"In an embarrassing blunder, Romney's campaign misspelled the word 'America' on its new 'With Mitt' iPhone app, launched Tuesday."

Let's replace the war on words with the freedom of expressions, cast a spell on the spell checkers, spoof the proofers, and enjoy life, such as it is.
A universe of colors in a single drop of water
An enticing world of pleasures in a single woman's laughter,
What befell the colors when the drop fell to the ground?
What became of the joyfulness, of that indelible sound?
Red and kins went searching for another drop of life
The lovely lady went merging to become a trophy wife.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

@MadMan, it's only Democrats who spell it with K's, and they use three of them.

Good thing this gaffe comes early. What Mitt has to do now is fire whomever is responsible for the gaffe, so as to concentrate the minds of the rest of his staff.

The next thing is to make sure someone who's at least 50 years old proof-reads everything that the campaign produces -- too many people, even some in their forties but nearly everyone in their thirties or younger, is simply too used to spell-check taking care of things for them.

cwj: I do understand the Polish sensitivity to the subject--my point was that these kinds of gaffes occur with some regularity--but given the state of the US economy, DOJ's fast and furious program, and now Obama's kill list, are these the issues upon which we want to select our president?

Big Mike म्हणाले...

Sorry guys, but Obama's "gaffe" about Polish death camps isn't a gaffe. I think everyone who heard it understood him to mean a Nazi death camp located in Poland.

Obama commits enough true gaffes that this one isn't worth the time to follow up on.

But this gaffe by Romney's campaign is more serious since it indicates that his staff doesn't double check things carefully. Obama's staff doesn't either, but the notion that Romney's campaign staff is no worse than Obama's in that regard is pretty low standard.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

is a pretty low standard.

From a Nazi's point of view, the Death Camps in Poland are our Polish Death Camps.

Given a little more time, the Third Reich had its plans for American Death Camps as soon as the Jew Lover Roosevelt could be incinerated by the nuclear fission device they planned to deliver over the Atlantic by their new long range bomber.

It was a close call. And after the Bulge, Patton's Third Army was sent straight into Bavaria where the Nazi Atomic Weapons Research was known to be based.

Matt Sablan म्हणाले...

I understood he meant to say that these were death camps that happened to be geographically located in Poland.

But, you know, if Bush had said it. So, I won't dog pile on him for the slip. But, I'm also not planning to ride to anyone's defense over it, either.

I knew exactly what he was saying when he said it. However, POTUS is from the side that thrives not only the perpetually aggrieved, but brought us political correctness.

If the Poles believe they were harmed, by using the guidelines of the above-mentioned world view, then they were harmed.

Not really.

After the Norwegian spec ops guys raided the heavy water plant at Vermork, the German atomic program pretty much stagnated.

It was an obsession in the Allied High Command - and I believe that was more 7th Army than 3rd, but people tend to attribute everything that happened in Northern Europe to Patton the same way the attribute everything that happened in the Pacific to the Marines.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

@Scott and @Matthew, you're right of course. But to the extent that there's a gaffe it belongs to administration spokesman Tommy Vietor, who said that Obama "misspoke" and further described Obama's words as a "misstatement." The English is only mildly ambiguous, relying as it does on the background knowledge that death camps were set up and operated by Germans. That's what "smart diplomacy" should have done.

If the administration's spokespeople aren't going to stick up for Obama, then for whom does it stick up.

No, it's a typo.
The Polish death camp remark was a blunder. Romney saying he likes to be able to fire people was a blunder.

A gaffe is when a pol inadvertently tells the truth and damages himself or others. Joe Biden is famous for that.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Roger J...The idea of a few Nazi's hiding out in the mountains was a weak cover story to tell the USSR who were busy losing 100,000 casualties taking Berlin and Hitler while Patton scoffed up the research, the scientists and probably some fissile materials for shipment home until three months later when they reappeared in a bright flash on August 6, 1945.

Roger J. म्हणाले...

Trad guy--I am simply not conversant enough about the combines chiefs of staff strategy--but as I read your post, are you suggesting the US used fissile materials from germany for the atomic weapons? I do agree that Nazi scientists were primary targets for the US forces, but fissile materials seems to me to be a bit of a stretch.

edutcher म्हणाले...

tg, you need to stop reading the Lyndon LaRouche history of WWII.

Seriously.

Roger, you can look up the National Redoubt and get an eyeful of how the Americans thought that was going to be their pivotal last fight (instead of the Ruhr Pocket, as things turned out).

If there had been that much fissile material, we'd have seen a dirty bomb (or bombs) dropped on 12th and 6th Army Groups.

अनामित म्हणाले...

sakredkow म्हणाले...

Just for the record I honestly don't think sane people are looking at these kind of gaffes with any interest at all.

These aren't stupid men, but the cameras are on them all the time.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Edutcher...believe who you want to. The Propaganda surrounding the Bomb has never been corrected.

That is the one area where lying to the people was justified at the time. And why drag that up today?

But the Germans who built V2 Missiles, the Jet Fighter Bombers and were working 24/7 on a super weapon to change the war's outcome did not simply quit the U-235 Bomb race. Whoever Lyndon larouche is, that is still the likely truth that explains everything else.

As for German fissile material, the Manhattan Project's biggest worry was that Japan would learn we only had enough fissile material for 2 bombs.

But by late July, the Los Alamos men changed that story and said 6 more bombs could be delivered with a few weeks assembly time, if needed.

edutcher म्हणाले...

tg, agree with you on the Manhattan Project's biggest worry, but the rest is just out there.

The destruction of the heavy water plants killed Germany's nuclear research.

The supply of extra A-bombs was in regard to the Downfall landings, which wouldn't have started until November at the earliest, where they were intended to be used tactically.

Rusty म्हणाले...

Given a little more time, the Third Reich had its plans for American Death Camps as soon as the Jew Lover Roosevelt could be incinerated by the nuclear fission device they planned to deliver over the Atlantic by their new long range bomber.

Hitler gave up on a long range bomber early in the war in order to concentrate on the A3(V2). A long range bomber used too many human resources that Germany could not spare.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Rusty...How many workers were needed for a building a few bombers using those plans?

Edutcher...I don't know who to believe. But the Hanford plant and the Oak Ridge Plant had only made enough for one bomb apiece after operating 18 months. Then the supply turned into 6 more as fast as the Los Alamos guys could do the hardware by mid August.

Patton was sent home in May for a California visit supposedly for War Bonds and then was as quickly sent back to Germany as Militery Governor of Bavaria.

I suspect Patton knew what he brought with him, and that knowledge made him free to discuss restarting the war against the the Russians while we had surplus bombs.

Patton was then very likely assassinated for his knowledge in a mysterious death in the hospital following a mysterious low speed auto fender bender that hurt no one except Patton's neck while he was riding in the back seat.

Scott M म्हणाले...

Was Patton wearing a hoodie at the time? Where was George Zimmerman on December 9th, 1945.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

I believe Patton was wearing his ivory handled 45s. But I was only 6 mos old and I forget what Patton was up to that day.

My guess is that Eisenhower was was planning his Presidency then, and after his entire Headquarters had screwed up the Ardennes counterattck. Ike did not want Patton challenging him with what he had done when he refused to allow Patton to cut off the bulge forces. Instead Ike made a low on ammunition and stocked with new recruits Army use the worst tactic known to modern war which was to charge the entrenched enemy in 3 months of frontal assaults so the Newspapers/Newsreels at home would show pictures of Eisenhower pushing the buldge back daily until he restored the old lines, like the offensive was no big deal and never had any effect.
