Who threw all that popcorn on the floor?

Howl, howl, howl, howl!
O, you are men of stone [glass].
Had I your tongues and eyes,
I'ld use them so
That heaven's vault should crack.

The wear suggests it was a well loved toy.

Don't howl. You'll get the pups all stirred up.

And the trolls.

TosaGuy বলেছেন...

I am howling with glee!

Got my property tax bill numbers today. A $16 increase. First time in 10 years where it has not gone up triple digits. All while without noticable changes in school and city services. Thank you, Governor Walker

That dog has a poker face. I want my dog to be emotional to make up for my poker face.

A few weeks ago I read the Velveteen Rabbit to my daughter (first time for both of us; it was free on Kindle). I'll be damned if I didn't get a lump in my throat at the end of it. What a great kids' story.

Thank Barney Frank, Congress, Fannie Mae, the fools at Countrywide and their respective sidekicks too.

They are the ones who dropped the value of your house so you can get a $16 increase in taxes and be gleeful.

Toad Trend বলেছেন...

It looks worn, but structurally sound. Cute puppy. Must be some child's beloved toy.

When I see something like this I think either 'Febreze' or 'washing machine'. Why did you think 'howl' for this? Did you steal it from a child?

Known Unknown বলেছেন...

I got it: Pre-worn stuffed animals.

Like jeans.

I could call them 'Pre-Loved' or some BS.

Awww.. cute widdle doggie doll. :)

And I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him and call him George!...

"They are the ones who dropped the value of your house so you can get a $16 increase in taxes and be gleeful."

Don't get me wrong, WI property taxes are still out of control and the crew you mentioned has cost us all alot of money. The value of my house was not why my property taxes went up in the past years, it was the increase in the property tax levy by the various local governments that subsist off my property tax levy. They were forced to live within their means. I'll take small victories when I can get them.

I had a similar dog toy. My godmother gave it to me when I was about two years old.

A few years later, my Dad and I returned one morning from our weekly, Sunday trip to Brookfield Zoo. My Mom greeted us at the door and announced that the dog toy had passed to the other side. She had tried to wash it in the Maytag; the dog toy disintegrated in the suds.

I still give her a hard time about it. I have the other precious stuffed animals in a box, but I miss the dog toy the most.

I some states, a $16 hike in property taxes would equate to a massive percentage increase. In Wisconsin, it's a rounding error.

I'm wondering what mine will be. Middleton's goes up 10+% this year -- infrastructure expansion finally has to be paid for.

The local Tech College had a referendum pass last year, so that's a hike. (City, School and County are rolled into one here).

Here I stand, a beaten dog,
Old, bedraggled, musty;
No more can I get close to kids,
Just like Jerry Sandusky.

Or scoot on the carpet.

I believe that toy is older than I am. Maybe my mother's. Probably dates back to the 1920s, I would guess.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

As for the popcorn... I chose that carpet because I liked the popcorn look. It was kind of expensive, but believe it or not, it has lasted nearly 20 years! It still looks almost new in all but a few spots.

I don't really like carpeting, and I want to replace it with hardwood, but that's a big project, so... the carpet is about to enter its 3d decade.

TosaGuy বলেছেন...

My folks had 20-something year old carpet in their living room and it was showing its age so they put in hardwood -- real birdseye hickory, not that laminate crap. They were around when it was installed to keep an eye on things (my dad used to teach wood shop) and then left for a week while the crew put finish on it. It's not the most pleasant stuff to smell for a few days.

I just put 1,000 sf in my woodshop...and that included a vapor barrier over the concrete slab, a subfloor tapconed into the slab, and T&G oak flooring in three days. Hell, Meade and I could knock it out over a weekend ;-)

Actually, quality laminates in almost every way are better than hardwood flooring. They are much more stable. Don't check or crack. Where they especially shine is in the top coat. They have a catalyzed topcoat from the factory that is many times more durable than anything that can be applied in the field .

And birdseye hickory? Never heard of it. "Birdseye" is often associated with maple, and sometimes cherry. It is very expensive and is not used for flooring...one because of expense, two because it's too "busy", three it's very hard to mill correctly, and four it's even rarer to provide in larger pieces.

My dad had a toy dog like that, only a bulldog. As I remember, it had kind of a scratchy feel. Same kind of legs, though. I always assumed it came out of the '30's, as that's the decade he was born. I have no idea whatever became of it.

Ten years ago we took up the carpet on our ground floor and found beautiful red oak floors. Fifty year old house. Had them refinished. All due respect to our own DBQ you have to get used to dust bunnies unless you want to swiffer every two days. Definitely more noise when all five grand kids are here. But we still like it.

Freeman Hunt বলেছেন...

I love the look of hardwood, but I do not love living on it, so I have carpet.

ricpic বলেছেন...

Screw the aesthetics, from October to April carpet beats hardwood going away.

I have hardwood throughout my 90 y/o bungalow. And a cat. I hear ya.

I get hard wood looking @ plush carpet. If it lasted that long there must be a Japenese no shoe policy in effect.

Speaking of chchchchah-new-kah, I love my new Robert Sabuda pop-up book Chanukah Lights.

Much of the book is architectural and in my copy the first building needs a little help sliding up the columns to expand and a little push returning but it is altogether a treasure.

The whole time I was flipping through it looking for the tiny candle in the window on each page, I was thinking to myself, "Cheese and crackers, this would make a great gift to a Jewish person." and then I continued thinking, "and only $23.00, a 34% savings off retail price." Which made me feel very well chuffed inside and then I thought, "and it's all so easy through the Amazon portal right here where I hang."

There is a video of the book in action over there on Amazon so you can see for yourself what I'm on about but I must not link it from here because you will surely want to buy it immediately.

If it's the one I found, it's really beautiful. I think I'll send one to Obama.

Me, I'm howling. My humble living space has been invaded five years now by noises coming from below me. Time for action. Legal action. The worst is when people say, you live in a city, what do you expect?
