He sounds quite "credible" about the topic about hiring contract killers - maybe he has had some experience?

I disagree about the size of his ego. He sounds like a very pragmatic type who cooly put himself in the place of the contract killers and did a quick assessment of the amount it would take to get the job done and done right.
He thinks like a lawyer. Picking the right professional and paying his fee does determine the outcome in many cases.
That's called not giving the bitch the satisfaction of seeing you even mildly perturbed by her attempt to make you miserable (or dead, in his case). Good on him.
He wins. Wins big, too - you could hardly have said anything as likely to infuriate the ex-wife as she catches the interview in the common room in the slammer.
Oh, I've heard of hits going for a lot less than that.
But, clearly, it just proves you get what you pay for.

The recession is tough on everyone. If two grand is the going rate, you really shouldn't pay more. Assuming, that is, you're still getting full service.
