Holy fucking shit. This is the most brutal attack ad I've seen in a long, long time. It minces the hell out of Romney's offshore fortunes and his record as a jobs exporter (in the private and public sectors). And it makes fun of Romney's singing voice, turning his version of "America, the Beautiful" into a symbol of his warped view of patriotism... This is just an incredible, devastating attack ad. I don't know if it's going to turn any hearts and minds to Obama, but it's going to sure as hell send the Romney campaign reeling. And the Obama campaign likes it when the Romney campaign is reeling. And he says this about the Romney ad:
It's weak sauce. First of all, you can't argue against negative campaigning in a negative ad. Second, both Romney and Obama have both used negative ads before, so this is nothing new. What this ad is complaining about is that Obama's negative ads are working. Here's the "brutal" Obama ad:
And here's the "weak sauce" Romney ad:
A few thoughts:
1. The Obama ad is nicely done artistically. It's different.
2. People generally experience Obama as more human than Romney. The new Obama ad undercuts efforts to portray Romney as plastic and robotic. Remember when Hillary Clinton got caught singing the National Anthem badly?
The impulse to use this clip to mock Hillary backfired. People tend to find sincere but bad singing endearing — and this can be especially good for a candidate who has been coming across as too controled. It's "a completely humanizing moment."
3. The Romney ad is much less striking. Unlike the Obama ad, it doesn't grab attention as a beautifully crafted short film. It looks do-it-yourself and webby. There's humility to it. Just wondering what happened to the hope, you know. It oddly resonates with the Obama ad that tries to humiliate Romney for singing badly. America is oriented — generally — toward liking Obama, the man. That's a mysterious process. Hard to see exactly why it happened and how it could be reversed. Obama is relying on it... and relying on the seeming impossibility that anyone could love Romney. The Romney ad very gently tries to undermine the love. He gave us hope. Where is the hope?

Nobody tells Jay Gatsby how many years of tax returns to release.
Since Gatsby was a man whose past was a fiction of his own creation and whose business associates were unscrupulous and unsavory, I can only infer that you're talking about Obama.
In which case you should add "university transcripts and medical records" to the list of unreleased documents.
---Matthew Sablan "Why does that worldwide recession matter?"
Geee, now there's well thought out comment.
If Obama is so instrumental in righting the economic ship, explain why the rest of the world, with few exceptions, is having the same kinds of economic problems (and much worse in some case) as America? Suddenly ALL of the leaders of all of these other countries have forgotten how to run the show?
And please...what would possible make you think any president could straighten this kind of situation (biggest recession since the Great Depression) in 3.5 years...with the party Of "NO" stopping or stalling literally ANYTHING proposed?---
The economy isn't moving because he damaged it.
As to Zerope - they'be been free-riding on US for decades.
We're broke, they're exposed.
DEMOCRAT HARRY REID'S SENATE hasn't issued a budget in over 3 years.
Not the pubbies fault.
phx: I could care less about Obama's grades because I already know what to expect. A guy who has written two autobiographies before he is fifty and hasn't told us about his grades is hiding something. His ego is large enough I expect we would have been treated to them a long time ago if they were worth a shit.
The average voter does not know the difference between a capital gains tax and ordinary income. Thus they are very easily manipulated on this topic. Far better to produce what you have to produce and not one page more than that.
Romney could trade his full tax returns for Obama's full transcripts plus his medical records. That might be a fun thing to see. Give us all lots to talk about.
Now phx, you can have your little "nobody cares but the TP", and you can hold on to your faith that Romney's tax returns are going to cost him the election.
But you can't keep claiming that Romney is the Gatsby figure in this election, cuz that's just plain wrong.

COLORADO:

VIRGINIA:

Obama 46 -- Romney 44.
Note: that isn't Raz.
Note 2: You need the sweet comfort of lies to hold your political beliefs.
phx revealed: The onus is on Gatsby.
WTF do Gatsby and Scrooge McDuck have in common?
Phx. You are quite wrong. Obama's grades were shit. People would find it interesting that a prep schooler could do so poorly and yet find himself advancing through the best of schools. You have, of course, seen some of his writing before it was edited by kindly editors. Very weak. Very very weak.
Phx. Dont belong to the tp and dont know anyone who does. But a guy with such a deep love of himself that he writes two autobiographies before he is fifty is a guy who would let you kow if he aced the SATs. He is not loaded with humility.
Phx is right, without Obama the automotive companies would be as broke as Ford right now....
Oh, wait.
Look, Romney lost the election last week. He has claimed that he is the business man who knows how to fix the economy, but we are just gonna have to trust him. Just trust him, no tax returns, no info on what exactly he was doing [yes, no, maybe a CEO], just trust. He's got tons of money off shore, gaming the system in a totally legal way,but ick, just too Thurston Howell the third. Well Obama is gonna win because most people would rather have a beer with Obama. Remember when that was one of the crazy winning factors for Bush?
Thurston Howell the third
Except Thurston Howell III had a personality lol.
mittens can only dream of such a persona ...
The party of NO is preventing Obama from solving the economic problems that are global in scope and beyond the capacity of any single national leader to solve.
And, how exactly do you think that Obama could have done so? Please be specific as to the initiatives and programs that you think would have helped the economy that the Republicans blocked. Are you claiming that $5+ trillion of borrowed money was not enough? That over a trillion a year in spending over revenue was not enough?
The release of Romney's tax returns is going to be interesting to watch. I expect that we will ultimately see them back to maybe 2008, and two years is pretty much the norm for Presidential candidates.
Why don't I think there are smoking guns in those tax returns? Because he knew that he was going to run for President in 2012, after losing to McCain, and McCain losing to Obama, in 2008.
Romney indicated over the weekend that 2011 would ultimately be released, but given the number of pages, it would take awhile. Why is this a priority? Because the Dems and their MSM enablers are so desperate to talk about anything except Obama's performance in office. Anything to change the subject.
But, while we are on the subject of transparency, how about the Obama Administration's handling of Fast and Furious. And, as I pointed out above, two years is the standard. The reality is that the Dems are looking to play gotcha with Romney's tax returns, and haven't found anything yet, so are likely to want more and more of them, until they find something, anything.
Again, Romney called it this week, that the purpose of this push for more of his tax returns was to change the subject from how miserably and horribly the Obama Administration has done over the last 3 1/2 years, esp. economically, but also overall, including totally botching the Arab Spring, the most corrupt AG and DoJ of most of our lifetimes, etc.
And, notice our liberal trolls on this thread - invariably condemning Romney for his tax returns, for being a felon, etc., without even addressing the reality that Obama's Administration has been an abject failure on almost all levels. Obama has an exceedingly bad record, and that what they are trying to change everyone's focus away from.
What I found interesting though is that Trump this last weekend was pushing the quid pro quod of trading Romney's tax returns for Obama's school records. He is enough of a loose cannon that the Romney people have plausible deniability here.
What is Obama hiding? Someone above suggested bad grades. That was my guess initially, but my guess right now is that it is that Obama attended college as a foreign student. Not that he actually was, but rather, that he claimed to be such to get even more preferential treatment than if he had merely been half-black.
Keep in mind that Presidential candidates in recent memory always release their school records, just as they disclose two years of tax returns. Only Obama has failed to do so. What is he hiding? (And, what is he hiding with his assertion of Executive Privilege in the Fast and Furious scandal?)

Frankly, I think that you are delusional. But, I will agree with the beer part, since Romney as a devout Mormon doesn't drink. But, McCain lost, and I think that a distinct majority of the voting public probably would prefer having a beer with him, over having one with Obama.
You are asking why anyone should trust Romney. The better question though is why anyone should trust Obama. After 3 1/2 years of abject failure, squandering of trillions of dollars, much being shoveled to political supporters, with the most corrupt and inept Administration in recent memory, why we would or should trust him to do better his second term. As he pointed out to Putin, he will have a lot more flexibility his second term, and that should scare the fecal matter out of most of us. Second terms are almost invariably worse than first terms, and that one of the big reasons is that the President will never, and can never, run again, so he has far less accountability.
Just like we are left speculating why Kerry refused to release his military records, we are left wondering why the most transparent President ever is still hiding his school records, and why he invoked Executive Privilege in the Fast and Furious scandal. What is he hiding?
Hey shithead:
A recent EPIC-MRA poll of likely Michigan voters showed Romney with a slender lead over Obama, 46 percent to 45 percent.
Just trust him, no tax returns, no info on what exactly he was doing [yes, no, maybe a CEO], just trust.
I think you should go on pretending Romney hasn't released any tax returns.
Really. You should.
