I used to have an old Uncle Scrooge comic where he tried to explain money to Huey, Louie, and Dewey, and sure enough, these Yap coins were depicted there. I didn't expect your post to jog that very old memory, but there you are!

Why do I have the feeling they only put paper clips on their gas station bathroom keys?

"If they don't want to be topless, they can live in Guam,"

LOL!

There's the Yap version of "If you don't like it here, live in Russia!"
Every culture must have a "If you don't like X, go live in Y" kind of phrase! Someone should collect these!

"Though the Federated States of Micronesia gained independence from the United States in 1986, it still receives $93 million a year in aid from Washington. Some question whether the U.S. should continue to finance the country without pushing for greater social equality in Yap."

Sometimes I shiver when I think of how many places the federal government is needlessly shoveling our money. If the tradition of the giant coins (and their wretched caste system) is so important, stop cashing our checks.

I suggest an alternate currency: Necco wafers.

At some point, and we probably have already passed it, the cost to prop up the western Pacific since WWII will cost us more than it did to defeat the Japanese who had enslaved them.
