great day in which President Obama won re-election and crushed the forces of darkness. How is everyone else celebrating that day? Personally, I'll just go to work like any other Tuesday, but for a moment, I'll look up at the sky, smile and say thank you. What about the rest of you?
What is it with the Lena Dunham types who all have vagina flower prints? Several friends I went to high school with are Obamabots now and they all have vagina flower prints. I don't get it.

What no "work" at the "office" tomorrow?
Or is every day a day off with Dictator Zero in command?

I got an AP news alert the top General in Afghanistan is being investigated for emails sent to one of the women in this Petraeus affair.
I love that robot.
This is from the AP news alert:
Tuesday that the top American commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen, is under investigation for alleged "inappropriate communications" with Kelley.
Amazing.
Still waiting for Inga the Lying Obama Whore to explain how Obama's arresting and frog-marching a man whom Obama knew had nothing to do with the riots in Libya is ok under the First Amendment.
Shhh...wait for her flippant denials....
The only person dead from my high school class was the guy most gung-ho to serve his country in the military. He died in Iraq early last year as a major in the army under mysterious circumstances. Majors don't usually get killed. He left behind a wife and two young kids. We were in Iraq to begin with on a pack of lies and a total lack of good intel. It's nice to know that our military brass are busy getting blow jobs under their desks by worshipful fangirl biographers (because they want to be hyped for the history books) while this BULLSHIT is going on. FUCK THEM. FUCK THEM ALL TO HELL. The journalists worship the military in this country today as if we are now a fascist state. They literally worship the military and will question nothing. No surprise that a "journalist" had Patraeus' cock in her mouth, and had him busting nuts in her mouth. Fuck them all to hell. This Paula Broadwell is one of these people who Tweets a bunch of bullshit, quoting Churchill and on and on, about great leaders She hyped herself as a high-performance alpha-woman. I'm sick to death of every god damn "alpha" male or female. Fuck them to hell.
Broadwell had a ghost writer for her book? She's a biographer, but needed a ghost writer? I'm missing so much with this mess.
It occurs to me perhaps Kelley told the FBI guy about the weird emails because she thought they were about him.
As we head toward another fiscal cliff it would be nice if journalists raised more awareness of Woodward's Price of Politics.
At a minimum it should be a cautionary tale for how badly and ineptly the WH and Congress handled the last fiscal cliff. And even though we've known this was coming, it's extremely disheartening to hear that nothing has been done. They just wait until the only option left is to raise the debt ceiling.
LOL! Now General John Allen is sucked into the scandals for alleged inappropriate emails to Jill Kelley, the "unpaid social liaison" (whatever the fuck that is). Some military leadership we've got!

Maybe you've been observing different wars than I have.
I gave a copy of Divine Comedy illustrated by Doré to Dr. Fred that I bought from the Tattered Cover while still at the old building. Packed and creaky, I don't know how I found the thing but I snatched it right up. Fred goes, "are you sure?" It was a great book, but I looked at all the engravings already and fascinating as that all is there's only so much you can take aand Fred sure did like the book when he saw it.
Then I asked Fred if I could have his copy of the Powers of Ten and he said no.
Bastard.
So I bought one on Abebooks and had it on the coffee table the next time Fred came over and he's all, what? wait. what?
"I got it for a dollar.
You libroretentive bastard."
Then I squeezed my butt cheeks real tight and looked constipated and stepped in tight footsteps like I had a book shoved up my butt.
And then he died.
It occurred to me the book might be helpful for students to grasp the enormity of 20 trillion dollars but I doubt it. The video is better. If nothing else you get to look in on a nice couple having a picnic in lakeshore drive park.

Doesn't "general stuff" usually include exhibiting a little more self-control than a teenage boy behind the gym with the town slut?
Freeman, MayBee, who ever I was talking to about 3D printing.
NASA is printing prototype rocket engine parts out of metal. They are using powdered metal Ti, Fe, stainless, etc and using a high powered laser to fuse the powder.
Very high cool factor.

They're only as good as their C in C lets them be. ROE and all that.
Rusty-
It must have been Freeman, but I am fascinated (and a little confused!) by the 3-D printing technology. Really cool.
"Seriously?"
Get it?
I wonder what happened to flightlevel390.com which I think was mentioned the other day.
Whether it got the sudden removal treatment from an uncaring Google, in particular.
They just wait until the only option left is to raise the debt ceiling.
The debt will go up until the budget is balanced, so it's got to go up.
The Republicans use it as a point of leverage for concessions lest something horrible and inefficient happen, but some of them are confused about the necessity of its actually going up. It's got to go up.
That's a bad hill to die on.
When you figure out how to balance the budget and actually run a surplus, then it can go down. That requires a change in news narratives at the minimum.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but we need Chip Ahoy to do one of his animated graphics, with the Eclipse gum moving up and "eclipsing" the robot.
Someone should make a graphic showing all the money the democrats have wasted on stimulus, shovel ready and fake green start ups.
Stacked 1 dollar bills to the moon an back.
"Unpaid social liaison"
That's what high class call girls should call the college girls who get drunk and put out for free.
Yep, yet's raise the debt ceiling.
And taxes because we need the revenue.
And continue to expect the rest of the world to devote 19% of its total GDP to finance our profligate spending.
This house of cards is going to collapse in my lifetime.
When distribution stops, I am going to be dead within a couple of months, because I am medication dependent. No Synthroid, no life.
So I won't bother with bugout bags, stockpiled groceries, and serious stores of guns and ammo.
I will just do what I can while alert, to get to my sister's farm, then start drinking....and lay me down and die.
So you all can deal with the mess.
For now I am enjoying the string quartet.

I researched this exhaustively last spring and found that the ones people raved about (Zagg Folio, etc.) were expensive and, according to customer reviews, prone to break easily. I ended up buying a cheaper Apple wireless keyboard. http://www.apple.com/keyboard/ It was exactly what I was looking for to work on documents in Pages without having to lug the laptop around. If you have the magnetic cover you can just prop up the iPad and start working.
Thanks, Farmer.
OOps.
Looks like Jessie Jackson Jr.s wife is going to be indicted too.
What did skippy know and when did he know it?
ROE does matter.
Of course, if ROE were relaxed, we'd have more competent 'warring' ... but certain people here would be apoplectic about collateral damage.
Rusty, Obama will pardon them and Jackson willl probably run in the special election to replace himself.
Think Washington, D.C. and Marion Barry.

It's Chicago, Clyde. The tune remains the same and only the inmates change.
We got Rezko, Blago, Jessy Jr. Water swirling around the drain. The president can protect himself-think Bill Murray in King Pin-but little skippy Daley is looking behind him all the time now. Could little Rahm know something? Durbin?
If it weren't for the graft and corruption Chicago would be a very boring city.
