Security for Gov. Scott Walker costs twice what it cost to protect the previous Wisconsin Governor.

The Milwaukee State Journal reports:
David Erwin, a captain in the State Patrol and the head of the unit that protects the governor, said the threats against Walker have reached a new level. State officials declined to discuss those threats or the governor's security in any detail because they said it might put him at risk.

"Any threats targeting the governor, his family and the lieutenant governor are not comparable to past administrations. Because of the increased threat level, for the first time we need to provide security at this level for the (lieutenant governor) and the governor's family," said a statement by Erwin, who also led the unit when [Jim] Doyle was governor....
Walker, a Republican, has been demonized by his opponents, because of his approach to fixing the state budget, which included withdrawing some collective bargaining rights for some government employees. Doyle, for what it's worth, was a Democrat.
The state has also paid nearly $8.2 million for increased law enforcement at the Capitol this year in the midst of massive demonstrations over the union legislation, according to the Legislative Fiscal Bureau....

Where are the editorials condemning the Climate of Hate?

On Facebook, my leftist "friends" often muse over how great it would be if their particularly hated Republican villain were dispatched with a bullet to the head.

The left is tolerant of everything, except for disagreement with any of their ideas.

Why will that be important, won’t the taxes paid by the State Employees suffice and replace their taxes?

Not long after the last private employee leaves Ohio, the lights will go out on their own.

Security for Gov. Scott Walker costs twice what it cost to protect the previous Wisconsin Governor.

That's what democracy looks like, right? Right?

CC...and Doyle, for what it's worth, didn't take a hard left upon coming into office.

And where is the frothing at the actual violence of the Occupy movement? So many people got in an absolute tizzy last year about the "potential" for violence of the Tea Party movement, which even at the time but especially now, can be seen to be much ado about nothing. The Tea Party came, held up their signs, made speeches, didn't block anything, cleaned up, and went home. The Occupy movement is perpetrating (and even more importantly, advocating) real violence and the silence of those that got the vapors over the Tea Party is deafening.

The left is just very immature. And the fact that the state of Wisconsin has to use extra taxpayer money to protect a legitmately elected governor from them when it could use that money somewhere else (as it did when a Democrat was in power) is a shame and a black mark on them. And yet they're the ones that hold themselves up as tolerant and the role models for the future. Yeah, sure, right.

Isn't this good? For the police who received overtime pay that is?

Two words: Open Carry. Might I suggest for the Governor a nice vintage over and under LaMatt revolver? In a pinch, a ball and cap 45 cal. blued Navy Colt revolver would look look sartorial too. Oh wait, y'all don't live in the south...

Ohio should also replace Gov. Kasich with Joe Paterno.

And, you'll notice, the media has succeeded in romanticizing and promoting the OWS, and at the same time pushing the Tea Party into the shadows.

The Tea Party is still out there, and still drawing big crowds to its organizational events, but you wouldn't know it, would you?

Pamela Geller over at Atlas Shrugs continues to cover Tea Party events.

But look what YOU got for the $8.2 million. YOU got tons of content for the blog, and you were serenaded with banging on bongos and endless melodic chants about what democracy looks like.

But if you're a dairy farmer out in the sticks trying to scratch out an honest living, the only thing the privileged chanters and bongo beaters of Madison gave you was the bill.

There's a disconnect between the headline and the content of the article.

Yes, security costs have increased, but how much is from actual work and how much is from the fact that Walker has two places that require protection and young sons? Frankly, I presume the Governor and his family has 24/7 protection regardless and there's no real evidence of additional protection beyond that needed for his larger family in the article. You add a detail for two sons and a second home and of course security costs are going to increase.

Frankly, this looks like an exercise in sensationalism as much as a story.

SGT Ted म्हणाले...

Send the bill to the unions. OR offset the 20 mil for security with 20 mil taken from the education budget.

Exactly. Another gift to the taxpayers from the union slugs.

Disagree on both parts. People hate the Occupation and "pushing the Tea Party into the shadows" means the slime campaign is on hold. If anything, the media is trying to paint the Occupation as the Lefties' tea Party, which is really going flat.

that is mentioned in the article, but only mentioned. There's never a breakdown on exactly how both things have driven the increase.

If it is criminal and morally repugnant to threaten someone's life, then the blame for the cost ought to go toward the threateners, wouldn't you say? People like Regan Cowan?

So...Walker has his life threatened because your ilk tends to like to use violence when the vote goes against you --- and it's HIS fault?

That's insane.

Taffy Apple, you are a piece of work. What damikesc said is on the mark. Walker is being threatened by the side of the political spectrum you so proudly identify with, and you come up with the abysmally stupid accusation that it is his fault.
