I eat steel cut oats with flax meal every morning. Good stuff.

I am troubled by the absence of recent fisheye views on this blog.

No fisheye this week. Next week.

How many loneliness cafes are there?

Was this playing in the background?

Was Eric Carmen there?
Gilbert O'Sullivan?
or Bobby Vinton?
The Police?
Julie Andrews?

One little girl in a pale pink coat heard
Lay odl lay odl lay hee hoo
She yodeled back to the lonely goatherd, lay odl lay odl loo
Soon her mama with a gleaming gloat heard
Lay odl lay odl lay hee hoo

Five bucks for boiled horse feed???

More than five bucks for dry horse feed???

No wonder they are so lonely.

It makes me think about what George W. Bush must think, in the privacy of his thoughts.

He led off with huge tax cuts and last week Congress made it clear they will let most of the tax cuts expire on schedule, a far far cry from his plea to make them permanent.

He presided over two crippling events. And years later, bin Laden is still at large and huge areas of New Orleans are still largely abandoned.

He started a war with much fanfare, and five years later we are still stuck fighting there, and even tinhorn dictatorships like Iran and Venezuela take advantage of our being stuck in the quicksand to kick sand in our face.

He set out to reform social security. But his plan to privatize it was a classic failure and made it clear that Congress would no longer do his bidding.

He saw his party lose control of both houses of Congress, partly because of their support for his policies.

His strongest supporters for the war were Aznar of Spain, Berluscone of Italy, Howard of Australia and Blair of Britain. The first three were defeated at the polls, the fourth forced to step aside. All four of their countries have left or are leaving Iraq.

He came in with a record surplus, and leaves with a massive deficit.

He leaves with the economy sputtering at best, and breaking down at worst.

He leaves with most of the elected officials in his own party trying very hard to not acknowledge him, and asking him not to campaign for them.

He leaves with an approval rating about 30%.

It can be lonely.

Yes, eli, say that over and over until you have it memorized perfectly and you can spill it all out as one long continuous sentence. Real fast. It makes you sound, how do I say, smart. How we never tire of hearing it. Always so delightful and creative. And what post would be complete without it? Well done. Thing is, he's still the POUS and you're still a wanker. Odd, that, innit?

"Steel cut oatmeal"????

WTF????

Is this a SWPL moment where I find out about a new way of making something simple complicated and exclusive?

I can just hear Pee Wee Hermann:
hmmmm ... metally

Chip Ahoy বলেছেন...

Oh. Woo to the pic. Lonely yes, nearly Hopperesque.

Steel cut oatmeal cooks faster than straight up unprocessed oatmeal. Rolled, smashed between rollers is faster. Cut and rolled is fastest, instant oatmeal. All these types are available in bins at Whole Foods and similar places.

As a white person, I feel obliged to say I think I recognize that wobbly yet surprisingly versatile shelving unit.

The Loneliness Cafe?

I've been there.

It's down at the end of Lonely Street at Heartbreak Hotel.

The barista's tears keep flowin', and the waitperson's dressed in black.

I like tin roofs,
I like brick walls,
I like the smell of coffee;
But where's the bacon? where's the eggs?
In this cafe too lofty.

It's Good Friday today. A blessed one to all who celebrate it.

Same to you bearing. I was late to work this morning because I had to go to Confession, and lets just say it took a while. But it will be a glorious Easter this year, you can just feel it.

Just shot the old omerta right in the ass didn't you. You ain't even s'posed to tell on yourself! Better hope Vinnie Boombatz don't find out.

Trooper York বলেছেন...

Don't sweat it. Father Guiseppi has a harsher brand of omerta, and he sure don't want to give up his Cadillac and hideaway in the Hamptons. I got something on him too so we are both on the same page.

Steel cut oats -- exactly what is sold as "Irish Oatmeal" in old-timey tins at obscene prices, available in bulk at you local health food store for next to nothing.

Smilin' Jack বলেছেন...

You wusses--I only eat titanium cut oatmeal myself.

KCFleming বলেছেন...

Me? I'm waiting for oatmal cut one flake at a time by Gishas using the diamonds on their pinky fingers, delicately saving each fragment as if it were a scale from God's eyes.

But I won't pay over $4.50 a bowl for it, so work it out and get back to me.
