"Fraud."

That's "legal language and not a reflection of Kenny's character."

Yeah, fair enough. Leave poor Renee Zellweger alone. On the other hand, you begged for our attention when you posed in that wedding dress on the beach. You used us when you wanted the good publicity. Ooh, look at me. I'm a bride!

Agreed!

"That's legal language and not a reflection on Kenny's character" is rather like saying Kenny is a homosexual but that's just a label and not a reflection on how Kenny feels about women. Whatever happened to the innocuous irreconcilable differences or abandonment or alienation of affection if fault must be alleged?

Something is most likely afoot with Mr Chesney. However... they lost me at hello.

ALH: She's seeking an annulment, not a divorce.

Well Ann, That only makes my comment more credible, don't you think?

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

No. Not sure even what you mean. There are benefits to an annulment.

ALH--my first thought when I read about the "fraud" thing was that I guess I'd feel defrauded if my husband was as gay as Kenny C. And next was, gee, Renee, how'd you miss that? But of course I could be wrong.

As the recently wed Ms. Bullock has said, "If you invite People magazine to the wedding, don't complain when they show up for the divorce."

Best news I have heard in a while...Renee is avaliable again!

"Renee and Kenny value and respect each other and are saddened that their different objectives prevent the success of this marriage."

Gee, you think they could have discussed the "objectives" of their marriage before actually, you know, getting married?

Personally I think Renee is going for a annulment so there will be no question of alimony.

It seems to me that if you invite the media into your private life when it suits you, because the publicity helps promote your product, you're not in a great position to complain when they don't leave on demand.

It's going to be the same thing if Tom and Katie have a messy breakup. They basked in the attention of the media and used their relationship as a promotional tool for their product; tawdry though that might have been, that's what they chose to do, and so in event of a messy breakup, don't complain that the press is all over you like a rash.

Worst of all, in this case, they are seeking an annulment, not a divorce. On what possible basis? Were they mentally incompetant? Was one of them already married? What fact, which preceded the marriage, supports an anulment rather than a divorce?

"their different objectives prevent the success of this marriage."

Really only two possibilities:

(1) She had the objective that they'd have sex -- he wasn't interested.
(2) She had the objective that they'd have kids -- he wasn't interested.

Though images like this and this are enough to make you wonder... conflict-of-objectives number (2) seems more likely. (Keep in mind that she's 36 -- it's biological clock time.)

I think Renee found out the Kenny didn't really have a tractor after all...

I just did a google image search on Kenny Chesney... and you're right, there's *definitely* a gay vibe there.

The utter hairlessness alone!

Where is the obligatory gay couples should have the right to marry and divorce in the same season just like straight celebrity couples comment?

and would the grounds for annulment differ for gay couples?

(oh, and just to jump into the Chesney must be gay theme, any guy who would hook up with stick thin Renee instead of Bridget Jones Renee must have a prediliction for lithe young teen men)
