"The United States is correct that it need not wait until people are killed before it arrests conspirators."

"But, the Defendants are also correct: their right to engage in hate-filled, venomous speech, is a right that deserves First Amendment protection."

"Their right to engage in hate-filled, venomous speech, is a right that deserves First Amendment protection.”

Since when does non-controversial speech require protection? It is ONLY the offensive speech, such as calling Mohammed a child molestor and false prophet ... or drawing him... that requires protection.

I'm reminded that the United States Supreme Court has a fresco on its facade that includes relief statues of all of the alleged prophets - including a sculpture of the alleged prophet Mohammed.

When they start bombing the court instead of Times Square, I hope the judges will managed the courage of their convictions.

Bill Clinton would never have made this sort of a rookie political mistake.

He'd have burned the Hutaree alive so a court couldn't embarass him by releasing them on their own recognizance.

The Hutaree ...makes me wonder if there shouldn't be a license to breed?

Christian Milita, eh?

Fortunately the Judge laid several restrictive requirements on the 9...still, who'd like them moving in next door? Keep in mind Mr McVeigh and Mr Nichols practiced with their explosives in rural Michigan, too. Then the Murragh Bld went boom and 160 odd folks died.

These meat-heads put my right to own and carry arms when necessary at risk for their own infantile selfish reasons.

Why are the Islamofacists who threatened the South Park guys running around free of these tethers?

"... makes me wonder if there shouldn't be a license to breed?"

That's hilarous. Because I was thinking the same thing about that pug Chelsea Clinton.

Ham -- Why can't you stick remotely to the topic at hand?

"Why can't you stick remotely to the topic at hand?"

Hmmmm. The topic is the Hutaree, and you're on about South Park? Seems like you're off-topic.

Dude, you write what you want to talk about and I'll discuss the Hutaree case and bitchslap any trolls who show up to make snide remarks about their breeding.

Ham -- In the thread below, you are talking about environmental disasters. In this one, you are talking about Chelsea Clinton.

Not deserves, but gets.

Judges are so judgmental.

I always wondered if was okay to yell "FIRE!!!" in an empty theater. Or conversely "NO FIRE!!" in a crowded theater.

New Hussein Ham said: "I'll discuss the Hutaree case and bitchslap any trolls who show up to make snide remarks about their breeding."

Oh, now I feel better. I take it you've spent some time with Hutaree type folks and find them okay?

Am I missing something?

I agree with Seven. There was no arrest of the punk who posted the "threat" in re the South Park show. A threat that shut down free expression over concerns about security and perceived violence.

Granting of bail is conditional on a judgment that the defendants will appear for trial and they pose no real evidential threat to life or property.

The judge ruled their speech alone, without any other corroborating evidence, poses no threat to human life or destruction of property.

He also imposed strict sanctions.

It remains to be seen if the judge is correct.

It is immaterial whether one agrees with the decision. This is the system we live under.

The judge also had the power to throw the case out if it was determined by the judge there is no probable cause or the government cannot prevail at trial.

Our system is not perfect- no justice system is. But, it is the best in the whole world.

chelsea clinton and environmental disasters reminds me of this classic onion headline.

Oh, so the Hutare thing was blown out of proportion and timed to smear Tea Partiers as some kind of dangerous right wing militia?

I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

The prosecutors also overreached when the yokels talked about blowing cops up with IEDs...as it turns out really broad language in Biden's 1994 bill describes any bomb or grenade as classifiable as a "deady WMD". With a 20-year to life sentence.

Federal law is at odds with what the public sees as real WMD or what the liberals themselves were screaming was "missing" from Iraq and showed "Bush lied"!

Who knew when I was 11 and built a bomb out of a fire extinguisher, sugar, bleach pills, and some guy who left an old can of black powder for guns on top of his full trash can....that I and my 3 pals aged 11-12 had entered into a conspiracy to manufacture a WMD and then detonate that WMD in the woods.

Fortunately, I guess it was before the Feds defined it as WMD terrorism.
Unlike the Hutaree, we actually built something and set it off.

And....it was....spectacular!

Left a crater, peeled bark halfway around and 3 feet up a tree we set it against, and we heard shrapnel dinging off rocks, but not the ones we were cowering behind.

It was a glorious day! Ran because we worried the cops might come it because it was massively loud.(they did!). Swore an oath of silence. Swore we would never do something that dangerous again. "That could have really really killed someone! Like the bombs they used in Vietnam! But it was really cool!"

Looks like the usual suspects' alter egos are jumping on this one.

Insta makes the point that the administration may have rushed the arrest to have a militia they could throw in front of the cameras when they needed a straw man.

Would The Zero and Holder do a thing like that?

Latest opportunist appears to be Bloomberg.

Meanwhile,

Federal authorities are closing in on the man they say is a person of interest in the Times Square car bomb attempt this weekend, who is described as a naturalized American citizen who hails from Pakistan and just returned after spending five months there.

Yeah, Mike, keep connecting those dots for us Morlocks.

I was struck by how open to judgement the charges might be:

All nine are charged with seditious conspiracy, attempting to use weapons of mass destruction and possession of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. David Stone and David Stone Jr. also are charged with teaching/demonstrating use of explosive materials.
