"He doesn’t remember the names of a lot of people in his life."

The young Barack Obama. He's told the glowy version of his youth in his book "Dreamy Dreams," but what were things really like? There are 450 pages in that book. Fact check, all you Obama-stoppers!

It seems as if, if Obama's trying to hide or downplay anything, it's how excellent and élite he was. Bill Cosby should spank him.

Ya think jolly Chollie Rangel's scary? Obamarama wants to take the cap off income subject to FICA: the mother of all mothers of tax increases. But that would only stick it to the rich (over $92K, ha ha). And we all know that the rich, those pigs, deserve to get stuck. Don't we? Don't we?

Left-wing bloggers agree: Obama hates teh ghays. That's basically all you need to know. They're swinging their support to the equally "homophobic" Hillary Clinton.

I'd like to learn a lot more about Sen. Obama's "getting high" as a high school student. Did his parents know? Did teachers know? How many times? What drugs? With whom? In what contexts? Was he also buying drugs? Did he sell them to others? Was he ever arrested? Etc.

You'd think it would be easy to find out who his best friends were in high school. Has anyone done this story? Will the friends be quoted?

A good story for some news organization....

But considering there are only three comments on this board, perhaps no one cares about the Senator's candidacy anymore...

george: Obama disclosed his youthful drug use many years ago. He said he had smoked weed, drank booze, dabbled in coke, but said no when someone tried to get him to try smack. He said he'd made those misguided choices while trying to fit in with stereotypes of what a tough guy should be, but left it behind when he turned 20 and had grown up more.

What more do you need to know? Our current president, previous president, and previous vice president all did drugs but were never candid about it. Obama said: "I inhaled." He also said he saw how misguided he was by 20. Bush was snorting coke and getting DUIs well into adulthood.

So, the only story is the contrast between a refreshingly honest candidate like Obama and the losers who precede him in America's national politics. Unfortunately, the previous generation and the low quality of leadership they have given our country holds on for one more election, an election that will once again turn most people off. Apparently the baby boomers are not sick of the name Clinton yet and cannot imagine leaders from families other than the Bushes and Clintons. I know I've already stopped paying attention. So, enjoy your presidential election. Go be a rally supporter on Hillary's of Romeny's campaign trail to make it appear on TV as if people actually like these dopes.

But, once you realize that Obama's dabbling in drugs is not very out of the ordinary, maybe you'll at least start asking our phoney, loser leaders to stop shoving us into America's criminal justice system just because we, too, inhaled.

Lots of people like Obama. This blog has been unfair to Obama and its commenters generally still think George W. Bush is a foreign policy genius, so there are better places to discuss him online.

My best friend growing up was in Obama's grade for three years of high school. Unfortunately, we've lost touch since I left the DC area, or I'd get the inside skinny for you, if he knows it. Punahou now has 3,700 students, K-12, and is the largest independent school in the US.

I was the one quoted in the Times article, which linked to my blog (analyzethis.net). The Times reporter told me that she was having a heck of a time (a) finding anyone who knew him and (b) finding anyone who had anything to say about him. He was a cipher - just like any other young person who comes into an office, works for a year or so, and then moves on to other things. I always got the sense that we was sitting back and observing without revealing much about himself.

If Janny Scott had discovered anything about drugs, the article wouldn't have been buried in the Metro section. She kept coming back to the drug question. I told her that all I knew was what I had read in his autobiography (which definitely takes liberties - to put it politely - about his New York years).

Ann, I'm a huge fan of yours, and it's a thrill to be mentioned (albeit indirectly) on your blog.

Dan, thanks. It's interesting to know that the drugs question is considered so important.
