As long as we're talking about Presidents and their bikes...

Some photos...

Yeah, "Please Do Not Touch or Take Photos." I didn't take these photos. I've never even been to Kennebunkport where you can touch see these things.

Sweet bike. Way too advanced for Barry though.

I thought 'sweet bike', too. Yeah, I don't think he's the mountain biking type.

Why the hell can't you take a picture?

Meade বলেছেন...

National security.

MadisonMan বলেছেন...

Exactly what I was thinking. I can understand please don't touch. But no pictures?

Valuable mountain-bike technology secrets could be compromised.

I mean, duh.

Hey Meade/Prof, sorry I missed you when you were in Indy otherwise I would have bought you a couple of beers at my favorite establishment. Was down for the bike extravaganza and had much fun.

@Hoosier Sorry too. We were there for a wedding and didn't really get to do much. A little photo walk... a little room service breakfast at Conrad...

Trek...a fine Wisconsin company.

Ah I see. Well next time you're in town you need to check out Mass Ave and then head down to Broadripple. Some great places for eats and beers.

Nice bike.

I miss W.

At the USS Constitution museum in Charleston, Massachusetts, photos aren't allowed. But you can take pictures aboard the actual ship as well as in the display section of the Navy building nearby. Go figure.

Don't take photos. Why? There isn't any national security secret there. The fact that it's bright red makes it a bigger target. If you made it out of kevlar so it was bulletproof, that doesn't do any good either.

A secret place to stash a GPS transmitter, and super-secret comm device? Just carry a cell phone.

If you can take a photo of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre (and you can, or at least you could, because I once did), you should be able to take a picture of a dumb bike, for heavens sake.

I am pretty sure that most Treks are actually manufactured in China.

Bush rode mountain bikes as a serious workout activity, especially when he was told to stop running on his knees (and I feel his pain). Obama rides bikes as a family/social activity.

Both are perfectly activities, but lord can't someone set up Obama so that he does not look dorkier than Urkel?

The presidential race COULD just be a 26-mile bike race.

It would save us all the blather. We'd end up with Lance Armstrong as president.

Would that be worse than what we've got?

Manly bike dressed for early-rise 3am trips to the store.

Dude, that is a sweet looking bike.

Bike envy.

PS - The Bush one, not Teh w0n one.

WV=sator. No comment necessary.

@holdfast: "I am pretty sure that most Treks are actually manufactured in China."

The cheap ones are, the good ones are handmade in the USA, with a lot of parts from the EU, Canada, Japan and, of course, China.

Looks like a common error on the label -- if the frame was "assembled, maintained and stored" in 2009, it was not for the President -- the US has only one President at a time. The proper title for Bush now is "Governor."

So what is William Jefferson Clinton called?

What was Ronald Readan called?

Just wondering.

JAL বলেছেন...

Reagan.

Not spell checking back there.

former law student বলেছেন...

Carter, Reagan, and Clinton were also to be addressed as Governor. Bush Sr. could be referred to as Congreesman or Ambassador, or plain old Mr. Bush, as former president Jefferson preferred.

JAL বলেছেন...

fls Carter, Reagan, and Clinton were also to be addressed as Governor.

Not asking you what they "were also to be addressed as.."

Asking what they *are* addressed as. Usually "Mr." but ...

"I (Democrat Sestak) told President Clinton...." (NY Times)

Curious ... when have you ever heard / seen Bill Clinton referred to as Governor Clinton except in the WaPo article? Governor Carter?

IIRC there is only one governor of Arkansas and Florida at a time....

It is commonly done as "former President Clinton/Bush/Carter." Then Mr. Clinton/Bush/Carter.

Be sure and send Kennebunckport a correction.

(BTW -- it's possible that he rode the bike in 2008 since the "2010" frame replaced the "2009 Model" in the Fall of 2009. Apparently dated something like cars.)
