I love that Palladian is being used to sell tickets to this trainwreck of a meetup. Sigh, I wish I could come.

Palladian বলেছেন...

Trainwreck?!

Trooper York বলেছেন...

Yes the secret's out...it being held at the transit museum on Saturday at 4pm...enter through the manhole on the corner of Clinton and Atlantic...just give the doorman the code word...vortex.

Jennifer বলেছেন...

For that, I vow to never return to a meetup in Manhattan. Never! (Until of course, I do.)

Ruth Anne Adams বলেছেন...

Hey! Maybe we could do egg salad sandwich Part Deux. We're already over 10% there! She'd have to eat it in front of you guys and vlog the whole thing.

Wouldn't that be yummy?

I hope this is a theme party and we can all dress up in costume.

I'm only showing up if the sons of Althouse are there.

Trooper York বলেছেন...

Is this like the "Sons of Katie Elder"...I call dibs on the Duke!

Brent বলেছেন...

Oh, wish I could, wish I could . . .

Not in NY again until March; hope you will do another meetup then . . .

Ann- any plans to visit the left coast? You've got more than a few regulars out here.

Mortimer Brezny বলেছেন...

Oh, no. This will just be embarrasing. I will have to drink before I show up.

Michael The Magnificent বলেছেন...

In Madison or Manhattan?

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

Brooklyn!

Maybe we should do a Madison one sometime.

The Drill SGT বলেছেন...

Trooper, Are you gay?

"Dibbs on the Duke?"

I thought that Trooper York had to be dragged out of the house with the cute young Senorita hanging all over him. Are we talking about a different York? :)

Trooper York বলেছেন...

Dude..dibbs on playing the role of the Duke...since it was implied that were going to dress up..but you got the right trooper...so watch your step or I will send Sgt Quincannon over to teach you a thing or two.

Trooper York বলেছেন...

But don't worry Drillster...the role of Philadelphia Thursday is still open to mix up movies...I think you can proably scare up a nice crop of spit curls.

The Drill SGT বলেছেন...

Now I understand.

Though I had my movies mixed up. I think I was referring to Major Dundee (Heston) when the young bugler comes out of the house. guess he wasn't trooper York, that was in Rio Grande (wayne)

I was always partial to the loyal Latino SGT Gomez myself :) (Dundee)

I always thought the Sgt Quincannon and Irish in general were too over the top. (almost racist in their ethnic depiction)

Trooper York বলেছেন...

The reason why the Irish were depicted so poorly was because the director John Ford was a "self-hating" Irishman who had a great deal of disdain for the "shanty" Irish from which he originated. He specialized in humiliation and basically tortured his cast and crew. The person he most enjoyed tormenting was his brother Francis who was always almost a mute presence in his movies. He usually played the bushy haired old man such as Sam Boone who testifies in Young Mr. Lincoln or old Dan Tobin who was the Old Man on his death bed in the Quiet Man. He had preceded his more famous brother to Hollywood and scored a prime job with DW Griffith and worked as a handsome leading man as well as a respected director. He took his brother John under his wing and got him his first jobs in the business...and John Ford never forget it...he tormented him until the day he died. John Ford was arrogant, racist, and cruel bastard...in short he was a genuis..sorry if I went on to long.

I think that Major Dundee is the second best of Peckinpah's films although it doesn't have the rep of the Wild Bunch..... my personal favorite is Ride the High
Country with Joel McCrae and Randolph Scott...catch it when it replays on American Movie Channel...it has one of the maxims that I try to follow in my life....when Joel McCrae said "I just want enter into my house justified"....words to live by.
