Boys conquer Craggy Pinnacle.

For fans of RLC's blog, these are Agents 95 and 97. We're here in Asheville, North Carolina, at a unique family reunion. For example, here are RLC and Meade, together at 12 Bones:

So there you have it: a picture of my husbands, former and future.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

Do you make all your husbands wear the same shade of blue?

John म्हणाले...

Is old husband re-married? If not, that seems like it could be uncomfortable.

Cabbage म्हणाले...

Nice t-shirt on the left.

+1 Big Mike.

TMF2 म्हणाले...

Ann - by coincidence, we saw Noel Coward's Private Lives last night at Cal Shakes in Orinda, CA. Lots of current husband, former husband, current wife, former wife in that show. If you have never seen it I highly recommend it.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Ha ha. They independently chose blur shirts. Long sleeved. Both wore blue jeans too.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Do you make all your husbands wear the same shade of blue?

There is nothing more to say.

Ron म्हणाले...

Similar smiles!

Zachary Sire म्हणाले...

They both wore blue shirts and jeans, but do they both have "Tender Butts"?

reader_iam म्हणाले...

I simply love this. I wish wonderful times, wonderful memories for you all.

bearbee म्हणाले...

Ha, ha re: blue shirts.

I was concentrating the wall hanging which appears excessively grimy. Rescued from a trash heap?

Jennifer म्हणाले...

Both wore blue jeans too.

Well, certainly they knew better than to wear shorts.

Mark Daniels म्हणाले...

I love all of these pictures, Ann. Thanks for sharing them.

By the way, we have all sorts of craggy pinnacles here in Hocking County, in southeastern Ohio, places like Airplane Rock, Cantwell Cliffs, and Old Man's Cave. If you're ever this way, you ought to check them out. I think that you would like them.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

We have this one in Arkansas. I sat on (near?) the end once. Very little traffic on that trail as it's sort of out of the way.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

And no, I don't know that Flickr person or the people in the photos, I just Googled the location.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

The fog brings back a long hike up Wright Peak in the Adirondacks as a kid, ending with a view inside of a cloud layer.

That was bad news because it meant we had to do it again.

I was not big on hikes. Aircraft seemed to me the way to go.

Jason (the commenter) म्हणाले...

The lighting is completely different, but that first photo makes me think of Ecstacy. It would be a great place to shoot at sunrise.

Lyle म्हणाले...

Cool.

Baron Zemo म्हणाले...

My dear lady it would be much more accurate to say that these poor fools have traversed the lower depths.

Veritable spelunkers in fact.

Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha.

ricpic म्हणाले...

These two men are smiling for very different reasons.

Following up on John at 11:36, if you ex is not remarried, engaged, living with someone, or at least has a girlfriend, he is far, far too civilized and rational for my taste.

Why would he want to meet your fiance? If your son was a minor, yes. One must do that "what is best for the children" thing even if it rips your guts out.

It would be far better if he spent the time out in the woods killing a wild animal -- preferably with a bow -- and then eating it.

If your ex is remarried, engaged, living with someone, or at least has a girlfriend, it was mandatory that she also be present at the wonderful get together.

It would only be preferable, not mandatory, that she be ten years younger and/or ten pounds lighter than you.

ricpic म्हणाले...

Speaking of fog, did anyone here ever go out canoeing on a lake, especially a lake with an irregular shoreline, and then the fog rolled in? It was my dad and me and we found the shoreline but then lost it at each cape. We made it back to the dock after what seemed like an eternity of paddling. For a kid it was epic.

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

The River Arts District sounds like a nice place.

the River Arts District NC.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"Why would he want to meet your fiance?"

Meade is a long-time a commenter on Richard's blog, so R was very interested in meeting him.

R & I broke up in 1987, and R remarried. He was married for 17 years and is now divorced.

David म्हणाले...

Fun times with the double hubbies. My wife is kind enough to show at all the (now infrequent) events where my ex-wife and I will both be attending. For that I am very grateful.

My ex-wife scores "none of the above" on John's current relationship test, but that's the way she wants it. A relationship with me seems to have been enough for her.

My ex will chat endlessly with my current wife but studiously acts as if I am not there, except on arrival (sometimes) and departure (rarely.) I do speak to her but because the conversation is one way it is very brief.

This is all fine with our grown children. The less ex to ex contact, the better for them. But we both want to be there for events of significant meaning for the kids. Thus this somewhat strange but ultimately satisfactory dance.

Next up is a daughterly wedding later this summer. Everyone expects it to go well.

We all find our ways to deal with this. My ex and I have ours, Althouse and JAC have theirs. God Bless Us All, Everyone.

Lisa म्हणाले...

We LOVE Asheville,

You should go to Salsa, Tupelo Honey and Early Girl Eatery.

Enjoy!

Sissy Willis म्हणाले...

Alhouse's boys . . . She who rocks the cradle rules the world.

Meade म्हणाले...

Because it was personal and private I'll not quote a comment made to me earlier today by Richard.

It suffices to say I continually enjoy his gracious magnanimity, keen intellect, and finely tuned sense of humor.

His four sons are indeed fortunate to have such a man to call father.

John Richardson म्हणाले...

The weather gods must have known Ann and Meade were coming to Asheville. We have had one of the nicest days this whole summer. Temperature is in the low to mid 70s with virtually no humidity.

Thanks for bringing the nice weather with you!

rhhardin म्हणाले...

If it's a friendly breakup, the old bf typically feels that the woman is the new bf's responsibility to care for and cater to now.

It's a form of freedom.

It's aided by guys not typically talking about girls.

David म्हणाले...

Nice, Meade. May your magnanimity grow even greater.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

It would have been even more interesting if she'd thrown a current husband into the mix. I think that was the plot of at least one movie.

If you drink too much champagne, RLC will turn into Cary Grant.

Flying agent on craggy pinnacle.

Jason (the commenter) म्हणाले...

I imagine Meade had to go through a ceremony not unlike this.

JAL म्हणाले...

Ahhh .... 12 Bones .... We were blessed with a 12 Bones take out ribs meal last Sunday afternoon with a group of friends.

Best ribs I have ever had.

("How do they do this?" I asked. "Secret recipe" was what we came up with.)

And Lem, the Potters Mark at the Cotton Mill in the River Arts District are dear friends. I love her "Pisgah Night."

Nicest people. Better than 12 Bones ribs.

Hope you all enjoyed our beautiful corner of God's green earth, Ann and Meade. Nice to be able to connect with Richard here.

(Did you "climb" Mount Pisgah? It's the other way on the Parkway.)

Safe traveling, guys.

JAL म्हणाले...

Did you guys see the anti-healthcare takeover protest demonstaration in Ashveille outside the rep's office near the hospital?

Probably not.

The local paper neglected to mention it, (at least 200 people there) so it must not have happened.

Would Walter Cronkite have reported on it?

Wince म्हणाले...

Whatever you kids do, guys, just avoid crossing swords ;)

TitusHelloLoveyousluts म्हणाले...

It sounds all very un-sancity to marriage to me and therefore I can not approve.

TitusHelloLoveyousluts म्हणाले...

Are you'all going to meet Chip Pickering down there?

Another family values republican that fell off the wagon...but we still love him.

former law student म्हणाले...

Very civilized. Marriages start with love, and should not end with hate. Plus any hard feelings should have disappeared after 22 years.

I have thought about it and I do not recommend passing tips for the care and feeding of Althouse. They are likely out of date, but much worse, exhibiting one's expertise can imply a residual proprietary interest.

Revenant म्हणाले...

Nice photos!

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Never a boring day over on Althouse. Meade has certainly earned his promotion for passing the Extended Family Test with high marks. Thanks again to all three for sharing.

Daniel Fielding म्हणाले...

Ann- of the 2 guys in the picture- which one if Richard and which is Meade? Am I correct if I assume the guy to the left with longer hair is the Wolverine, a former resident of East Quad?

bearbee म्हणाले...

I can FLY

Daniel Fielding म्हणाले...

Ann- p lease disregard my previous post. A look at an earlier post allowed me to figure out which was Richard and which was Meade.

bearbee म्हणाले...

Bet if you photoshopped RLC's mop unto Meade they'd be twin-ish

Jeremy म्हणाले...

A posting with the picture of Ann's current and ex...and JAL runs this up the flagpole:

JAL - "Did you guys see the anti-healthcare takeover protest demonstaration in Ashveille outside the rep's office near the hospital?
Probably not. The local paper neglected to mention it, (at least 200 people there) so it must not have happened. Would Walter Cronkite have reported on it?"

An anti-healthcare "takeover?" demonstration and Walter Cronkite??

Are you drunk or over medicated? (And who's paying for the medication? Your employer provided health care policy?)

theobromophile म्हणाले...

To have found love, not once, but twice, with two very fine men - Prof. Althouse, you are tremendously fortunate.

Jeremy म्हणाले...

theobromophile said..."To have found love, not once, but twice, with two very fine men - Prof. Althouse, you are tremendously fortunate."

Well, that's one way of putting it.

Others, including the Christian right, would call it broken marriage and divorce.

That's what they're trying to protect gays from...right?

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

Well, I can't help but agree:

It looks like Beta-Male Heaven.

Multi-divorced guys who dress the same, all being nice to each other, as their "strong" women, children really, stand around taking photos and kinda saying "Look what I did!!" as they revel in their on-going adolescent desire to "break the rules" AKA everybody playing like they were "married" when they're actually playing musical chairs. It's like Sotomeyer's testimony all over again:

We know she's lying, but with so many shrugging about it, we confirm her - and her version of what she's saying - and everybody else has to just deal with the truth afterwards. Listen to David (4:01):

"This is all fine with our grown children. The less ex to ex contact, the better for them."

"This is all fine with our grown children"? Yea, they just don't want to be anywhere near the truth of it - they've had enough of you raising them with The Golden Rule and, then, breaking it at your whim. What's the message, regarding your integrity? The meaning of commitment - to them or a spouse? The meaning of truth?

Honestly, the self-delusion and selfishness of Boomers is amazing. How so many can lie, to themselves and everyone else, for so long - and with that ever-present I'm-more-than-a-little-schizophrenic smile on their faces, is truly a wonder to behold. Who asked your arrogant generation to "teach" the rest of us this horrible lesson - that you (you, not we) can't be trusted? That you'll destroy anything you see fit and claim it as a "positive" development? Engage in the physical act and call it "spiritual"? Demand to be loved for your many betrayals?

What am I talking about, "your many betrayals"? Your every waking moment is a betrayal, you just ignore it because of your numbers. Thank goodness, the future belongs to those, like me and David's kids, who witnessed your lies first-hand and refuse to be dragged into it, or accepting of it, any further.

You lie only to yourselves now:

The future belongs to The Macho Response

BJM म्हणाले...

Maxine's head will explode when she sees this photo.

theobromophile म्हणाले...

Jeremy - I do not belittle divorce, nor the pain that Prof. Althouse and her ex-husband must have experienced during that. I would never call such a "broken home" or the like - I do not believe that the home in which I grew up is "broken," and I am thrilled for my parents (and anyone else) who manages to find happiness the second time around.

amba म्हणाले...

Because it was personal and private I'll not quote a comment made to me earlier today by Richard.

Meade: I trust it wasn't "Good luck!"

(You asked for it: if it was really personal and private, why mention it?)

William म्हणाले...

The phallic candle stands tall in front of Meade. RLC pushes his empty glass to the side. Meade's smile shines with anticipation. RLC's smile is qualified and kind of wan. He doesn't look forward to the next course.....This is why Islamic men find western civ so disturbing.

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

Theobromophile,

There is nothing about the institution of marriage, the idea of commitment - or life - that suggests there's "a second time around".

Other than that, I'll spare you The Macho Response

Rose म्हणाले...

Those are great shots.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Great pictures...

Does the ex- remind anyone else of Michael Palin?
