"Why is he allowed to use the word 'GOD' when describing himself? Can anyone imagine the uproar there would be if I used that nickname?"

Wrote Donald Trump, railing, at Truth Social, against Charlamagne Tha God.

It's funny that he looks at the moniker Charlamagne Tha God and his first thought is What about me? Why can't I call myself a God? Trump the God, yeah, that's great, but those idiots will come for me. They'll call me a narcissist!

By the way, Mr. Trump, you're allowed. Go ahead!

Kamala Harris asserts that Donald Trump has said he will "Terminate the Constitution United States."

I'm trying to listen to Kamala Harris on Charlamagne Tha God, but — to use her phrase — come on. What is the basis for this fear mongering? 

"You know what he says he'll do? Terminate the Constitution United States. Let me remind folks: You know what's in the Constitution of United States? The Fourth Amendment, which protects you against unreasonable searches and seizures, the Fifth Amendment, the Sixth Amendment, the Fourteenth Amendment. And he's going to terminate the Constitution of the United States? Which in most of those amendments, one thing or another, was about a movement spurred by black people to ensure that we would be equally protected under the law. Come on."

 

The closest I can come to a basis for making this broad claim is his use of "termination" and "Constitution" in a narrow context, back in 2020:

“A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” he wrote [on Truth Social]. “Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!”

"But with Democrats, even when they talk about the good things they've done, it sounds fake. And I know that they're capable of sounding real."

"Instead of thinking of better ways to play up policy achievements, he argues, Democrats rely too much on depicting former President Donald Trump as a crook."

"'It’s almost like Democrats are doing this purity test. America is not pure. The people of America are not pure. We’re flawed,' he said. 'I’m not looking for my politicians to be pure, … I’m looking for my politicians to be effective.'... Charlamagne doesn’t consider himself a Democrat or a Republican — a position he says allows him to call bullshit on empty campaign rhetoric politicians spew when they decide it’s time to engage Black audiences to wrangle up votes. 'In 2024, it’s a race between the cowards, the crooks and the couch,' he said, referring to Biden, Trump and the option to stay home. Charlamagne suspects the couch will win...."

From "Trouble with tha God/The influential radio host of 'The Breakfast Club” is a thorn in the side of Democrats — but he’s also representative of one of their biggest problems" (Politico).

Go to the link if you need to be reminded of how Biden said — on Charlamagne's show — "If you’ve got a problem whether or not you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t Black."

That was back in 2020. These days, we're told, Charlamagne is irritating Biden supporters, who fear that he "may unintentionally elevate Trump."

"Dozens of young White House staffers have been suspended, asked to resign or placed in a remote work program due to past marijuana use..."

Sources familiar with the matter also said a number of young staffers were either put on probation or canned because they revealed past marijuana use in an official document they filled out as part of the lengthy background check for a position in the Biden White House.... A candidate’s personal drug history, barring past convictions for possession, is largely based on the honor system, as well as supplemental interviews with family and friends by the FBI—although lying on the 136-page SF-86 form is a felony, and effectively bars a candidate from ever working for a federal agency.... Some of these dismissals, probations and remote work appointments could have potentially been a result of inconsistencies that came up during the background check process, where a staffer could have, for example, misstated the last time they used marijuana."

"When it comes to black people you see who maybe are showing support for Trump, I think it’s because Trump is actually talking to young black male voters."

Said Charlamagne Tha God — who says he's voting for Biden (because of Harris) — quoted in "Charlamagne tha God: I understand why black voters are drawn to Trump" (NY Post).

When Charlamagne Tha God had Biden on his show last May, Biden uttered the unforgettable line: "Well, I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black."

Rush Limbaugh talks about George Floyd — and white supremacy — with Charlamagne Tha God.

It's a bit stressful! To put it very briefly: Rush wanted to express solidarity with everyone who's outraged over the killing of George Floyd but he was never ever ever going to agree that America is a system of white supremacy.

And so why would Joe Biden decide to step into this space like a deputized member of the soul patrol?"

So begins Michele L. Norris in "Joe Biden’s hill just got steeper. That’s a good thing" (WaPo). Norris is the founding director of The Race Card Project. Is Norris black? I looked at thumbnail photograph of her at the top of the article and it was not obvious, but if she's the director of The Race Card Project and she feels free to write "blackity black," I presume she is black.

Beginning a statement with "Just so we are clear on this" doesn't mean that what follows is true. It's not clear to me that "being black is an immutable characteristic — a physical attribute that is entrenched and innate." Whatever happened to the idea that race is socially constructed?

But what I hear Norris saying is that there's already a question of what part of what we call race is inborn and what is a social construct, and why does anyone think it's their calling to get into the details of what's what and what matters? Why does Joe Biden think he should talk about that?

Democratic candidates who have earned the backing and trust of top black party leaders too often tend to coast on their adjacent-to-blackness bona fides.... Biden’s flippant attempt at humor sounds like it was meant to underscore what’s at stake in the upcoming election, and it is indeed hard to overstate the prospect of another four years of Donald Trump’s bungling and callous leadership. But the “Vote Blue No Matter Who” line of thinking can be dangerous and cavalier. Black votes have to be earned both on the whole and through individual and targeted efforts.....

Interesting that Norris used the word "cavalier." Biden himself called his remark "cavalier" when he apologized for it. She also calls it "flippant." Notice the assumption that Biden was just feeling loose and blabby and splurted it out. I wonder. I think it was a joke somebody wrote for him, and he was looking for the place to insert it. That's why it was so awkward. It didn't fit the conversation that Charlamagne Tha God was trying to have, which was about Democrats expecting black people to vote for them without giving much of anything in return. Biden did not want to have that conversation, cut it off with a joke, and said he had to get going because his wife needed to use the phone.
