"Black care never catches a rider whose pace is fast enough. You got that?"

Said wacky old Rod Blagojevich, who pleaded not guilty today.

Can someone tell me how they got that photograph at the link to look so surreal?

I was joyous when he was arrested and I will celebrate when he is convicted. The sad thing is we are going to have to pay for his financial failures in this state. He used his power to put this state in financial peril.

No one has the guts to repeal his grand, altruistic programs. Instead, they are going to raise taxes and fees on everything. I hope he goes to Marion or the Supermax in Colorado; lockdown twenty three hours a day, seven days a week. To bad we do not have capital punishment for political corruption.

He's the new Phil Spector. And I didn't even have time to feel the void.

He is the best entertainment in Ilinois.

I bet he will write some gooder poetry when he is in jail.

They raised the contrast. Lower it about 50% and it looks normal.

Take one surreal looking guy, add wacky hair, take picture from odd angle to emphasize wackyness, bump up contrast and maximize sharpness.

Voila, surreal picture.

Man....that is some hair.

I don't got that. Er, get it.

What's it mean?

"Black care never catches a rider whose pace is fast enough. You got that?"

Could someone please explain to me what that means? I'm being serious. Is it supposed to mean anything?

cardeblu म्हणाले...

Thanks, Blake. I'm glad I'm not the only one...

Jeremy म्हणाले...

It's actually: "Black care rarely sits behind a rider whose pace is fast enough..."

Loosely: Self-doubt never lingers over someone who keeps moving forward.

Let's see if this fool can keep moving fast enough.

Blago is racist

I enjoy the distraction from Looziana politics, but I also hope we'll see Ray Nagin's shiny pate, in counterpoint to Blago's mane, on the courthouse steps soon, very soon.

Ernesto Ariel Suárez म्हणाले...

Beth, one can only hope. Although, he seems to be still pretty popular down there. What do you think?

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Bernard McGuirk did a long series of Nagin impressions, back before Imus got fired and resolved that his show would never find anything amusing about any black person again.

real audio many clips.

I was thinking they might have desaturated the colors a bit.

Blago needs to ask for the Spitzer special plea.

Peter V. Bella म्हणाले...

Blago has nothing to worry about. If he is convicted, his pals Obama and Emanuel will arrange a pardon; outrage be damned.

Can someone tell me how they got that photograph at the link to look so surreal?Looks like they applied a really heavy unsharp mask effect. This makes edges in the photo unnaturally sharp and slightly cartoonish.

That is some hair. I wonder what his business cards look like? Are they die cut? Metallic stamped? Pop-up?

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

... tell me how they got that photograph ... so surreal?Taking the photograph in full sun at noon. Ugly light.

No makeup.

High fstop, fast shutter speed. WB on natural light. Low ISO

Shooting Menu, Picture Control, Vivid-3, Sharpening 9 with Saturation +

No filter

Either that or full on automatic, holding the camera above everybody's head and snapping away. Select the weirdest photo from a set. Increase contrast in Photoshop for extra edgy harshy goodness.

Those would be my guesses, but of course your question was rhetorical.

Peter V. Bella म्हणाले...

"I wonder what his business cards look like? Are they die cut? Metallic stamped? Pop-up?"

All of the above. At the top, in the center the state- Show Me The Money in metallic embossing.

Blago was running a few weeks ago. He likes to run in the middle of the street like a crazy dog chasing cars- drivers be damned. My ex almost ran over him because he was not watching where he was going and was obivious to the traffic around him.

I asked her why she did not just run over him? It's not like he is someone's loved pet or anything. She did not think that was funny.

Now you know why she is my ex.

Just another reason I love Beth. Really.

I was wondering why the NYT chose to put that stuff about the celebrity show in this article that was essentially a straight news story about his court appearance. I thought that was rather a low blow but then we are talking about the NYT and they are known for that.

Beth म्हणाले...

No, Elcubanito, not at all. He's hovering at about 23 percent in popularity, and the news indicates indictments are on the way, if not of him, then of aides and contractors he's been involved with. It's all the hands of the local U.S. Attorney General.

Can someone tell me how they got that photograph at the link to look so surreal?I think you just make sure your Blagojevich is centered.

Roost on the Moon म्हणाले...

Photoshop:

Filter > Distort > Pinch

It's why the guy in the navy blue on the left looks so big, and why the arms and microphones look long.

T J Sawyer म्हणाले...

Wide angle lens - almost fisheye.

Held high overhead. Blago centered.

Nice crop.

dot म्हणाले...

Well, this is 5 years too late, but that "Black care never catches a rider whose pace is fast enough" is a Teddy Roosevelt quote.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

@dot

The linked NYT article has that information.
