The Grunge guys all looked like they were in a hypnotised state. Is this music the white boys first reaction to black rapper's chants? This marked the end of the era for white boy's version of rock and roll.
In 1993, there were two directions popular music could go because two new musical genres were emerging: Grunge and Hip Hop.
At the time, if you'd asked most people they'd have told you that Gruge was destined to become the new mainstream and Hip Hop the underground, edge music. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden were the bearers of a new artfom while NWA, Tupac, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre were the underground poets.
Now, 15 years later, the opposite has occured: Hip Hop is now as likely to be heard on top 40 radio as anywhere and Grunge gave way to Indie rock which, while certainly big, never reached the heights promised by Kobain or Vedder.
Disagree. Indie predated grunge (Sonic Youth, early REM, you could even take it back to punk since it only infiltrated the indie markets in the US). Grunge was a largely unexpected burst of popularity for indie which, after Cobain's death, lapsed back. I would argue Pearl Jam was stadium rock posing as grunge, but I'm not 19, so I won't bother :).

Grunge is good, but I just can't remember the lyrics...
