I've noticed that in the past couple of years that more and more rest stops have Wifi. Everytime we'd stop to take a break my son would fire up his iBook and download his mail.
Madison Man- 151 bypasses Belmont and all those other small towns clear to Dubuque. It only takes an hour to get to Iowa now, and the road is great. They finished it late last summer or fall, if I remember right.
Drive safely, but not too swiftly to Kansas, Ann. It's one of my most favorite states (native Kansan, current Wisconsinite here!)
You take 151 to 80 and 80 to 35. 35 is one of the great north-south routes. I'd never given it any thought before. The great east-west routes seem so much more glorious.
I travel often from Aurora Il (west burb of Chicago) to Wichita KS. This usually takes me through Iowa (my home state! :) ) and I agree that most of the rest stops I see have Wifi. Now, if only I can find a rest stop near/around Wichita that has WiFi.
My kids live in Wichita (I moved to IL a couple years ago, after 10 yrs. in Wichita) and I am here a day early. Need to find a place to hit the net and relax for a while, w/out shelling out $80 for a short stop at a hotel.

Ann,
Is that your van? Anywho, that is a nice looking van!
... faces west and waves "Hi!"...
Guessing you took I-90 to I-35.
I think all rest stops in Iowa now have WiFi.
truck stops have `em too. `Course I cant imagine althouse at a truck stop.
I think I-90 is a little out of the way... I'm told 151 is a much better highway now than it was a few years ago, between Madison and I-80...
But he was so young,
And on a ten city run,
In love with a Truck Stop Girl...
Asher - you mean the one with "National Guard" written all over it? :p
Yes, 151 is a nice road -- but there's still a speed trap in Belmont, I think. That's the road I'm using to get to Iowa next week.
Ann, if you were to wear a diaper when driving long distances, you wouldn't have to stop at those places. You need to take a refresher course at NASA.
Welcome to Iowa! And remember - don't blog and drive.
Madison Man-

Ann,
You never answered my question: is that your van in that photo?
You seriously think that could be my van?
Look at what's parked in the lower left. Please don't tell me that you traded in Silvio!
Oh, I could imagine Althouse at the world's largest truckstop. (Take the tour!) I'd almost pay to hear her liveblog/livevlog/livepod that one.
der hahn is right--except that apparently there's no WiFi still at Loveland Overlook, which is in western Iowa.

Go Cyclones!
