It's evening in the Mad City. The table's out on the rooftop garden, where they serve the cognac in a square glass.
It's a mellow feeling, watching the light fade on the church spire distorted by the glass of water:

there is a certain feel to a glass....a look ... a coating..so wonderful in late afternoon light.
clink clink madame professor
An Althouse moment . . . I'll drink to that. :)
But which cognac?
Looks yummy!
It's a shame you had to drink out of an inadequate glass, but the restaurant looks quite enjoyable nonetheless.
So, I take it that place has improved since we went there.
Chris: Yes. They just had a huge problem in the kitchen that night. It was completely abnormal.
RAA: Hand? I thought that was a foot.
But where's that toe? So, upon reflection, I see you're right.
Well, there's nothing left but to guess the name of the restaurant.
Morton's?
-luv that amber color so well enhanced by the white and silver, but was the placement random or intentional?
Nice picture there... is it taken from a mobile camera or digital cam.
The glass looks very tempting.

Ronin: Madison is very nice. That restaurant is on the rooftop of the new $200 million Overture Center, and State Street is getting a nice remodel. The area around the Capitol is beautiful, with lots of new renovations. There is a lot of building on campus, including the replacement of the ugly 70s things.
As for that picture, I didn't set up the placement of the objects, but I certainly chose how to frame them with the camera. Unfortunately, the battery ran out right after the shot with the spire. I would have reframed it better, but I didn't have the chance.
I don't remember what kind of cognac it was, but they certainly put a lot of it in that glass!
The restaurant is called Fresco, and you can see other pictures of it here. For more pictures of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, which is the part of the Overture Center under the restaurant, look here, where you can see some shots of the sculpture garden where the table was located.
dog: Click on any of my pictures to see which camera I used. It was my new Sony DSC-T9, which is a tiny digital camera, smaller than a deck of cards.
Thanks, Ann. It didn't even register that they had poured a really big glass of the cognac. I wonder if the bartender is generous or inexperienced. Now if that was a nice XO, or even VSOP.... Dang, I should have poured myself a glass last night. Now I'm just going to crave some all day.
geeeze ann,
i thought that was out of your kitchena and your rooftop eating area in your home.
i must have misunderstood how much UW pays its tenured con law profs.
VSOP, I hope?
Whatever it was, it was $9 a glass, but I feel I was given a triple.
hdhouse: You don't think lawprofs make enough money to go to restaurants?? Anyway, my 9-month salary, not my only income, is a matter of public record. If you took the initiative, you could find it on the web.
ann...have another 3 fingers please...it was meant nicely.
my x is an energy law prof and practicer...i full well know how much they make. current wife's husband is in indian law..he makes a bundle..my attorney gets a retainer...i'm glad you can afford it.
frankly i would rather have a good academic making the money than some legal eagle in M&A.
