Time to turn my back on Austin.

DSC_0113.JPG

I need to get on I-35 and head north, out of Texas, back through Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri... Who knows? Starting out at 6 a.m., who says I can't drive the whole way home? It's only 1200 miles or so...

UPDATE, 1 a.m.: Home!

You can do it but 20 straight hours in a car sounds tedious and masochistic.

1200 miles in one day by yourself? I burn out at 800.

Be safe.

(1) If you drive all night your hand’ll be wet on the wheel. But not to worry, there’ll be a voice in your head that’ll drive your heel.

(2) Apu Nahasapeemapetilon: “Please do not offer my god a peanut.”

(3) Last night, we watched “The Last Temptation of Christ.”

(4) The Althouse stance on shorts is well-known. Where does Althouse stand on those ankle high running socks? (I’m a big fan, myself.)

(5) Zeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnn!

Diapers?

Austin is the only place in Texas where I would never live.

"Time to turn my back on...."--Althouse

Observation: Nowhere on the profile page, or at the banner, does Althouse have the word "Mother".

You could read this blog for months and not know Althouse has children of her own.

Law Blogger, Professor, ...everything but "Mother".

The other titles come first, before Mother. Althouse simply doesn't define herself as a Mother, first---or at all, apparently.

Peace, Maxine

May lonely miles be lightly borne
In spite of all you've left behind
Dear ones though from your arms be torn
Held closer now, in heart and mind
Do not despair, be not forlorn
In strangers' faces, you may find
Some transient hope for Easter morn,
And home's peace, journey's sorrows bind

Did you see Jessica Valenti's article in The Guardian about your sexist treatment of her? Pretty harsh stuff. I wonder if you would care to comment.

I wish I hadn't been out-of-blog-pocket for a few weeks here; if I'd known you were passing through Dallas this morning, I would have suggested a great local coffee joint where you could have stopped along your way. (Everyone needs coffee on a trip that long, and it's alwayas nice to visit a non-Starbucks every once in a while.)

Or did you take the less-scenic-but-shorter 35W route through Ft. Worth?

you don't even read this blog, do you?

Back to troll school you go!

Well, sort of like reading Althouse's blog!

I see a drunk driving arrest in the near future...

I was drunk on innumerable bottles of those Starbucks drinks you can buy at the gas station. Only other things consumed. I pack of Eclipse gum and a McDonald's cheeseburger and fries. Everything was consumed while driving.

I did not use the crazy astronaut trick.

I stopped 3 times for gas (after starting with only a quarter tank), and I arrived at home with a scary 0 on the digital display of how many miles worth of gas I had left.

Great! Ganesh, Shiva, and Parvati on the same T-shirt.

Welcome Home Ann! lol

You took so many great and good photos. I loved looking at them.

Ann....you left out the hardest part of the trip....that part that starts with pulling away from the curb and lasts about 100 miles..all the time wanting to just turn the car around...and then the 400-500 miles of resignation that you gotta go...and the last 6-700 just hoping you make it home at a decent hour and it doesn't snow.

DaveW বলেছেন...

Wow you drove that straight through? I'm impressed, that's not easy. Heck I'd even say it isn't very smart, but if you want to do it then.

The hardest one of those I ever did was from Dallas to Santa Anna Ca. There's a sign on I-20 in New Mexico (or was at that time) that says 'Los Angeles 820 miles'. I always thought that was funny.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

It actually isn't a very smart thing to do. The last 100 miles was really hard! The hardest part was seeing.

Welcome home. Now put on a sweater. Enjoy recovering from your marathon drive.

Wow.. That gives "Buns of Steel" a whole 'nother meaning.

Glad you made it there and back safely.

mI am sure that seeing was hard. As a teenager, it's hard to stay up all night, lol.
