"Wisconsin, I know who we are. We’re Badgers."

"We don’t shy away — we stand up. We don’t withdraw, feeling sorry for ourselves — we get up and fight. We work even harder. We don’t point fingers and fall into small minded bickering —we pull together, share the sacrifice and move forward. We don’t forget those who have been hardest hit —we look out for our brothers and sisters who need help the most. We are Badgers."

The Althouse blog is very varmint oriented this evening. Badgers in Wisconsin. Rabbits in the movies. Weasels in the Congress.

Is a badger like an otter? Cute little creatures, almost perfect for snowmobile hunting. But seriously, I could not find the part of the speech where he offered to take a pay cut. He just badgered the citizens a little and did a football cheer. Being a governor must not require using many marbles in the speech making part of the act. Maybe he's trying to lower expectations. His message in rabbit speak was," quit complaining... everyones got problems...you are expected to endure it" Not exactly happy days are here again.

Badgers are mean, not anything like otters.

Doyle isn't much of a governor. Kind of a dud. Seems nice and honest enough but just plain uninteresting.

The University of Wisconsin's nickname are the Badgers.

There is a profane shirt that says, "fuck em Bucky". I was on a committee to ban that shirt from every store in the country.

Badgers? Reminds me of The Wind in the Willows. Badger was all the things that Governor Doyle claims, except not in January:

"No animal, according to the rules of animal-etiquette, is ever expected to do anything strenuous or heroic, or even moderately active during the off-season of winter."

Summarizing, with Badgers.

Real badgers are ugly-looking, nasty animals.
