Blogger woes.

Something off about Blogger overnight. I hope it recovers soon.

UPDATE: The Blogger status page reports that Blogger was down for about 30 minutes just now. If I hadn't gotten up so early, I wouldn't have noticed. It's funny that seeing an error page instead of my blog doesn't freak me out the way it would have two years ago. Seeing other people's blogs are out too makes it easier to take, as does being able to get to a page that shows all the old posts are really there.

Fixed now, apparently.

Outages drove me nuts when I was on blogger. They weren't often, but they always coincided with when I had time to post.

You think because you pay for something it will be worth it? I notice those paid-for services go out to. I'd pay if I thought I'd get better service, but I don't believe it. I think Blogger's interest in its reputation is a stronger force than the money coming i to these lesser places, which could die off at any time. I'm betting on Blogger, and I think I'm right. They were out for 30 minutes in the middle of the night, and it's perhaps only the second little problem all year.

And the pay places tend to go out when you get a traffic spike, which I think is the MOST frustrating thing for a blogger.

Blogger is weird. Theoretically, being owned by, and more and more a part of, Google, you would think that they would never have a bandwidth problem.

Nevertheless, it seems like at least once a day, I will go to post, and my browser can't find Blogger. Occasionally, if I reload my own blog, I can then post. But the solution I invariably use is to reload Ann's blog. That always works, and I can always post to mine after that. (My suspicion is that this is a result of an intersection between short DNS record timeouts and the way they distribute work across servers).

Also, their spambots decided my blog was questionable a couple of weeks ago, and so turned on word verification for posting. That is far worse than WV for commenting (as Ann has here), because it doesn't work as consistently and "Respond to this Article" doesn't work.

It turned out to most likely be my fault (I was playing with my template, which had some unfortunate side effects). Nevertheless, my requests to have that lifted went into a black hole for those two weeks, until I fixed my template, at which time, I got separate responses to each of my requests w/i 24 hours of that.

Despite this, I do think that Blogger is much more likely to weather extremely high traffic than the others. It is big, and it has Google's resources behind it, including the expertise to handle this sort of thing.

I noticed it also. I was getting ready for work and went to post something early. I clicked on a few other blogs and noticed they were out also.

It was probably a good thing. I notice ever time I post something too early in the morning or too late at night, I have more typos than normal.
