"... life used to be so hard... now everything is easy 'cause of you..."
It's "Our House," the Helen Reddy version.
ADDED: I can't assume you know the lyrics to the songs I know, can I? The point of this post is that Helen Reddy changed the cats to dogs. I can't even begin to hope that you share my sense of humor about that unless you realize that happened.

I really liked her in "Pete's Dragon."

That was wonderful. Helen Reddy was the best female singer That I remember from the last 40 years. She is ok, I hope.
"life used to be so hard."
*sweet*
wv: slobs. Woof!
Trad guy: Good, yes, but so is Linda Ronstadt and so was Karen Carpenter. And, by the way the albums flew out of GC Murphy's in the 70's, so was Olivia Newton John.

I think Althouse just sneaked in a dedication to Meade.
Nice.
Ain't love grand!
There was always a whine in her voice that I couldn't take.
Ronstadt was OK, but Karen Carpenter was one of those voices that just took you in, not unlike Patsy Cline (different genres, I know, but both had the sweetest set of pipes...)

I know what she means. We seem to have have the 2 dogs in the yard meant for her, as well as our own, but, having faced life's onslaught alone and with someone, with is much better, with or without pups.
Kiss your husband, Mrs. Meade.
Kiss your wife Mr. Meade.
I hate it when singers dick around with lyrics for no reason. Doesn't Helen Reddy like pussycats?
Karen Carpenter was one of those voices that just took you in..
I loved Karen Carpenter.. her voice is irreplaceable.
listening to her right now.
The Carpenter's album with "I'm on top of the world" was the first album I ever bought. (In a store--I'd ordered a bagpipes album and Oklahoma cast album before that.)

It's a very very very fine House...but I digress and this isn't about me.
Wow, reflections on Helen Reddy music...that threw me down the memory hole. In fact, I had to stir my morning bones to find my old albums to look over the song lists. During the stretch of my life that I was a single mom, there were certain Helen Reddy songs that gave me peace and inspiration. The title and refrain of You And Me Against The World resonated as I tried to be a good parent for my daughter. The two songs Nothing Good Comes Easy and Long Time Looking were anthems as I struggled with dating and hoping to find that great special guy. The fates were kind and I have been blessed the past 33 years to be married a very wonderful man.
Right this minute, I love still having those old albums to hold in my hands. Yea for being a pack rat!
Professor is roaring about Helen Reddy.
(Sorry folks, not to be a "hater" but I could never stand Ms. Reddy. If you're going to sing about "roaring" then your voice should ROAR)
I've never liked Helen Reddy either. I updated this post to make it clear why I wrote it.
"I think Althouse just sneaked in a dedication to Meade."
"Used to be so hard" is not a good lyric to sing to a man.
Yeah., nor is "...now everything is yeasty 'cause of you..." to a woman.
The song subliminally helped make home bread-making become fashionable.
Nothing like a crusty loaf right out of the oven.
