All this Red Carpet jive reduces stars to mere clothes hangers. It takes their magic away by making them pawns of another industry and thus potential objects of ridicule.
Over at Slate, the ladies mock Katherine Hiegl's hair, which I thought looked great. Someone tell me please, was it because it wasn't the usual sleeked back look we consider soigne or was something else wrong with it? The clueless want to know.
I didn't watch (I mean, get real. Colin Firth was Mr. Darcy over on PBS and I haven't seen P&P nearly enough times.) but was eager this morning for the fashion review.
My reason for watching won, but overall I was disappointed in the show. I kept waiting for Jon Stewart to start being funny. He shined when he brought the singer out for her turn, but then he spoiled the moment with a feeble joke.

I just heard a comment from a pundit; Hillary Clinton should get the Oscar for best actress for her grumpy mother role during the campaign.

Just went through the slideshow, and the only thing that surprised me was that I didn't know Roy Scheider died.
It's hard to tell from the picture how well she pulled it off, but it looks like she went "traditional", with that sort of sculpted look.
Seems appropriate for the venue.
