I have a lot of experience with meetups of online groups going way back into the early 90's before there was a web. I was a sysop on the old CompuServe network. It was my experience that people never look like what you thought they would. But once you get past appearances, if you liked somebody online, you'll probably like them even better in person.
I got a suspicion in-person meetings of a substantial number your devotees would screw up the freewheeling ways of the Althouse blog.
I have rather the same impression, not only with Althousians, but with any blog readership.
A person's character and personality shine through no matter what online, IMHO, but we humans are flesh and blood, smells and touch.
So much of human interaction is about very real physical chemistry, and that is what I fear might be affected if one were to meet up in the real world.
That's my impression with fellow commenters, only.
Obviously, co-bloggers network all the time, and successfully too.

Man oh Manischewitz! Please, somebody, open a window. It smells like LEETTLE PEETER TEE floated an air biscuit or something. Pee you!
Idiocy loves company

Okay, I chuckled a little at Pete's second comment. ;)
I'll pass and await a future Chicago or midwest gathering.
I can't be there, but would you consider a simulblog/vlog?
Do we get extra credit?
I got a suspicion in-person meetings of a substantial number your devotees would screw up the freewheeling ways of the Althouse blog. Plus I hate NY.
But I could be wrong.

True AJ - We'd probably all end up liking each other . . .

Note that I don't have to say on line where and when it is. I can tell you to email me for the details.
