If you read Barbara Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror" you might not think those shoes so awesome. They're a throwback to the 14th century and were considered by her a sign of societal decay and depravity among the idle privileged youth. I tend to agree.
It's a perfect metaphor for the type of men who will now be allowed in the Marine Corps.

Some of my best memories from the first 14 years of my life (especially the earlier ones) had to do with farms, county fairs, country fairs&so forth. Now so many of the people associated with that are dead, including among them some of the closest.
But I remember. And that's good. I'm grateful both for the past experiences *and* the memories.

Mexican immigration may be what we need to keep "societal decay" at bay.
Mexicans have extremely strong families. If a Mexican is in the hospital, the room is full of family. Old folks are taken care of at home.
Work ethic? check.
Exceptions to the rule? Sure. But they are exceptions.
Automobile insurance is an improvement opportunity.

We saw a lot of them at St Patrick's Day in Albuquerque a few years ago.
But then many of them probably have some Irish ancestry.
