I could drink the second photo. A cup of joe with red licorice and marshmallows all over.

Cheers,
Victoria

What kind of tree is that second tree (the one with the red fruit)? I'm looking for a tree with attractive winter fruit.

That air conditioner in the second photo adds a surrealistic tint.

Thanks for the invitation, but this post following the Coats post looks like it may be a western chauvinist trap which uses the snow meme as intentional disrespect of ethnic Swahili speakers. You know of course that there is no word for snow in Swahili and that this snow is shown as White.I hope that you are ashamed. Please support Gore and Obama and wire a Trillion dollars to the Kenyan Green Emissions Reduction Organisation and all will be forgiven, until the money runs out.

I just finished plowing the driveway. 11º out, but sunshine and no wind.

Original Mike বলেছেন...

Just in time, too, AllenS? Was the beer getting loe?

Original Mike বলেছেন...

Ahh, "low".

Yeesh.

It's currently 30F in New Jersey, on the edge of the Hudson River across from where the World Trade Center once was. But it feels like it's about 10F.

We got to run the new snowblower Wednesday. It did the job all right, despite the heavy and wet nature of the snow. Not as much accumulation as Madison, but the bottom few inches were very wet and slushy. It worked through the stuff the plow deposits at the end of the driveway rather more easily than hand shoveling, too. And, if burning that gasoline helps warm the planet a little, that's a bonus!

I almost fell asleep at the wheel driving 60 mph on the four lane highway...almost missed a curve.

That was scary.

We need something new to shake up the politics/weather-climate/racism rut.

I'm thinking about learning to play the guitar. Any suggestions on a decent beginner guitar (acoustic)? I'm not particulary budget conscious, but don't want to go crazy either.

wv: lespall (I'm serious. This is freaking me out).

vbspurs বলেছেন...

My mother too, yesterday, KentuckyLiz! She was exceptionally tired and literally had to pull off the road for the first time in her life as she almost dozed off at the wheel.

We hit a record 89F here yesterday, so I can only imagine people doing that in the snow.

Thank God you're okay.

Cheers,
Victoria

Ya know what's fun? sitting under the little tree, taking off your hat, loosening up your coat, opening up the collar like a funnel then giving the tree a good shake. Bracing.

The other thing that's fun is asparagus and shrimp for breakfast.

Again, nice Ozzie and Harriet photos that say "home", especially for Christmas. Glad you two are so happy together, sentimental slob that I am.

You drink coffee with Twizzlers?

Take care, Liz and make sure you're getting the sleep you need. Even on a commute, something like that can sneak up on you.

I speak from experience.

WV "readi" When iou are, CB.

Freeman Hunt বলেছেন...

Yow, Liz! Glad you didn't miss that curve.

AllenS বলেছেন...

Just in time, too, AllenS? Was the beer getting low?

I had buy buy some food items. Did you know that a can of beer has the nutritional equivalent of a pork chop?

Meade বলেছেন...

@Original Mike... looks like it might be a Sargent Crabapple

Meade বলেছেন...

@AllenS, yes, I knew that information.

It's wrong, of course.

Still... I knew it.

AllenS বলেছেন...

Meade--

Fake, but accurate.

"Is it cotton? Is it snow?"

"I don't know. I don't know."

"Let's go out and play in it!"

"Jump in it."

"Fall in it."

And out the door the children flew.

The storm had passed, the storm had passed.

And all the world was sparkling there...

Waiting there...

All prepared...

For fun that only children know.

Original Mike বলেছেন...

It's truthy.

Thanks, Meade.

It is not the responsibility of ‘climate realist’ scientists to prove that dangerous human-caused climate change is not happening. Rather, it is those who propose that it is, and promote the allocation of massive investments to solve the supposed ‘problem’, who have the obligation to convincingly demonstrate that recent climate change is not of mostly natural origin and, if we do nothing, catastrophic change will ensue. To date, this they have utterly failed to do.

That is such a hateful statement, Lem. Our betters are preparing reeducation camps for the likes of you, right now.

Almost too many fabulous flavors in that breakfast, Chip. And that plate!

It is possible that the cooling and warming periods the earth has experienced, though millennia, has more to do with our galactic orbit than any man made influence... Something we can hardly pretend to be able to do something about.

If our seasonal changes are greatly influenced by the orbital changes of the earth and sun why could not a bigger orbital - galactic - change have a bigger impact?

Why cant we have galactic seasons?

Just saw a pretty spectacular predation event at my platform feeder. One of the resident red tail hawks just bagged a house sparrow off the feeder with one claw and took it to the maple and started feeding on it. By the time I got a camera out it was gone. One less house sparrow is always good thing. We have a bunch of hawks in the neighborhood, and I've seen plenty of feathers below the feeder but never seen a live kill. Pretty cool.

Back when we had no kids and cash in the bank, my wife and I spent a few months in India with a side trip to Nepal. I fell in love with the Nepali people. Wish that we had wrangled some sort of job there.

I was reminded a bit of that when I saw thisvideo about the Ghurkhas fighting in Afghanistan. (Sorry about the ad that precedes the video.)

I recently came across my "tourist" Ghurkha knife. It's got good heft. Leaving Nepal on our flight was an idiot who had his Ghurkha knife in his carry-on bag. Long before 9-11, they knew this was not a good idea.

Deborah M. বলেছেন...

What is this "snow" of which you speak.

Deborah, in the deep, rainy South.

The rule of Lemnity বলেছেন...

Meantime is bitterly cold here in Rutherford NJ.. 28 F but it feels like 14 F.

btw, I read that jihadist believe NJ is some sort of paradize...
I dont know what to make of that ;)

Morons?

Could they be talking about that MTV show?

Peter Hoh বলেছেন...

There are some pretty parts of New Jersey, but overall, I'm glad I left the state.

kentuckyliz বলেছেন...

Just woke up from a nap!

Was going to o 10 more miles, to the chamber of commerce office to finish rating grant applications and turn them in...and turn in a couple of things at work...but almost losing consciousness at highway speed made me decide agin it.

Missing that curve would have meant ending up in the river.

Swimming with the fishes.

Fuck fish!

Meade বলেছেন...

Atta girl, ky liz! Plenty of time to swim with the fucking fish after we're dead.

@ garage: Way to let your hawk flag fly, man!

blake বলেছেন...

Snow is so pretty to look at.

I'm glad people take pictures.

kentuckyliz বলেছেন...

I had a school friend who fell asleep at the wheel on an interstate in florida and hit a concrete bridge abutment of an overpass...she was in a coma for yeeeeeeears...when she came out of the coma, one side of her body was paralyzed. Still she managed to marry and have kids...pretty amazing really.

Happened when we were quite young so I have always been cautious about driving while drowsy. I didn't feel drowsy, just slipped consciousness out of the blue. Weird.

Just now on the Tonight Show: William Shatner was doing a dramatic reading from Sarah Palin's book -- with a jazz trio backing him up.

Palin quietly stepped on to stage mid-performance. When Shatner stopped, she took over the barstool and read select lines from Shatner's bio.

She could have read her lines a bit more slowly, but overall, she pulled it off.

vbspurs বলেছেন...

Palin had the same ice princess demeanour (a touch hostile, a touch kittenish) that she during her SNL skits. I thought she did all right, but what REALLY surprised me was the NY crowd, composed of tourists obviously, gave her a ROUSING ovation.

AllenS বলেছেন...

I just finished watching the video of Palin and Shattner on Conan's show. It was really good. She seems very comfortable in what she's doing. And yes, the audience loved it.

Some people's heads are going to explode.

Peter Hoh বলেছেন...

Victoria, Conan is now in L.A.
