Remontant foxglove.

That's the first thing we notice upon leaving the house today. We drive over to the east side of town to check out the signs...

... and get some coffee....

Waiting for my small cappuccino, I have plenty of time to read the parody lyrics taped to the espresso machine.

So, the coffee shop was mixing politics with business? Are they attempting to intimidate those that might be sympathetic with Walker?

No soup for you!!

YoungHegelian বলেছেন...

Ya know, one doesn't have to be religious to be preachy.

What a dorky thing for a retail business to do!

— adj
1. (esp of cultivated roses) flowering more than once in a single season

{new word for me}..

This the east side of Madison, people. No problem with their clientele for the lyrics!

rhhardin বলেছেন...

The accents are badly wrong on

"Tea Party"

"yard signs"

"block parties"

It's more than rhyme.

I recommend a study of Schubert.

ndspinelli বলেছেন...

Are you aware 72% of people pronounce it "expresso."

wv: hygen..an i and e short of hygiene.

Wince বলেছেন...

Free speech, sure.

But I wonder how many code violations city licensing officials would suddenly find in that coffee shop if the politics espoused in those parody lyrics were of the opposite persuasion?

That’s the truly ugly and pernicious side of all this.

Chip S. বলেছেন...

I recommend a study of Schubert.

Sunny Schubert, perhaps. Their ideas need more work than their meter.

I thought it was a nice change to see a little bit of humor among the lefties, instead of unimaginative shit like "Oust Weasel Walker."

I think it was from my son, John, that I learned the word is also used in music - for a phrase repeated in a later movement - an aural reblooming.

paminwi said, "This the east side of Madison, people. No problem with their clientele for the lyrics!"

Exactly! It's also Tammy Baldwin land. Or it was. When Tammy still lived in Wisconsin.

Never mind the foxglove, Madison is the swastika capitol of America. What kind of sick educational system produces the kind of dregs who use the swastika as a protest emblem of first resort? The Wisconsin system? Fuck them all. Teachers, students, Union shitbirds, supportive passers-by, whoever. They all suck.

I worked my way through college as a weasel walker. Lots of woolgathering women find they don't have time to walk their weasels, what with window washing, weight watchers, and watching winsome wenches.

Walker would be a cute name for a ferret, if one wanted a ferret, which I don't.

If I'm not mistaken that house is on Orton Park, and they don't serve coffee. But yeah, definitely not Walker Country on that side of town. Some beautiful homes lakeside though in that area.

bagoh20 বলেছেন...

Ah yes "remontant" - like elections in Wisconsin.

edutcher বলেছেন...

Do they even think about how much business they lose with a sign like that?

Nah!

That's for all those greedy Republicans.

Anent the lyrics - a parody in and of themselves, BTW - have the morons that composed them taken a good look at the news in the last year or so?

Insider trading by Pelosi Galore and Lurch

Solyndra

Yeah, those wealthy guys' deals behind closed doors buying Senate votes for their corporations' majesty.

Was the coffee free?

What's with the german theme "oust" ... outside?

I gather the lines waiting for coffee were rather short, though, huh?

This sort of vicious bigotry can be found around many universities. For instance, I've seen truly ugly cartoons of Palin posted on the walls of eateries around UT Austin. Ignorance, servile conformity, and violent fantasy is what higher education is all about.

Madison has a liberal east side too? Providence, RI salutes you!

garage mahal বলেছেন...

Do they even think about how much business they lose with a sign like that?

It's a private house, I'm almost sure of it now. The owners let me park in their driveway momentarily once during the Orton Park Festival. This Tudor is on some register of historical places.

Is that EVP Coffee? EVP stands for "Etes-Vous Prets?" which is apparently used in rowing just before the race starts.

The people around here pronounce it "Ay Vou Pray", which is, of course, almost completely wrong. I'm not sure if it's also pronounced that way in rowing, though.

The chain was founded by an ex-UW rower, who says on the website that the name was shortened to EVP because so few people knew how to pronounce the phrase. Including her, apparently.

Petunia বলেছেন...

Also, those parody lyrics are incredibly lame.

Carnifex বলেছেন...

The proper term is Dacha. Ohh! this is still Americka. Where its okay for Libtards to make jokerize Republican presidents but its RACIST to do the same to Democrat presidents. Where it's okay for leftist to call a conservative "Hitler", but not point out the National Socialist supporting them. And where black conservatives can be called "house nigger" and "Uncle Tom", but you can't point out that the revered leaders of the democrat party were ensconced in eugenic philosophy, and had the Grand Dragon of the KKK as their elder statesman.

Herman Cain has twice as many black parents as Barry Soetoro.

OWS loudly supported by the American Nazi Party, and the American Communist Party, and the AFL-CIO, and the SEIU, etc...

Robert Byrd D-WV loved "nigra's", he thought everyone ought to own one or two.

And wasn't our great Veep that said of Barry "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean"

Petunia
My guess is Just Coffee. I pronounce that as Just Coffee.

You might be right, Garage, but I was looking at the picture of the counter, and the t-shirt hanging in the background looks like it has the EVP logo on it.

I don't drink coffee so I don't patronize EVP, but the mispronunciation thing just bugs me. :)

garage mahal বলেছেন...

Yea that pronunciation of EVP would annoy me too. Why not just say "EVP"?

Petunia বলেছেন...

Well, the website does say they shortened the name to just the initials, so I suppose most people call it EVP. I'd like to know how the phrase is pronounced in rowing.

Carnifex বলেছেন...

I knew I saw this somewhere

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck." — Robert A. Heinlein

ricpic বলেছেন...

It does no good, Carnifex, people who live in comfort, more accurately people who are born into comfort, can't stand it and do everything in their power to tear it down. That's the big picture behind all the little temper tantrums disguised as idealistic actions. The essential decency of the United States drives them mad. And there's no reasoning with it, this compulsion to tear down and tear apart. Destination third world. But first the ecstasy of destroying everything orderly and good.

garage mahal বলেছেন...

Walker and his crew are the ones responsible for tearing down and tearing apart long held institutions and practices. His foes are trying to save it. So who are the true conservatives?

Nice bit of projection there though, ricpic.

Chip S. বলেছেন...

Walker and his crew are the ones responsible for tearing down and tearing apart long held institutions and practices.

That's an interestingly Burkean argument, garage. Good for you.

But I think the Walkerian viewpoint is that those "long held institutions" (going all the way back to 1959) gave rise to budgetary practices that have proven to be unsustainable.

I like too strong coffee and I like too hot coffee. But I prefer to make it myself because then it isn't too pricey coffee.

We stopped in at EVP because that was where we said we would meet again next time with Ben Masel and Dennis just after having a delightful conversation with them, two weeks before Ben died much too young.

So we remembered Ben (and Dennis) while having a coffee and conversation in his favorite old coffee shop.
