I mentioned the meteor that was visible over WI last night. Here is a video from a cop car. Awesome!

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Wow MM. That is interesting. Did it just pass over Madison or actually land there?

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Damn, I was outside a fair amonut last night, but not at the right time, unfortunately.

Ohio's are yellow.

Who will be able to spot a bicycle?

I'll be the quiet, pensive one today at our own Tea Party protest demonstration today in Hackensack ;)

pm317 म्हणाले...

rhhardin, yes I can ..

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Lem, go to White Mana, eat about three dozen of their sliders (or what ever number you are comfortable with) and then tell us about it.

White Mana is awesome.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Did you get your flying low emission unicorn yet?

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

It landed somewhere west of WI, near as I can tell (or fizzled out). I missed seeing it live.

Meade म्हणाले...

Bicycle aimed left to right with pack over rear wheel. Outstanding pic of Ohio trout lily blooming 2 years + 2 weeks before this one.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Actually I think the Hackensack one may be White Manna. But it has the best sliders.

Hang on to the world as it spins around
Just don't let the spin get you down
Things are moving so fast
Hold on tight and you will last
Take it from me some day we'll all be free

Keep your self-respect, your manly pride
Get yourself in gear, keep your stride
Never mind your fears
Brighter days will soon be here
Take it from me some day we'll all be free

Keep on walking tall, hold your head up high
Lay your dreams right out to the sky
Sing your greatest song
And you'll keep growing and growing on
Take it from me
Someday we'll all be free.

Trouts prefer May Flies. May Flies do not have a digestive system...they are born to mate and die, and to feed trout. Intelligent design or another silly accident, that is the question.

Yet the teabaggers protest their taxes being cut.

I'll be looking for those signs saying "take away my Medicare/Social Security/students loans."

Professor: With regard to this clause in the medical insurance bill that exempts persons claiming religious objections, such as the Amish and this evangelist sect in Idaho, and who knows what other denominations that are sort of self-insured within their congregations, and Muslims since Islam considers insurance to be a form of gambling (which it is), are we not in some territory we have not been in before with regard to The Establishment Clause, either before or after Justiice Black's re-interpretation of that clause?
Is equal enforcement of the laws also involved?
I cannot quite put my finger on it, but I have an uneasy feeling that somethng is not quite right about all this.

On another happy note, the WaPo reports:

A former senior executive with the National Security Agency has been indicted on 10 felony charges related to the leaking of classified information to a national newspaper in 2006 and 2007, the Justice Department announced Thursday morning.

Thomas A. Drake, 52, headed an office in the NSA's Signals Intelligence Directorate at Fort Meade between 2001 and 2005, and continued to work with the agency as a high-ranking contractor through 2008, U.S. officials said. The indictment alleges that Drake exchanged hundreds of e-mails with an unidentified reporter for a national newspaper and served as a source for its articles about Bush administration intelligence policies between February 2006 and November 2007, U.S. officials said.

Good Job DoJ!

Though not mentioned, this was likely TSP, or SWIFT or both.

Hope the NYT's gets to spend a bundle on legal fees as well.

I love rainbow trout and not because I am a fag.

I like catching them and eating them.

I think this time of the year wood lillys and jack in the pulpits are out at my parents farm. Also, a another flower called shooting starts, I think. My mom told me it was illegal to pick them so I did, natch.
I have a hardon right now.

If you actually read the report, AL, which is pretty easy to do since it's only five freakin' pages, you'd have less of a reason to gloat.

"The Panel was not concerned with the question of whether the conclusions of
the published research were correct."

and

"With very noisy data sets a great deal of judgement has to be used. Decisions
have to be made on whether to omit pieces of data that appear to be aberrant.
These are all matters of experience and judgement. The potential for
misleading results arising from selection bias is very great in this area. It is
regrettable that so few professional statisticians have been involved in this
work because it is fundamentally statistical. Under such circumstances there
must be an obligation on researchers to document the judgemental decisions
they have made so that the work can in principle be replicated by others."

The process of filling out Minnesota's tax forms is much more soul-sucking than filling out the federal forms.

And the teenager's form, which should have been a breeze, turned out to be a little more complicated because his employer was allowed to treat him as an independent contractor. Had to pay the SS and Medicare taxes that would have been withheld if they had counted him as an employee.

Meade म्हणाले...

The trout is in the foliage. Google "trout lily" images.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

Let me revise that: the teenager would not have had to file, except that his employer didn't withhold SS and Medicare.

Meade म्हणाले...

"independent contractor"

Uh oh. Peter, you might be raising a future Tea Partier. The upside: he might be a budding entrepreneur. Either way - sincere congratulations.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

He's got the independent part down, anyhoo.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Meade, I took your advice, googled Trout Lily, and I learned this:

Trout lilies are low-growing plants that form colonies of plants of different ages. The youngsters are flowerless and have only one leaf, while older plants produce two leaves and a single flower. A plant’s corm has to reach sufficient depths (10 to 20 centimetres below ground) before it will devote energy to making the additional parts.

It explains something I've wondered about. I planted Trout Lily (probably two or three plants) years ago in my garden. It didn't come back the next year. But over the years I've gotten more and more little, single leaf (no flowers) plants. They are spreading, but they never flower. I wonder if they ever will (it's been at least 10 years since the original planting. I've got more in another patch that I think are volunteers from the Blood Root I planted in that spot (all from the Arboretum plant sale). Same thing. Diminutive leaves that have never threatened to flower. I don't think they ever will, but now I have a better idea of what's going on. Thanks!
