Or is there some other thing, withheld? This is completely stupid and amounts to nothing. (Trump offering to give $5 million to charity if Obama releases his birth certificate, college records, and passport application.) I can't believe this clown is given attention for that, and I wonder if this is all he had all along or if the rumored story about cocaine dealing or divorce were in the works and, when the rumor smoked out too much negativity, Trump cooked up this new nonsense.
Trump's teaser was "I have something very, very big concerning the President of the United States." "Have" suggested some item of evidence damaging to Obama, but if you look closely at the words now, you can see he might always only have meant what we're hearing now. He has something concerning the President. Not something on the President.
What idiocy! What a waste of time!

Well, I was right about one thing last night – don’t base your speculation on what someone heard from a Gnome. Jeez, Ann, you get up in some commenter’s grills if they miss something in a post or link. If anyone had looked carefully at the article, it would have been apparent that it was all baseless speculation. In the meantime, the Obama’s one-time consideration of divorce a long time ago got maximum exposure at this blog (and everywhere else too) – 166 comments based on what someone heard from a gnome. Obviously this was a sucker play, and the joke was on us.
He's not wasting his time, only yours. And mine at this very moment. Stop feeding him oxygen.
This announcement doesn't fit the pre-announcement rumors that Trump had something significant. My guess, Trump decided to pull back on whatever he had, and rather than admit that, he's put out this statement.
I can't see how ANYONE thinks that this blowhard is, in any way, relevant anymore.
Wants publicity.

Actually, I don't think this is a 'birther' issue at all.
It's the speculation that Obama CLAIMED to be born in Kenya during his college years for the benefits it would provide him.
Trump GOP Front-Runner in Latest Poll: Real estate tycoon now leads Romney, Huckabee, and Palin
Remember when I said that Republican primary voters are the absolute dumbest people on the planet?
Maybe Trump already knows about or has the transcripts and is giving Obama a chance to release them.
The way he's going about this now smacks of blackmail, but he does seem to think there is something damning in those records. It's probably not bad grades, but rather feigned Kenyan citizenship, IMO.
Remember when I said that Republican primary voters are the absolute dumbest people on the planet?
Remember when we didn't care what you said about Republican primary voters?
Waste of time? Are you kidding? It gave some of our more colorful commentators an opportunity to speculate and accuse the president of using and selling drugs, (apparently even in the present), to talk about his disturbing sex proclivities, his troubled relationship with his wife and children, all based on his lies and deceipt, or Michelle's as well.
Some of you show a lot of character. You should be proud of yourselves. You do the right credit.
It's actually kind of funny. We could all use a one day distraction story. My guess is that Trump will donate $5 million to charity in Obama's name anyway.
Actually, this Trump BS is tactically useful because it causes normal, non-politically-obsessed Americans to dismiss any such "October surprise" allegations from others (Allred, for example) as just more of the same BS. Which keeps the focus on the economy and Benghazi.
Which isn't good for Obama.
Trump just immunized Romney from whatever last-minute, half-assed crap Obama might have thrown out there over the next 13 days.
And Trump got his name in the media again. A win-win for The Donald!
It's going to be funny when Romney loses, the Republicans can look back with regret and say, "If only we had nominated Donald Trump. Or Sarah Palin!"
Trump is a clown, and the attention he draws to himself is as that given to a sideshow geek.
Unfortunately, this sideshow geek has a lot of money at his disposal and can do a lot of damage.
I wish he would have said $5 Million to Planned Parenthood or Susan Komen Foundation, or a charity of Obama's choice.
Just to see create some interest amongst the female vote.
You're fired!
"It's going to be funny when Romney loses, the Republicans can look back with regret and say, "If only we had nominated Donald Trump. Or Sarah Palin!"
I'm thinking you will be saying, "If only they had nominated someone else" when Romney wins.
A couple more weeks and we'll know, won't we?
Trump is about promoting Trump. Why the surprise? He's also no dummy. Perhaps he has more and this is the 1st announcement, not the last.
Uberlame.
Remember when I said that Republican primary voters are the absolute dumbest people on the planet?
Coming from you, that's an expert opinion.
Donald Trump is very good at getting people to talk about Donald Trump. In that light, this wasn't a waste of time at all, though I agree he probably was going to come up with something juicier - maybe a copy of a birth certificate he says is the real one? But the Romney campaign talked him off that ledge.

Maybe he is also 1/32 Cherokee.
I didn't think the Donald was that stupid. I was wrong.
My favorite part of the Republican attachment to loony conspiracy theories is when the idiot Republicans start adopting mutually exclusive conspiracy theories and then start arguing among themselves about whose conspiracy theory is correct.
"
Some of you show a lot of character. You should be proud of yourselves. You do the right credit."
At least we didn't use someone's divorce records as a way to get into office. This stuff couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
"My favorite part of the Republican attachment to loony conspiracy theories is when the idiot Republicans start adopting mutually exclusive conspiracy theories and then start arguing among themselves about whose conspiracy theory is correct."
That's so deep. You really took that down a path there.
Allred might be as well, via Insty:
...The full details of the case and the nature of the hearing could not be learned, but Robert Jones, an attorney at the Boston law firm of Ropes & Gray, who is representing Romney in this matter told TIME in a statement, “This is a decades-old divorce case in which Mitt Romney provided testimony as to the value of a company. He has no objection to letting the public see that testimony.”
Allred, an Obama delegate at the Democrats’ national convention in Charlotte this summer, strikes fear in the hearts of many Republicans, who see her as a hyper-partisan attorney with a political agenda behind many of her high-profile cases.
Somebody please tell Joe Biden the definition of 'donate' before he gets asked about this . . .
I'm going to go out on a limb, here, and say that Gloria Allred doesn't apply her own makeup.
This was asked of other presidents (and candidates) and they complied.
trumpetdaddy is spot on.
Why is it so fashionable to assert that Trump is being ridiculous anyway?
Obama wants to take rich people's money. Here is his chance. What are the odds he will take it? Zero. Obama has already spent millions to keep his records secret. Most transparent administration, my ass!
Andy R. speculates
It's going to be funny when Romney loses, the Republicans can look back with regret and say, 'If only we had nominated Donald Trump. Or Sarah Palin!'
It would equally amusing to speculate that a Romney win could have been avoided had the militant Sullivanists and feminists encouraged a third-party candidacy Palin instead of irrationally opposing her every move.
If you had the chance to give $5 million to a charity, and all you have to do is hand over you college records and passport info ...
Would you?
I would. It would be a nice way for Obama to increase good will with people.
It was always a bluff, to do three things:
Make the Obama campaign panic, because they know Obama has campaign-killing skeletons in his closet...
Make the media panic and release semi-damaging info as a way of defusing a campaign-killing revelation Ben Smith-ing), because the media knows damaging info on Obama it is sitting on (like the video the LA Times won't let us see)...
Steal the thunder of the Democrats attempt at an October surprise cheap shot...
I don't think the hand is finished yet.
RE: The Boston Globe
Can anyone explain why the Boston Globe has a journalistic interest in seeking disclosure of the old sealed divorce records? What is the basis for any legal action by the Globe, if not sheer partisanship?
If the Globe has a journalism interest, how does one distinguish it from what should have been a journalism interest in disclosing Elizabeth Warren's Harvard employment file?
I'm seeing a "What If They Mated" composite of Allred and Trump, with her painted grimace and his comb-over.
Gloria and "the Donald" - fraternal twins, separated at birth. Fruit of the tree...
MEANWHILE: Gloria Allred is still at large.
What could Romney have said in someone else's divorce that would effect his running for president? I suspect there is nothing and that Allred's goal isn't to get the testimony released. Rather she intends the Judge's denial to create the impression Romney is hiding something, much as Romney not releasing his tax returns was used to create a similar myth.
Unless he was sleeping with the wife I can't imagine anything else would matter. Maybe that's the rumor the Dems are planning to start, we can't seem to go a cycle without a Democratic whisper campaign.
Reminds me a little of the Segway lead in. The most important invention ever!!!
Only then it was announced and people wondered how it could be important and revolutionary.
That being said, the inoculation against other "revelation" idea sounds like it might fit. It could also be one of those "I know what you did" sort of responses, where Obama knows there's stuff out there that could be very damaging, so might be careful about putting out Romney's problems if he thinks his own might be revealed.
The $5 million isn't much of a draw, I would imagine. Look at Clinton. Obama will be on the top of the speaker circuit making that much in a few months.
Or basically what Nathan Alexander already said...
Drudge tweeted last Thursday that Allred was working on an "October surprise" to embarrass or derail Romney's ascendancy. I think Trump's stunt was a bluff to make Allred think twice about her stunt. Then he had to come up with something and this is it.
Trump's stunt puts Obama in the awkward spot of publicly denying a charity $5 million so that he can keep his very basic records about himself concealed - implying he's hiding something.
Ahhh the Donald. He is a world class bore .... and happily he is the GOP's world class bore.
All yours. Not ours.
damn--they dont make October surprises like they used to. Romney's atty said they have no objections to the records being released--suck on that one Gloria; and Trump has even less.
What a bunch of celebrity hunting clowns--although it possibly true that Barack H Obama is actually the love child of Allred and Trump.

re: the Gloria Allred thing: Looks like a typical case of an ex-spouse trying to relitigate a divorce.
hdhouse, you sound so tribal.
This was not so Yooooouge.
I think he either backed off or has some kind of evidence relating to Obama's applications.
I totally agree with Althouse that this is a big nothing. Vote for or against Obama based on his last four years of leadership. We don't need to look at his application or his background for a proxy of what kind of president he will be. We have a really good idea what kind of president Obama will be at this point.
I think that's all one needs to select Romney, who isn't what I wanted in a nominee, but is clearly an improvement in leadership.
If the Globe has a journalism interest, how does one distinguish it from what should have been a journalism interest in disclosing Elizabeth Warren's Harvard employment file?
Warren is a democrat. Romney is a republican.
Do I need to go on?
Windy, puffed-up, tendentious blowhard.
Are we sure The Donald isn't really garage mahal?
Happily, $5 million might be enough to tempt some soul in the bowels of the administration at Columbia, or Harvard to spit it out. The transcripts would show all A's of course so there would be that further evidence of what we knew all along: that Barack H. Obama was a humble man always anxious to keep his brilliance as low key as possible. It isn't what he wants but golly it would be a nice thing for us all to acknowledge before he left public office
Ahhh the Donald. He is a world class bore .... and happily he is the GOP's world class bore.
All yours. Not ours.
He's a registered Democrat, house.
Just like Fred Phelps.
Are we sure The Donald isn't really garage mahal?
We've certainly never seen them in the same room together...or have we?
Trump is a very talented guy, not only did he take advantage of his dad's start in real estate and get rich but he is also a very good golfer who builds some pretty good golf courses too. Trump is not a liberal who pretends to have compassion for the poor, he is what he is and proud of it. I like that about him and I like that he is someone who will stand up to the liberal media and the crooked Dems. I'm not impressed with liberals who feel the need to overcompensate for their selfishness by pretending to be better than others through their support for big government.
If he had the transcripts, that would have been different.

Stealing oxygen from free-lance Democrat operative Gloria Allred is a good thing, even if the result is a nothing-burger. A few more rounds of this and maybe October surprises will be properly ignored.
Several thoughts:
1) I don’t care about any skeletons in Obama’s closet. This election is about policy, the challenges facing the country and which candidate is best able to meet those challenges. Based on their respective records, Romney is the better choice.
2) I have no interest in anything Donald Trump has to say on any subject . I have no interest in Donald Trump. I don’t watch his or any other “reality” program. I did not watch any of the “debates” in which he was in nor any interviews with him or press conferences with him. I wish that he would go away.
3) That is all.

Excellent point.
Self promoting, once again, but apparently he doesn't care how foolish it makes him look.
Also gave some commenters here the opportunity to accuse Obama of wife abuse, adultery, being gay, selling cocaine, and surprisingly no one accused him of being the Antichrist.

My favorite part of the Republican attachment to loony conspiracy theories is when the idiot Republicans start adopting mutually exclusive conspiracy theories and then start arguing among themselves about whose conspiracy theory is correct.
You mean like the times when some people said Bush was an idiot, while others argued that he was a diabolical genius?
My bad, those weren't Republicans.
I guess that's a reflection on people who get attached to crazy conspiracy theories, instead of about Republicans in general.
You don't understand, Althouse...it's YUUUUGE!
"Stealing oxygen" -- will be fun watching hucksters Trump and Allred asphyxiate each other.
I wish someone would offer me that deal. If I could get $5 Million put to good use by a charity for just telling the truth about stuff that most people don't hide anyway, I'd jump on it. Of course I don't have anything to hide. You do have to wonder why Obama is hiding this stuff, don't you? What could he be hiding that would cause a normal charitable person to refuse this offer? Would you refuse it?

Well, that implies two things. The first implication is that he gamed the system and lied about his birth place in order to get preferential treatment. Just like Elizabeth Warren did in claiming she's an indian. Or secondly, he really was born in Kenya and has been hiding that fact ever since. I'm not a birther, but the fact that the Obama's have seen fit to have those records sealed is telling.
Why then would Hillary in 2007 start the birther idea to begin with. Either the clintons knew this guy was born in kenya or they found or have documentation that says that he was born in kenya and wasn't.
So you could dispel crazy conspiracy theories that slander you and hurt the country, and simultaneously put $5 million toward helping suffering children dying of cancer, but you say: "Nope, I got my principles."
"The Democrats are going to need a bigger October Surprise."
That is what I'm worried about. Pat Caddell says the Dems will do something. The corrupt Obamanites Dems will not not go gentle into that good night.
bagoh asks an interesting question.
why would you allow thousands of children to starve just to keep anyone from seeing your college records? WTF?
Regardless of what we might think of Trump, we all should be grateful that he put a stop the bullying by Rosie O'Donnell. I really like the way the Donald shut her big bullying mouth up.
It's vaguely disgusting to have 5 million dollars lying around you could give to charity and hold it hostage to blackmail demands from your political opponent.
Obama should say no on those grounds alone, just to discourage that kind of despicable behavior.

Andy R.: "It's vaguely disgusting to have 5 million dollars lying around you could give to charity and hold it hostage to blackmail demands from your political opponent. "
No. He just wants the money to get maximum results: Go to charity and help Obama dispel these treacherous lies about him. Apparently, you prefer neither.
I could see if he was asking for highly private personal information that was no one's business, but that is definitely not the case. This is info anyone would have to give up for most civil service positions and a lot of other jobs. Imagine an FBI agent, a Secret Service agent or even any rookie cop in America refusing to give this up for the job. They would not get hired.

For someone who actively promoted lies about Romney - that he took a 77k tax credit relating to his horse, that there are tax credits for offshoring jobs, and that Romney supports these non-existent credits - Inga is remarkably concerned about rumormongering.
You'd think that just as a matter of preserving her own credibility she'd at least make an effort to be either factual or consistent.

Oh, right, the line was too long.
Interesting comments here. Some thoughts:
Conservs have hyper knee jerk reaction to lefts threat of mockery and ridicule, because in the past the tactic has worked so well. So everyone scurries to laugh first at Trump, to provide immunization from lefty ridicule. Doesn't really work, but credit for trying. What works, is flipping them the bird and being confident in yourself enough to shrug it off.
It was all Allred..and then it wasn't. Check...checkmate. Like him or not, he was big enough to stand face to face with the Obama campaigns history of old records mud slinging in campaigns, blocked the sun and suddenly maybe "old records" don't look so appealing to the press. Remember this is all about what the press can run with here, not facts.
Trump is making an offer. He knows Obama can't release these records or he wouldn't do this. He can't because there's something in there, probably use of foreign student aide and placements to get ahead. Look at pattern of WH leaks with anything pro Obama and tell me that this same group wouldn't release his "excellent" grades and records if they had them and it worked for them?
Finally he gave them a deadline. Why? No knee jerk reactions. Ask yourself what deadlines are meant to do and why we use them?
Well this sure isn't an October surprise, crooked Dems doing what they always do.

Re: Obama CLAIMED to have been born in Kenya.
That is a stupid allegation. Why so? Because if a kid claimed to have been born in Kenya the college might well ask him to prove it, and he could not prove it because he was not born in Kenya. And if he could not prove his claim, then the college would not let him in, and it might send on the information that he lied in an application to other colleges--and he would lose out on going to college.
So, how do we know that Obama for sure was not born in Kenya?
(1) the Kenyan government has said that it checked out that allegation that Obama was born in Kenya and found that it was FALSE;
(2) if a child actually were born in Kenya, she or he would need a US travel document, such as being entered on the mother's USA passport to get to the USA (we do not allow children to be carried into the country)---and yet no such document has been found;
(3)only 21 people total came to the USA from Kenya in 1961, and of them only one came by plane (which has always been the birther story about that trip), so the chances of it happening were always pretty low;
(4) WND has proved with a FOI Act request that Obama senior stayed in Hawaii throughout 1961----so if Obama's mother had taken that trip, she would have had to have traveled ALONE----and that is hardly likely for such an expensive and risky trip (stillbirth and Yellow Fever in Kenya);
(5) Obama has a birth certificate showing that he was born in Kapiolani Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the facts on it have been repeatedly confirmed by the officials of both parties in Hawaii, and by the Index Data file and by the birth notices sent to the newspapers by the DOH of Hawaii in 1961 (and only the DOH could send notices to that section of the paper, and the DOH only sent notices for children that it had issued birth certificates to, and it was only allowed to issue birth certificates to children born in Hawaii in 1961.)

I think the Donald is liked and respected a lot more than Allred.
As much as I hate to say it I think Trump made a fool of himself on purpose to counteract the Allred crap.
I guess I have to give Trump some credit there. Granted he is an obnoxious windbag, but he must have known this would be mocked.
He knows he has no chance of making money if Obama is reelected. Obama's donors will continue to make huge profits but the rest of us will be SOL.
Meanwhile, Allred's scoop on Mitt is that he falsely testified about the value of Staples to screw the owner's wife out of a divorce settlement. I'm sure the divorced wife thinks he did.
Ironically I'm now heading to Staple to buy some supplies.
"Re: Obama CLAIMED to have been born in Kenya.

Just like Elizabeth Warren had to prove she was A Cherokee. Yea, nobody ever lies about that stuff and gets away with it, because college admissions ruthlessly do everything they can to keep out minority students.
LOL, Trump almost certainly achieved his objective, which was to marginalize any "October Surprise" brought forth by Gloria Allred. The goal was to make Allred's upcoming surprise just another ho-hum example of late-campaign partisan bickering.
Or to put it another way, Trump trumped the frump.
Well, another look. You're trying to get low information voters. Like people who watch reality shows. On November 1, Trump runs full page ads, "I offered 5 million to his favorite charity to show records that you would have to show to get a job. He refused. Is he hiding something? You be the judge. Call 1-900...."
I'll bet Trump has the records, so if something FALSE is released, he can TRUMP it.
I'm losing a lot of money in the stock market today, I wonder if the market is discounting a Dem October surprise.
I kind of think that a key to Trump's success is that he doesn't give a damn if people laugh at him. He self promotes pretty well, and gets people to pay attention. Hell, I even watched Celebrity Apprentice for a good chunk of a season. He had no intention of affecting the election, he wanted some ink. So much the better if it intruded on Gloria's turf.
I don't think any one ever claimed he was the dumbest person in the world, just the dumbest ever to be elected president.
Fortunately for him, he didn't have to wait long until the US elected someone dumber.
Discounting as factoring the October surprise into stock prices.
Dumb and dumber is Carter and Obama.
Perhaps the stock market is reflecting fears that Romney will win and what will happen as a consequence of a trade war with China.
Well, media made a huge issue in 2004 about demanding Bush record release (only to discover that they are no worse than Kerry's). I have been wondering why they do not demand release of Obama's records too. The absence of this curiosity is an issue by itself. So I think that Trump is right to seek record release, although I would not think it's a really big issue, but in reality the fact is nobody really knows whether it is a big issue or not. However, media hyping Allred "cause" while rediculing Trump's does not "amounts to nothing". I guess Obama will let his faithful minions in the media to explain the curious that they should not think it is a big issue.
Or they know QE3 is over.
Maybe a fear that the fed will tighten under Romney or maybe the market is just due for a correction.
We got oil & coal, China needs both.
"Perhaps the stock market is reflecting fears that Romney will win and what will happen as a consequence of a trade war with China."
I liked Romney's answer in the debate to that concern.
The reason no one thinks Obama is the Antichrist is that we assume that the Antichrist would be not only totally evil but also extremely competent.
A Romney win would be good for coal, good for our country too.
Perhaps the stock market is reflecting fears that Romney will win and what will happen as a consequence of a trade war with China.
Yeah, that's gotta be it. The market would absolutely loathe a business-savvy president.
"Yeah, that's gotta be it. The market would absolutely loathe a business-savvy president."
The President's cronies would.
The stock market is reflecting shitty corporate earnings and a sinking economy. Hard to snark about this, progressives, but there you are.
I think the market took a second look at Michelle's "midst of aa huge recovery."
EMD, those who manufacture goods in China are getting a bit nervous with Romney's tough talk about China. My son in law is in China again as we speak, 100% of his products are made there.
There is going to be no "trade war" with China. No one is going to stop making goods in China until equivalent quality at cheaper prices is available elsewhere at which point the jobs will be "exported" to that place.
Romney's China attacks worry business
My biggest beef with Romney right now is his incessant pandering to the anti-China vote.
I assume he knows better than to start a trade war with China. Just as Obama knows better than to foist a massive new tax on the middle class.
Oh. right.
Right.
The stock market is down because the guy you claim sent so much business to China is going to get into a beef with China.
That makes perfect sense.
You know the sound of a rapidly deflating balloon? That's what it sounded like when I read about Trump's bombshell. I was really hoping that Trump would hold a press conference, take the stage, and pull of his Donald Trump mask to reveal that he's the real Obama--and the man in the White House is an imposter! Then White House Obama runs on stage to insist that, no, that man is the imposter! Who are you going to believe?
That would have been grand.
I am also tickled by both Trump's and Allred's bombshells. Trump wants Obama's transcripts and our ever-inquisitive media insists that it's none of his or anyone's business. Allred isn't even after Romney's testimony. It's the Boston Globe digging into Romney's testimony concerning someone else's divorce from the 1990s, and Allred is just there to represent someone who doesn't object to the Globe's meddling.
Obama's past: Trump wants to investigate and the press doesn't care.
Romney's not-really-pertinent past: Allred wants to investigate but finds the press got there first.
Ha ha. What bias?
The stock market historically goes into the dumper in October.
Nothing new here. Move along.

Fortunately for him, he didn't have to wait long until the US elected someone dumber.
Remind me again who was president when 3,000 people were killed on US soil, when we started a 800 billion dollar war for no good reason and the economy underwent the worst financial crisis since the great depression. Under Obama, no terroist attacks on US soil, no new useless wars, the stock exchange has gone up by 40% and unemployment has declined.
Right.
The stock market is down because the guy you claim sent so much business to China is going to get into a beef with China.

no terroist attacks on US soil
Good one!
Let me tell you about international law and how foreign embassies are treated...
You need to update your talking points.
And really, when did the left start insisting we elect a president based on what's good for Wall Street and its expectations?
And really, when did the left start insisting we elect a president based on what's good for Wall Street and its expectations?
Same time they went crazy about Bush's spending. Tell the fuckers what they want to hear. Keep up the same old tax and spend bullshit.
Inga: Not one businessman is quoted in the article you linked. Trade groups with agendas.
Meanwhile my stocks are up today!!
"Under Obama, no terroist attacks on US soil, no new useless wars, the stock exchange has gone up by 40% and unemployment has declined."
Benghazi consulate is U.S. soil.
Libyan war appears to have backfired
The stock exchange has not moved an inch. The market has gone up but is below historic highs. 40% of not very much is not very much
More people unemployed now than at the beginning of the president's term.

Last I checked Fort Hood was part of the US. The nutty left's talking points haven't actually been true since ... pretty much ever.

No chance his widgets can be made in Southern Wisconsin? healthcare costs? Unionized workforce?
Inga--I would submit, as others have, the stock market is marking time to see what happens in the election. There are a lot of firms awash in cash but because of uncertainty they are not ready to spend it yet. They are considering the costs of Obamacare and more regulation among other things. I am guessing the market will be much more amenable to a Romney administration and if Romney wins, I do hope you have gone long.
Addendum: IMO the stock market will reflect investor confidence in the outcome of the election. Probably within the week.
RogerJ: I think you are correct in your observation though I would submit the market will await the results of the election before it throws a party. It will doubtless be spiky for a while given the European uncertainties. Romney will provide ballast during the lame duck period and should come out of the chute in January with a well-vetted team that will go to work to smooth some of the regulatory uncertainties and obstacles that confront the smaller business community. With this on the horizon and with consistent pro-business talk and cross aisle discussions on the budget and taxes I think we could see a striking rally next spring.

So according to her beliefs her son is ruining America right along with Romney. How fun Christmas must be.
Nope Marshal, sorry to burst your bubble. I adore my son in law and he is an excellent provider for my daughter and three grandchildren. He is a social liberal and an agnostic, we have MUCH in common and have wonderful discussions. He is well aware that I would prefer he manufacture goods here in the states, and both my son in law and daughter know I feel that they don't need three homes. But it is their right.

Why would you believe more proof of your hypocrisy would burst my bubble?
The market will have a big time bull rally with a Romney win but I don't know if it will discount a Romney win and take off before the election results, probably won't.
Marshal, with your warm and fuzzy personality, I bet your family holidays are blood baths.
Gloria needs to pull her wig on tighter and the Donald needs to lose his altogether. They'ra almost as hard to look at as they are to listen to.
I know of people who called Obama the AntiCrist 4 years ago. The wife abuse, adultery, and selling cocaine are new.

Funny, you've lectured many people on presuming to know you via blogs. Is this another of your hypocrisies? Do you have any level of self awareness? Or have you so internalized the left's philosophy that political reliability erases all other sins you believe it applies outside the cocoon?
Marshal, always so full of pompous shit.
"They don't need three homes."
Must be part of the hateful 1%.
But...that can't be!
I'm beginning to think Inga is a celebrity of some kind. You know... people with three homes in the 1% who are forgiven and allowed to be embraced by liberals, because their hearts are in the right place. Those who only express love for politically correct leftists.
Mitt is on his way to WI? Should be fun.
Wyo Sis, I do recall those Obama Antichrist accusations from 2008 too. I guess his head doesn't spin 360 degrees and no one has rebuilt the Temple Mount. Have any red calves been born?
I think the real Antichrist is Prince Charles, BTW.;)
Earnings are slowing.
Wyo Sis, I don't have three homes, they do and they are fiscal conservatives and vote Republican.
And yes I am a bit of a celebrity in my neighborhood, here in deep red Waukesha County. :)
Poor Inga. Not bad at posing and misdirection, but weak on direct. As a leftist you're working with weak material though, so maybe that's worth something on a curve. You'd score higher if you could only remember what you wrote in your last attack. But that's the problem with assuming a position only for the purposes of an attack isn't it? Since you don't really believe it doesn't stop you from contradicting yourself at some future point. And then the hypocrisy comes out and the credibility's gone.
Maybe you can try again with a new backstory.
The stock market is reflecting shitty corporate earnings and a sinking economy. Hard to snark about this, progressives, but there you are
And people cashing in their gains before the taxes go up. Also taking year end losses for tax purposes.
Every October, towards the end of the year this stuff happens.
" those who manufacture goods in China are getting a bit nervous with Romney's tough talk about China. "
Good! The more they worry about it, the more likely they will be to move those jobs back here. If Made-in-China becomes harder to profit from, my business and our people will get rich, pay more taxes, and buy more stuff from the rest of you. Plus we will be happy. You do want us to be happy don't you?
The stock market can go up or down regardless of the prospects of the country or business. Money flows into stocks often for no other reason than there is no place else to put it, which is why it has been strong in this recession. People with money want returns on it, and nobody is paying interest, so into stocks it goes. If things pick up people might start investing privately in smaller businesses and jobs, which although great, could actually lower the stock market.
I think the story goes that the antichrist is gonna be a pretty competent character, evil but competently evil. Another job Obama was never qualified for.
Marshal, so where did my backstory about my son in law change, please point it out.
Why yes of course, I want you and your employees to be happy Baggy.
Inga, If you are a celebrity, is there gonna be a sex tape? That's part of the program.
Baggy, not unless the plumber neighbor was filming on the night of the Walker win bacchanal....hey wait we woke up fully dressed, so I can say no with certainty, no sex tape.
Inga wrote:
Also gave some commenters here the opportunity to accuse Obama of wife abuse, adultery, being gay, selling cocaine, and surprisingly no one accused him of being the Antichrist.
Well as far as the idea of him taking drugs and perhaps selling them, he made the point himself in his memooir that he used coke. And Trump saidhe had a big bombshell, and someone online suggested it might be about an earlier potential divorce between Obama and Michelle. So all of this is simply SPECULATION as to what that big bombshell might be. If it's about divorce then why was it filed? I personally don't think, if it is about a divorce that it is really a story at all, unless the grounds for divorce are somthing really crazy (like Obama is gay or beat her). NOte, I'm not saying that's what I think it will say I'm just speculating as to what it might say to justify Trump saying its HUGE.
Now, with that out of the way. There are actually two people who are digging into the past. I recognize your disgust from Trumps actions but where's your disgust at Allred's actions. After her she is trying to get a judge to open up divorce proceeding records from decades ago where Romney testified. And he wasnt' even getting a divorce. He just testified. Clearly, the only reason to dig into those records is to dig up some dirt. So, the demss are trying to do some speculationg of their own an trying to suggest something SINISTER when it comes to Romney as their last minute October surprise.

That was a poll from back in April 2011! If its your argument that repubs think Trump is running today then you are either an idiot or dont check your links. If you are arguing that at any point Trump was leading in the polls and that makes repubs idiots, you are looking at ONE poll. Polls are notorious for being unreliabled. That poll may have been taken after Trump said something that repubs liked. But how long was he projected as a frontrunner? About a day? This single poll?
Methadras wrote:
Well, that implies two things. The first implication is that he gamed the system and lied about his birth place in order to get preferential treatment. Just like Elizabeth Warren did in claiming she's an indian. Or secondly, he really was born in Kenya and has been hiding that fact ever since. I'm not a birther, but the fact that the Obama's have seen fit to have those records sealed is telling.
Why then would Hillary in 2007 start the birther idea to begin with. Either the clintons knew this guy was born in kenya or they found or have documentation that says that he was born in kenya and wasn't.
Actually Obama's publicist started the whole thing, based on information supposedly provided by Obama himself when they put out his books. If your own publicist publishes something about you, do you wonder why people might assume it's true?
For example (Regarding the claim that Obama wasn't born in the US) there's this put out by his publicist as late as 2003- 2007:
http://www.wnd.com/2012/05/shocker-obama-was-still-kenyan-born-in-2003/
What if the opposite of birhterism is true. what if it's closer to Elizabeth Warrenism? I.e. barack Obama claimed while growing up to be born in Kenya to gain some benefit while going to school and/or to sell more copies of his books. (this might also be why he dones't want to release his school records).
Regardless, his story wasn't helped by his publicist saying this about him. So if those critical of birtherism really want to blame someone for the spreading of that story, you have only to look at Obama and his publicist.
Also, Inga, are you aware of how Obama got into the senate in the first place?
Supposedly the Obama campaign got their hands on Jack Ryan's divorce flining and leaked it to the press. And it had some details about Ryan's fantasies (not even anything acted upon)that he wanted to fly his then wife Jeri Ryan (Star Trek's 7 of 9) to a sex club/dungeon in Paris where they could do various sexual stuff. Again it was not something that was done, only things that he had fantasies about. And of course this was leaked to the press by Obama's campaign and he had to withdraw from the race after he had already won the nomination.
So, IF someone is digging up dirt on Obama, isn't turn around fair play? I doubt Inga and co were outraged that Ryan had to resign over his pecadillos.
Dems have NO cause to claim that people are engaging in digging up dirt, ESPECIALLY when it comes to Obama.
Inga
Here in the land of cattle---many red calves.
Uh oh.....
those who manufacture goods in China are getting a bit nervous with Romney's tough talk about China
And not by Obama's description of China as our adversary? :)
Both candidates have been playing to the "people who don't understand economics" vote by China-bashing. There's nothing new under the sun.
Trump is a salesman.
Salesman believe in the power of adjectives, not nouns or verbs.
And lets not also forget that Obama did the same thing to Blair Hull back in 2004.
Then Hull was leading Barack Obama in the polls. Suddenly, the Chicago Tribune leaked details that his wife had sought an order of protection against him back in 2008. Teh records were, sealed, and neither Hull or his wife wanted the records unsealed, but after relentless media scrutiny had to do so.
And Hull had to spend a few minutes in the debate defending himself concerning the abuse allegation in his divorce papers, explaining that his ex-wife “kicked me in the leg and I hit her shin to try to get her to not continue to kick me.”
He of course lost.
The Tribune author who wrote the initial hit piece said in print that "the Obama camp had ‘worked aggressively behind the scenes’ to push the story.” and many said that David Axelrod had “an even more significant role — that he leaked the initial story.”
So that's at least TWO instances of the Obama camp with media collusion, digging into peoples sealed records and releasing that dirt into the public right before an election and having a media help them assassinate the characters of those they are running against (which explains why they want Romney to release all of his taxes and why Allred is trying to get this earlier proceeding that Romney had some involvement in unsealed>
Because that's how Obama plays politics. Yet he was going to bring a new tone to politics. My Ass.
So, if Trump is playing the same dirty politics - well FUCK YOU Obama and David Axelrod. You of all people, dont get to pretend like you're above such dirt slinging.
I'm sure Inga didn't know about those stories, but my guess is, even if she did know, she'd find some way to excuse the behavior (especially when it came to the republican he was running against)>
However, doesn't hte adage "he who lives by the sword dies by the sword" apply here?
jr565:
Obama's actions can be best described as extortion, while Trump's offer resembles a civil rights business model. However, whereas the business promises a withdrawal of negative incentives, Trump is offering a positive incentive for Obama's voluntary transparency. Frankly, this is a far better offer than other presidents have received when they were asked for their personal records.
Unfortunately, the usual activists and journalists have no interest in full disclosure, so their effort is being replaced by other parties. So, in light of similar requests made of past presidents, it could be considered discriminatory if Obama was not treated equally.
Trump and Gloria Allred. Dumber and Dumber.
Why didn't Trump offer anyone $5 million to produce Barry's college records, and passport application? Seems like he'd have more success doing that, than challenging Barry to do it. Why do I always have to think of everything?
Well, another look. You're trying to get low information voters. Like people who watch reality shows. On November 1, Trump runs full page ads, "I offered 5 million to his favorite charity to show records that you would have to show to get a job. He refused. Is he hiding something? You be the judge. Call 1-900...."
Up until now, the MSM has been able to bury any questions about Obama's past and why he has steadfastly refused to release this information, by calling anyone even suggesting anything untoward to be crazy "birthers". Never mind that if Obama didn't have anything to hide, he wouldn't have spent so much time, money, and effort hiding it.
The problem for Obama and his protectors is that The Donald has a national microphone, and to defuse and refute him, and to justify why Obama isn't taking him up on his offer, they have to acknowledge that there is are issues about Obama's background that have never been cleared up because of their effort to hid this information. As a lot of pundits have said today, they would love to be in Obama's position, where all they needed to do was release their college and passport records to get to give $5 million to their favorite charity. I know I would. And, I suspect, so would most here.
Sure, Trump in a crazy birther. But, he is willing to put his money where his mouth is. Is Obama? Of course not. He is willing to give away trillions of dollars borrowed from China, but isn't willing to release this information to get Trump to donate to charity.
The important thing is that, with this, there are some low-information voters who are going to ask what is going on? Why is Trump willing to spend $5 million to get this information? Why isn't Obama taking him up on his offer? And, what is Obama hiding?
Unlikely to change any votes here, because most here are not low-information voters, almost by definition. But around the margins? Maybe. Keep in mind that he has had a somewhat successful reality show, and the people who followed it are just the sort of people who are likely to perk up their ears about this offer of his. They know that some of what he does is bluff - but which part? That is part of his allure.
And, the great thing is that this is likely to not cost Trump a dime. That he would pay is what makes the offer effective, but making this sort of gamble is how he has made his fortune, and made his name.
I think that with this, Gloria Allred is essentially neutered. Which leaves either a deal with Iran or "wag the dog" - meaning most likely some kinetic action somewhere besides Libya (because attacking there would be tacit admission that the Obama Administration lied about Benghazi). But, as was pointed out on Hannity today, the more we all talk about this sort of thing, the less likely it becomes, because the first thought that a lot of people will have is that "Obama must be really desperate now - here is his 'wag the dog' to save his reelection campaign". And, that means that it would likely backfire.

Trump doesn't want the records. He could care less. What he wants is the aforementioned low information voters asking themselves questions about the history of the current resident. Yeah it was high camp, but what Trump wants is,"That Trump. What a goofy douche. Say. What about those records anyway?"
He put the idea out there.
Laugher of the day: Obama's campaign says that Romney bears "some responsibility" for Trump's actions.
Why don't they go whole hog and blame it on Bush, too?
It turns out that Mitt Romney has not showed his college transcripts and passport records either.
Yet there is no Trump offer of $5 million to charity if Romney releases them. How unfair. Trump apparently likes Romney, and yet he does not seem eager to give $5 million to charity for Romney releasing transcripts and passport records. I wonder why not?
If Trump made the offer to both candidates, then it might be considered a fair offer of $10 million to charity. But he didn’t.
Moreover it seems to show that Trump has suspicions about Obama not being a good student, while he has no suspicions about Romney not being a good student. I wonder why that could be???
BTW, the allegation that Obama was a foreign exchange student came from an April Fool’s article originally written on April 1, 2009.
smrstrauss, Romney's records are irrelevant.
What Trump is no doubt attempting to demonstrate is that just as Obama claimed to be Kenyan born in order to promote his first book, it's worth checking to see if his passport and college records also say the same thing.
Don't you think it would be interesting if Obama's college application indicated that he was not born in America?
My guess is that Trump has reason to believe that one or both of these applications have that sort of information on them.
Cosmic Conservative said:
"Don't you think it would be interesting if Obama's college application indicated that he was not born in America?"
I would think it would be exactly as interesting if Romney's college application indicated that he was not born in America. The fact is that since the story that Obama applied to college as a foreign exchange student came from AN APRIL FOOL'S ARTICLE, there is absolutely no reason to believe it.
If you want to believe it, fine. But then recognize that there is exactly as much chance that Mitt Romney applied to college as a foreign student as Obama having applied to college as a foreign student. EXACTLY the same chance.
So, the offer should be made to both men.
smrstrauss,
You have no idea how to calculate odds. None whatsoever. Therefore, I'll offer you two bets, but you have to take me up on both.
Bet 1- I bet $10,000 that Romney's college applications list him as American, at 100-1 odds in your favor. I win, I get $100, you win, you get $10,000.
Bet 2. I bet $100. that Obama's college application list him as a foreign student, and you give me 50-1 odds. I win, I get $5,000. You win, you get $100. According to you, It's an absolute upside bet for you.
And I bet that a whole lot of people here would jump on my side of the bet, for the worst we can do is break even. Romney didn't register as a foreign student.
"AllenS said...

Because he would be offering then money to break the law, which would make him an accomplice.

(1) I bet that you would never pay off if you lost.
(2) I bet that neither candidate will show their college records.

Meanwhile, it stands to reason that there is some dirt, otherwise he wouldn't have fought it out as he has. I assume it's just poor grades as I don't rate his intelligence very highly; verbal fluency isn't intelligence, not that he has verbal fluency without a teleprompter.
Or maybe there's some disciplinary action, like for dealing drugs on campus. Who knows?
As for making the offer to both men, why didn't Larry Flynt offer money for dirt on Democratic candidates ?
Also, as for not paying off, you're the hit and run candidate here, Strauss. We've never seen you here before, and I'm sure we'll never see you again.
