From "Lance Oppenheim Is Going Places How the 30-year-old director cold-emailed his way into making two of the best films of the year" (NY Magazine).
The "2 of the best films of the year" are "You Can See Everything," that film about Elizabeth Holmes, and "Primetime, " the one about the "To Catch a Predator" guy, Chris Hansen.
By the way "How To With John Wilson" is my all-time favorite TV show.
And I like this quote from Oppenheim's wife: "It’s almost like he was an alien beamed down to Earth and the only piece of software that was downloaded was like, ‘You are going to make movies.'"

Please clarify. How did it differ from 'You are going to make movies'?
I haven’t watched the documentary, but a few days ago I watched an All-In Podcast episode interview with Billy Evans, Holmes’ husband. It was quite interesting and recast the legal issues in ways I hadn’t expected.

Isn't "Primetime" a hit job on Chris Hansen, a man dedicated to capturing child molesters, by Hollywood Democrat Party libtards who are dedicated to molesting children?
Feature film directors have to be committed to the system that finances the project. Documentary filmmakers have to be committed to their project. Different incentives and operating environments.
I worked in dot-com start-ups that made incredible promises and failed. This was so common that we created a name for their non-output: vaporware. $100 million down the drain in six months on some poorly thought out, poorly researched idea. The wearable that performs a continuous blood test without breaking the skin is a holy grail for VCs. Whoever wins this race, will harvest billions in profits.
"Often, the process involves a lengthy 'fishing expedition,' leaving him with hundreds of hours of footage to sift through in the edit."
So he can pick and choose a handful of little gotcha pieces that he can edit into a story to his liking. The power to highlight or exclude the myriad of little pieces during editing is generally under-appreciated.
Between the conception of documentaries and documentasia, there exist a birth of handmade tales, brayed fancifully at The Twilight Fringe.
I you-tubed your favorite show, Lady Althouse.
I too thought there was more "E" in Febreze.
Time for Hallmark Christmas movies!
One of the most disappointing revelations as a young man, culturally, was when I realized documentaries aren't any more likely to tell the truth than other genres.
In addition to feeling misled, I knew I was going to have to crack a book to learn stuff.
In film school, they teach students how to edit to achieve desired results. "Make this person look suspicious," "make that person look sympathetic," etc.
The thing about documentaries is that they are supposedly constrained to present facts, but they aren't constrained to present all of them.
It would be interesting to give all the video footage from You Can See Everything, to someone else and have them construct a second documentary with the opposite "messages".
"Based on a true story" is still 100% fiction.
My favorite documentary is "The Mole Agent," by Maite Alberdi. The film makers set out to prove that a South American nursing home was mistreating its patients, but instead it turned into a sweet story about friendships in a nursing home.
I saw this trailer for 'The Social Reckoning' this morning.
The movie by Aaron Sorkin, a sequel to 'The Social Network', goes really hard after Zukabug, but looks to me to be mainly an attack on free speech.

My favorite documentary, because it illustrates that the documentary is only what the film maker wants you to see and not "the truth" is "Making a Murderer" that was on Netflix about 15 years ago. At the end of the movie the audience is thinking, "OMG this guy got railroaded by a failed and corrupt legal system". Then you read the real story and find out they left off all of the overwhelming evidence against the murderer - his DNA on the body, his fingerprints on the murder weapon, a box of identical ammo in his house and so on. As a journalist said, there is a reason why the jury only took 2 hours to convict.
Fast, Cheap and Out if control #1….
…watch the Sorkin movie if only for Sorkinism bingo. Maybe wait until it’s free…
Is it just me? I have no interest in any of these movies.
I've never seen 'The Social Network' and I probably won't see the sequel, but I'm interested in it because it's an attack on American freedom. It's an attempt to make an example of Mark Zuckerberg and thereby to intimidate anyone who doesn't bend the knee to the Party.
I put it in the same category as Elissa Slotkin saying that she wants to prosecute and imprison those who worked in the Trump Administration because she wants young people to be afraid to go into politics and Dems in Congress threatening to make an example of Musk.
Social network shows what a weasel he is

I don't remember when I first figured that out. I loved Burns' Civil War and some time later I read/heard from other historians that Shelby Foote (who was prominently featured) tended to be very. . . .creative. . . .in his historical reconstructions.
But then they did a retrospective on Pumping Iron and we found out that Lou Ferigno's dad never participated in his training (as portrayed in the film), and Lou actually went out to CA and trained with the other guys -- the film made it look like he was a total outsider. According to Schwarzenegger, after they'd started filming they realized just showing a bunch of guys working out would be boring so they more or less invented a story line of Arnold as the scheming villain and Ferigno as the naive outsider. Plus, Arnie made up some of the stories he told in the film just for fun.
Probably the best documentary I've seen this year is : "No other land". It documents the systematic destruction of Masafer Yatta in the occupied West Bank by Israeli forces and the unique friendship between a Palestinian activist (Basel Adra) and an Israeli journalist (Yuval Abraham).
The film is not really a straight-documentary about the Theranos scandal. It is more of a movie about the nature of deception and delusion.
Is it a documentary or something else? Whatever it was, it was really well-made. At the end of the film, there was kind of a sense that people are going to see what they want to see, which is kind of point.
At least with respect to themes it reminded me of Orson Welles "F for Fake", which involves a story about frauds in the art world. What is really "real", and what is a real fake?
The presentation here is wholly original, which is one of many reasons to see it.
didn't care for it. Wilson is interesting-watched a few episodes. Taste is of course subjective. Last one I watched was on scaffolding. very interesting at first. less interesting when the current mayor of New York was gleefully received and treated so well by Wilson. The mayor hates Jews, christians, and has direct ties to a few organizations that love killing people. for sport.
I lost all interest in Wilson at that point. Here's a tip. making friends and being nice to people who want you dead doesn't work, even if you are a big star.
