Know any Madisonites who are into phenology? I'm not sure if the unusual spring extends all the way to you folks in Madison, but this is shaping up to be a remarkable spring in the Twin Cities.

I've got plants that are two to three weeks ahead of schedule.

It's time to fertilize the lawn.

Serivceberries are good trees.

You planted a tree right under power lines?!?

A planted two serviceberries last fall (different cultivar than yours) and they haven't quite bloomed yet.

And I've got the same question as Big Mike. There are a lot of different serviceberry cultivars. Is yours destined to remain below the lines? The ones I planted will get columnar; quite tall but only 4 feet wide at the max.

peter - here in Madison, yes, things are blooming. Our hostas are 3" high, trees have been budding for about a week, but the lilacs haven't don't done much, yet. Yes, we seem ahead of schedule, here.

My cherry tree just opened yesterday. I hope we don't freeze this weekend :)

My lilacs usually open around Mother's day. We'll see this year. Ninth-warmest March and 10 degrees above normal for the 1st two weeks of April ought to speed things along.

We're a week ahead of you here in NE OH. As I said before, it looks like you live on a nice street. You feel as if you've come home.

The Kings of Spring in our area this week are the Flowering Pears.

Tall clouds of white blooms, emitting their distinctively peculiar fragrance. It's a spring tradition for MrM to complain about the damn cats urinating in the garage again before identifying the the real culprits.

Their beauty is worth the smell.
