I'm generally a horrible procrastinator. But I always do my taxes early. That's because I always get a refund, because clergy taxes are complicated (we're considered self-employed by Social Security and employees by the IRS), and because April 15 is close to Easter, an obviously busy time for me. So, I did our taxes and got my refund check a long time ago.
I also do my son's taxes each year. This year, he assisted me so that he can do his own forms next year. I just finished that process this evening.
I also do our taxes ASAP in February, 'cause we always get a fed refund, that is almost all spent now. Luddite that I am, I use paper forms and mail them.
Still waiting for the state refund. I always start to wonder if I actually sent in the form -- it's been almost two months!
Did mine and the g/f's about mid-March. Got and spent the refunds already. The TurboTax state download and update process was more of a hassle than filing.
DTL .. I start checking the mailbox for 1099's about Jan 10th. I want my money back! :)
AMT??? isn't that the machine that lets you get money from your bank account? (ahhh, the joy of living in a state that has low income taxes, at least for a little while longer)
I knew I was going to have to pay because my income took a jump up last year. Boy, I sure wasn't expecting to pay THAT MUCH. Fortunately, I didn't spend it all. I have the money lying around in the bank, but ALL THAT MONEY I thought was mine actually belongs to the gov't. (heavy sigh) I've been there before. That's all part of being self-employed.
It just occurred to me that I'll be writing checks (owed to fed, state and fed and state estimated pmts) totalling twice as much as I made in a year at my first real job back in the 70's.

Of course.
Am I the only one who is anxious to get all of his statements at the end of January so I can do my taxes ASAP?
I owe AMT, ugh.
But I'm getting more back in state than I owe in federal so I'm happy.
I dread the moment when I calculate the AMT. I feel so ripped off!
I'm with mcg's party.

I would have mine done if it weren't for a tardy K-1. I filed an extension.
