Rathergate, the movie.

The New York Observer has the scoop.

What would it take for you to want to see this movie?

Who plays Dan Rather?

"What would it take for you to want to see this movie?"

A gun to the head. And even then, it's a close call; the bullet might be less painful.

Meade বলেছেন...

How about Dan Rather plays himself? Fake but accurate.

What would it take for you to want to see this movie?

I'd have to be strapped into a wheelchair and my eyelids taped open.

MadisonMan বলেছেন...

I wonder who Dan Rather wants to play Dan Rather? Robert Redford? ('tho I think he looks bad after all the plastic surgery).

I'd rather not see this movie, thank you for asking. I have some weeding to do in the gardent. I think the last 'message' movie I saw was Silkwood.

Only if Lucy Ramirez does a FFN scene.

"I don't have to see it, I lived it." -- Pee-Wee Herman.

Who cares about Rather? I want to see casting suggestions for Lucy Ramirez.

Bob বলেছেন...

What would it take for you to want to see this movie?

Dan Rather playing himself, and dying in the last scene. Maybe rosebud can be his final word.

AllenS বলেছেন...

IIRC Lucy Ramirez was only a telephone call. The documents were picked up from some man at a traveling circus. So, Lucy could be played by Dan Rather.

This movie has mischief written into the script. Scullduggery and tomfoolery will be the main theme.

"What would it take for you to want to see this movie?"

A superb steak dinner with a couple bottles of a nice merlot followed by a threesome with Gisele Bunchen and one of her friends.

One has to marvel at the thought process that goes through a Hollywood producer's head when they actually think there will be enough people who would care enough to see this movie that makes it financially worthwile.

Beldar বলেছেন...

If the movie told the truth -- and the truth is that Rather, Mapes & Co. are outrageously dishonest frauds -- then it would be a compelling story. I'd pay $50 to see that movie.

Ron বলেছেন...

Who plays Dan Rather?

Will Ferrell -- the Anchorman!

Ron বলেছেন...

If they made it a musical, with typewriters as part of the percussion...Pierce Brosnan, fresh off of Mamma Mia, as Rather?

and in the end Rather leaves the stage a Willy Loman figure...with much, much, much more money...

Unknown বলেছেন...

I'm with Beldar, no way they make this thing about what actually happened, to include some guy in his pajamas typing up the "memo" on Microsoft Word. Watching this for me would make the Althouse egg salad extrotion look like a penny gum machine.

"What would it take for you to want to see this movie?"

A head injury, or the immediate and vicious onset of mental illness.

"What would it take for you to want to see this movie?"

Two high-tension wire connections to my testicles, a catheter the diameter of a fire hose, and an enema bag filled with molten lava.

William বলেছেন...

I see it as a remake of Front Page. Lots of witty dialogue that masks the sexual tension between Maples and Rather. Finally in the last scene they get it on. If Maples was played by Gisele Bunchen and Rather was played by Hilary Swank in another transgressive role, it might be worth seeing. But only if the nudity was filmed in good taste.

What the hell is the fun with that?

Palladian বলেছেন...

"What would it take for you to want to see this movie?"

The Ludovico Technique.

LordSomber বলেছেন...

I always thought the late Lane Smith looked a lot like Rather. Ironically, Smith played Nixon in "The Final Days."

What would it take for you to want to see this movie?

I've considered various possible offers and whether or not I would be tempted by them, and I've settled on $250, preferably in tens and twenties. For that, I'd take time to see the movie. For $500 I'd even claim to have enjoyed it, but not enough to recommend it to others.

I'm starting to think that the ability to live in denial is a defining characteristic of Hollywood. They keep making these Iraq War movies, even though no one goes to see them, and now this. If they STILL think the memos are real, there's no hope for them.

With that said, I see the screenwriter is the same one who wrote Zodiac, which I thought was great, and greatly underappreciated last year.

Trooper York বলেছেন...

I think you would have to get an actor to play Rather with an equivalent stature and held in same degree of esteem by the general public.

I would suggest Pauly Shore.

AllenS বলেছেন...

What's Pee Wee Herman doing?

DeVito might be good Rather.

Dan Rather - Orlando Bloom
Mary Mapes - Laura Linney
General Robert "Bobby" Hodges - Tommy Lee Jones
Charles Johnson - the guy who played George Washington in "John Adams".

Cheers,
Victoria

Victoria--that was David Morse as Washington, fresh from his role as psycho killer in "Disturbia".

I would see this movie if no one else did. But literally, no one else. Not "Redacted" with its 3,000 total tickets, nor even the Spartan 300.

I think it's just yakking though. It's a long way from being made, would be my guess.

Anthony বলেছেন...

Sorry, but my price for seeing stupid movies is $11,500 and a kiss on the lips from Kate Beckinsale.

Unknown বলেছেন...

Well Anthony, if you are going to play the Kate Beckinsale card, I'm going to be doing a whole lot of things previously unimaginable.

Oh, thanks, Blake. Now I remember him -- fancy seeing the father of our country in creepy suburban guy next door.

I wonder if Mount Vernon's neighbours have tales to tell.

"Disturbia".

Revolving masthead title!

Cheers,
Victoria (Lizardette)

I was thinking along the lines of Alex "rude little pig" Baldwin, but Pauly Shore? OK.

$600 to watch it in the theater

$400 at home

$200 if I can use my laptop while the movie rolls

$100 if I can mute the volume.

$40 if I get a blowjob while the movie is muted. (No spitters.)

Since I am a fair and magnanimous person, I'll give up a 20% discount if it's a rainy day.
