Well then, this calls for an encore of the world's smartest cat. Thank you Lem.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

That cat is terrible. Practice makes purr-fect my foot. He plays like he hasn't practiced at all.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

I am going to turn thirty in twelve days.

Tell me, people, what is your post-thirty wisdom?

john म्हणाले...

Freeman, have you ever tried to make a cat practice piano? Sheesh.

I would tell you some post-30 wisdom, but you wouldn't trust anything I would say.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

So sassy, those cats.

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

Would you like to see a pop-up card I made for my brother? It was mailed today.

Jason (the commenter) म्हणाले...

Tell me, people, what is your post-thirty wisdom?

Try to hold a straight face when talking to younger people.

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

Hey - I'm at a movie theatre, about to watch Avatar,...

अनामित म्हणाले...

"Tell me, people, what is your post-thirty wisdom?"

For the most part you won't be any smarter when you're sixty, though you will have less energy to make really stupid mistakes.

blake म्हणाले...

Uh, gather ye rosebuds while ye may?

I think I was around 30 when I realized that age didn't bring wisdom. Not just for me, but for anyone.

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

you are wellcome John.

Hey - I'm at a movie theatre, about to watch Avatar,...

Word is Avatar is an anti American military movie disguised as just another alien movie..

Its anti war in Iraq propaganda.

Wince म्हणाले...

Tell me, people, what is your post-thirty wisdom?

It's the journey, not the destination.

Wince म्हणाले...

Now you've got me all nostalgic.

When I was... it was a very good year.

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

Tell me, people, what is your post-thirty wisdom?

Nothing lasts.. Everything fades.

I like these overnight threads, as it allows me to give you guys links without feeling badly at the OTs.

Here's a very interesting article (the CNN writer could've done better, though) about an outbreak in Palestianian male pseudohermaphrodism. Children who are born with testicles but are raised as girls for a significant portion of their lives. It's a torturous subject usually, but add Islam and Palestine to the equation, and it must be hell.

Cheers,
Victoria

vbspurs म्हणाले...

I could've sworn Althouse had posted about this (but I didn't find the post just now!) -- have you heard of the latest TMZ-generated non-scandal about Palin Thursday?

She, Todd and the kids were out in Hawaii on Holiday, when Palin was caught with a baseball cap with a blackened out "McCain" from the campaign. She said it was to go incognito, and in fact, she's cut her vacation short due to the ruckus.

Part of her statement:

"Todd and I have since cut our vacation short because the incognito attempts didn't work and fellow vacationers were bothered for the two days we spent in the sun. So much for trying to go incognito."

TMZ posted photos of the ballcap here. But being typical libs, they missed making a comment about the REAL message being sent by the Palins, which you can see Todd wearing here.

That's the same t-shirt Sarah was wearing on the beach with the blackened out McCain.

"If you don't love America...why don't you get the hell out?"

That's some Alaskan separationist, that Todd.

Cheers,
Victoria

vbspurs म्हणाले...

I don't know why I got all German and capitalised "Holiday". Sorry. :)

vbspurs म्हणाले...

Finally, the last link, this time about the host location for the Global Warming summit in Denmark.

Blizzard hits Copenhagen

There IS a God.

vbspurs म्हणाले...

The blizzard-like conditions, BTW, will also be hitting all the eastern seaboard this weekend. If you're in NYC, get out by Saturday at noon and come to 89F Miami Beach! :)

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

I'm giving Avatar a 6.

My post-30 wisdom?

Don't get your hopes up.

AllenS म्हणाले...

Post-30 wisdom?

Always wake up thinking that today will be better than yesterday. Nothing beats going through life like a positive attitude.

30s--career climb full blast, made full professor by 40.

had cancers at 40 and 42 and am having a hard time physically, constant pain OMG, and about to get a Rascal and join the scooter gang. LOL

Any wild dreams and goals on your bucket list that are physically demanding, requiring strength and stamina, do in your 30s before it all starts going to hell.

40 is a shock. everything seems to go bad quickly.

work hard
play hard
take care of yourself (weight mgmt, work out, strength, stretching, dental, mental, etc)

and of course if you're married and/or parenting, invest yourself fully in those relationships, because that hot career can disappear in a wisp of smoke and even if you keep it, it doesn't keep you warm at night. I worked hard to get where I am so I am paid well and it makes me attractive to eliminate for cost savings...the economic outlook is not good...bag lady fears stoked.

career/job pays the rent, yeah, but your loved ones give you the lifelong satisfaction.

age might not bring wisdom but it certainly brings perspective.

that cat has a nasty gash in its shoulder

my cats are loving and cuddly and they are really angels with fur

Lynne म्हणाले...

I once heard an interview with Chita Rivera (who did a revival of West Side Story when she was 50!)and she said:

"The secret to life is enjoying the passage of time."

I try to remember that.

Don't listen to blake.

Take care of your health. (seriously)

Plan and save for retirement NOW.

Don't throw yourself away on meaningless hookups - the real thing is out there and you'll find it.

Stop to appreciate the sunsets and the fallen snow and the pond on a summer evening. It really does improve your quality of life.

Read all those books written by "dead white males" that you were supposed to but didn't. They have something to say.

One of the best little bits of wisdom I ever heard, it was passed from the instructors at the Commando School in Achnacarry, Scotland to the men of the 1st Ranger Battalion:
"It is all in the heart and the mind". You can do anything, be anything you want, all you have to do is want it badly enough and follow through.

"Never take counsel of your fears". G. S. Patton, Jr.

Something an arithmetic teacher once told me, "You will find a use for everything you learn", so learn all you can.

Never forget your tomorrows are not promised. Don't put off the hug, the "I love you", or any of the other things you'll wish you had done if someone is no longer there. This stuff happens to everybody.

Stand up for what's right and against what's wrong. "Courage is the secret of a happy heart". Pericles

Forget all the celebrity glitz, fawning and hype.

Ordinary people - neighbor, waitress, grocery clerk - all have stories hidden and regardless how seemingly small or insignificant, are gold. When the stories are revealed, listen carefully.

Lockestep म्हणाले...

Tell me, people, what is your post-thirty wisdom?

Love life fiercely. Take chances, and grow from the experience. Regrets tend to be over the paths not explored, not the failures.

Eat, rink and be merry for tomorrow we die.

Just kidding. At the tender age of 42, I've come to the conclusion that everything repeats itself about every generation. That includes fashion, politics, music and prophecies of the end of times. I stopped worrying about most things a few years ago as I realized that 1)I have little control over most stuff other than myself and my family and even then 2) shit happens.

अनामित म्हणाले...

My post-30 wisdom: read Ecclesiastes often.

Chip you really are a clever guy. Is there a way to foster a sense of "hey, that's a cool idea, why not do it" in my kids? I don't really have it, but my younger daughter likes projects of all kinds, and I would like her to keep that spirit as she gets older.

Freeman--Practical tips:

Stay fit.
Alcohol in moderation.
Enjoy your kids.
Stay sexually alive.
You don't have to rush.
Keep your standards high.
Insist on getting whatever you really need.
Look forward, not back.
The best is still ahead of you.

I turned 30 over 30 years ago. The long term trend of life since then is: Better.

Although I hesitate to be the skunk at the party, I'm pretty sure that the "cat" in the photo is a pine marten. See http://www.wildernessclassroom.com/www/schoolhouse/boreal_library/animals/pine_martin.htm. A great eater of squirrels, and a real beautiful critter.

bearbee म्हणाले...

Makes sense with it lurking among pine branches and pine cones.
