"He doesn't seem like a total douche."

Why the crazy love for Blago?

An honest, pompous crook seem refreshing compared to all the earnest ones we see these days?

Illinois' answer to Eddie Edwards. I don't think the public minds crooked politicians if they are entertaining.

Flattering with faint damnations.

Maybe it's because entertainers tend to fall in love with scum. Like attracts like.

Well, even killers get to call witnesses and challenge the evidence. He has won some sympathy off of the heavy-handed treatment he has received.

And, some of us really like the fact that he sent another sublimely unqualified senator to Washington and confounded the idiots in charge of his party.

Plus, he has a nasty wife.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I can hear his heart beat for a thousand miles. And the heavens open every time he smiles. And when I come to him that’s where I belong, yet I’m running to him like a river’s song.

Your mileage may vary.

...but then he squandered all of that on his press tour.

My understanding was that he refused to participate, and then complained that he was not allowed to participate. I freely admit I could be completely wrong in this understanding; after all, this is Illinois politics. People in Wisconsin try to ignore the stench that comes on a south wind.

Kroger vinegar and water douche has no effect on skunk smell.

Massengill, which is supposed to be the skunk gold standard, is not stocked.

He came from the same row of vegetables as Obama and his closest advisers. Therefore he cannot be skunk cabbage. Who could have possibly suspected that the bad smell was emanating from this flower pot? Duke Cunningham, Mark Foley et al are products of a culture of corruption. Blago is sui generis, a charming rogue. What a character. His story says nothing of Chicago politics or Obama or Emanuel.

MadisonMan - it's true; we loved us some Edwin around here, for the entertainment value. But we finally put him in jail. And even that was entertaining for the first couple of attempts. He kept slipping through the noose.

Now we're stuck with Ray Nagin. He is as narcissistic as Blago, but without the entertainment factor. He's just a destructive force with no accompanying blowsy charm.

People eager for entertaining and flagrant corruption should move to Memphis. The mayor there is quite a piece of work. His response to accusations of corruption during the last mayoral race was to change his campaign slogan to "Shake Off the Haters".

Best of all, since the courts declared that runoff elections were racist (???), he keeps winning re-election with a plurality of the vote.
