What a great song. And i loved it. And I wondered why. What does it speak to us? The love of social equality? The love that all that peacetime nonsense is over, and now we have a war?
It was written in 1918, and recycled for WW2. Amazing how all the "Smarties" know how to push our buttons and get us average joe-six-packs to go out and fight.
Attorney General Dana Nessel, who is Jewish and backed his primary opponent, has endorsed him. So has Al Franken. So has Mort Halperin, Mark Halperin’s dad.
Apparently Jewish voters are free to vote however they like—as long as they vote the “right” way. Funny how quickly “individual liberty” becomes a religious loyalty test.
And there’s an obvious irony: Jewish voters are perfectly capable of deciding for themselves whether a candidate’s positions are acceptable. Disagreeing with their choice is one thing; treating their religion as evidence that they should have voted differently is another.
Calling Jews ‘self-loathing’ because they support a Muslim candidate is quite a way for an attorney to argue that Jews are entitled to vote freely—provided they choose correctly.
Apparently, the Omani co-pilot asked the Indian pilot if he could leave his seat to go pray. The Indian pilot granted this permission, at which point the Omani co-pilot retrieved the rescue axe and proceeded to attack the pilot, in an attempt to crash the plane.
Isn't that a terrific metaphor for what's going on in the West, especially in cases where a Muslim politician promises his credentials as a moderate just before an election? The post-election playbook is crystal clear, even more clear than the playbook of those western politicians that pander to their Muslim constituents for their votes, until that magical 10% threshold is reached.
Funny how some become offended when the predictable future consequences of voting for your demise are highlighted as a reminder during the political season, especially when such a consistent track record of the same phenomenon that has already taken place, in other locations, is available. Why the protest, one wonders. It's not as if they're literally wishing for your eradication as an ethnic religious-based group. Oh - wait.
@ DB: The interesting contradiction is that your comment says Jews can vote however they want, then immediately explains why Jews who make a particular choice supposedly aren’t thinking properly. That isn’t really an argument about political freedom; it’s a loyalty test dressed up as concern.
I would distinguish between Jewish politicians like Emanuel and Nessel from rank and file Jewish voters. The Free Press had a story about the Detroit-area synagogue that had the terror attack. Virtually all liberal Democrats who'd never voted for a Republican in their lives (it's a Reform synagogue), but ot suggested 70% were going to vote for Rogers. You might wonder about that 30%, but that's still a big deal.
"Apparently, the Omani co-pilot asked the Indian pilot if he could leave his seat to go pray."
Even putting aside the attempted mass murder, WTF? 'Can I be relieved from *flying the plane* so I can go pray?' Your responsibility is to the 180 people (IIRC) onboard. Why must we put up with this shit?
If El-Sayed beats Rogers, perhaps we should ask what voters saw in the candidates rather than declaring Jewish voters “self-loathing.” Voters don’t surrender their political judgment to a religious identity card. They can disagree with El-Sayed on Israel, support him despite that, or simply decide other issues matter more. Calling that “self-loathing” doesn’t explain their vote it reveals Dave’s assumption about how Jews are supposed to vote.
Interesting paper from the NBER, 2 to 6 cents of each us supplied foreign aid dollar is deposited is someone’s cryptocurrency account, sounds like it’s well spent.
Crypto Capture of Foreign Aid Sumit Agarwal, Peiyi Jin, Eswar S. Prasad & Daniel Rabetti X LinkedIn Facebook Bluesky Threads Email Link WORKING PAPER 35655 DOI 10.3386/w35655 ISSUE DATE August 2026 The 2016 Panama Papers leak tightened regulatory enforcement around money laundering and offshore banking. We investigate whether the diversion of foreign aid in developing countries led to a shift to cryptocurrency as an alternative laundering platform. We develop a disbursement-timed forensic measure of cryptocurrency activity, combining on-chain Bitcoin transactions and wallet creation, off-chain exchange records, and IP-linked web traffic, and apply it to World Bank aid disbursements covering $238 billion across the 93 recipient countries in our estimation sample during 2018-2024. Exploiting the administrative timing of aid tranche arrivals, we find sharp, short-lived surges of crypto activity at the disbursement month, driven mainly by anonymous and newly created wallets on both tax-haven and mainstream exchanges. Blockchain forensics reveal patterns consistent with the placement, layering, and integration sequence of conventional money laundering. We estimate an implied leakage of 2 to 6 cents per aid dollar, which amounts to roughly 1.7 to 4.4 billion dollars of aid diversion across the tranche arrivals we study. Capture carries no funding penalty: the four sectors where we detect it, Transport, Water and Sanitation, Social Protection, and Governance, still absorb half of subsequent World Bank funding. Cryptocurrency facilitates aid diversion, but its transparent ledgers also leave forensic traces that may help detect and recover diverted funds.
Is another possible explanation that even/especially honest 3rd World officials use crypto as an alternative to their countries' unreliable banks and creaky access to the global wire system?
And/or the final aid recipients, classically unbanked, use crypto as their primary finance method? CC, JSM
Yeah, why??? I have seen some antics from women who were drunk and they were the aggressors. This is why you don't get yourself into these situations to begin with.....
Question for El-Sayed: "Sharia law says that a man who leaves Islam ought to be put to death. What do you say about that?"
I would love it if Muslims in public life would push back on the wrongs of sharia law. They damn well should not be able to sneak into public office, believing in a theology that is a direct contradiction of our U.S. Constitution. So ask the question!
There are Muslims who take the progressive or liberal view. But El-Sayed campaigned with Hasan Piker, the hater and the terrorist fan. So this is a more than fair question.
"Do you think Muslims who leave the faith ought to be put to death?"
"Why did you campaign with Hasan Piker, who celebrates Hamas and their rapes and murders of innocent people?"
"Do you think Israel ought to be wiped off the map?"
The strain of Islam that says “Death to Israel” means it and, in Iran, has been doing it for decades. Serious stuff.
I know there is a difference between Sunni and Shia Islam, but I refuse to learn what it is. Something about who was in charge as heir after the Prophet died.
Norm described Uecker calling a baseball play-by-play normally ("Ground ball to shortstop..."), hitting the cough/mute button to casually drop an unhinged/vulgar remark ("...look at the f***in' tits on that whore..."), and immediately flipping the mic back on to finish the call ("...over to first, two outs").
A Michigan kid asked El-Sayed about the evil government in Iran. I figured he was a Muslim, but he's a Christian. He's got family in Iran, and they're being chased on the streets. Now, here in the USA, his family is being threatened
The main difference between Sunni and Shia is that after the prophet died there was a succession disagreement. There was the Sultan who most of the people followed and some relative of the prophet another group followed.
The Sultan put all of the dissenter's heads on pikes. The winners became the Sunni.
The losers became the Shia, and created a holiday where they run around and cut themselves and wave bloody shirts to remember how awful everyone else is and how they are going to kill everyone that opposes them ruling the world.
The Shia are another tribe that just needs to not be a tribe anymore.
The strain of Islam that says “Death to Israel” means it and, in Iran, has been doing it for decades. Serious stuff.
I know there is a difference between Sunni and Shia Islam, but I refuse to learn what it is. Something about who was in charge as heir after the Prophet died.
You guys need to stop punching that tar baby.
We should not give a fuck about Israel beyond whether they are useful to us or not. They should take care of themselves.
That has nothing to do with what we are doing in Iran. You people need to start studying history and stop being gullible dupes.
Chatham house designed the entire middle east starting in the early 1900's to be a festering war torn shithole. Every single country in the middle east was created with lines that boxed in several tribes of people that hated each other and then Britain put one of the minorities in charge of the country. Syria was majority sunni and kurd and they put the Alawites in charge. Iraq was minority shia and kurd and they put the sunni in charge. This pattern was repeated so that no tribe in the middle east would have control over the majority of their population and there would never be peace.
In 1948 britain created Israel but they put the Jews in a country and then moved a huge number of people into the country and called them "Palestinians." Britain created Israel to turn the Middle East into a festering war torn shithole. Putting the Shia in control of Iran and putting them over the majority Persians was just another move in this effort.
Trump is undoing all of this. This war has always been about rebuilding the post world war II consensus towards a more peaceful world.
I wish Trump would have more faith in his supporters to understand this.

Guillaume Herblot 🎖️ @Guigz75116 Translated from French The inhumane conditions at Nelson-Mandela High School in Nantes. You had to see it to believe it. Glass roof, light wood, nave of 26,000 m², positive energy. Boarding facilities with 166 beds, rooms with bathrooms, study rooms, patio. Two gymnasiums and a climbing wall with 24 routes. International sections, BTS, preparatory classes. Original bill: 52 to 64 million euros, twelve years ago. The kind of facility that would make 95 percent of French high schools turn pale. And it’s this high school they set fire to—the lobby and glass roof—in the name of a lack of resources. "Dozens of people were reported to be in isolation after a Russian laboratory worker at an institute dedicated to studying the plague and other infectious diseases died of an undisclosed illness.
The researcher, a 28-year-old female laboratory technician at the Irkutsk Research Anti-Plague Institute of Siberia, in the town of Shelekhov, died after being diagnosed with a pneumonia of “unknown” origin, according to Rospotrebnadzor, the Russian agency that handles infectious disease.
The agency played down the link between the researcher’s death and her work.
“No micro-organisms associated with the employee’s professional duties were detected in samples taken from the patient,” it asserted, adding that the “epidemiological situation” in the region was stable.
Nevertheless, the agency’s head, Anna Yuryevna Popova, traveled to Irkutsk on Friday, according to the local governor, Igor Kobzev, for what he described as an extraordinary meeting of the regional anti-epidemic commission.
Regional authorities are implementing a “comprehensive set of anti-epidemic measures,” according to Maxim Modin, the mayor of the Shelekhovsky district in eastern Russia, near the Mongolian border.

So there's this new crime called "criminal clergy sexual assault," which makes it illegal for a priest to have sex with anybody in his church. This Catholic priest was convicted to life in prison for having consensual sex with an adult in his church. And a baby.
I find this mind-boggling, honestly. Aside from the laughable attempt by the Guardian to pile on with a "child neglect" charge because he didn't have a car seat. I didn't have a car seat, growing up. These are not crimes.
I get that he violated ethical norms, and Catholic theology. It's not rape to have sex with a woman! Do these people realize that they are saying MLK should have been sentenced to life in prison?
I call bullshit on this idea that women have no agency. You are not a child!
If your having sex with your priest, you are having sex with your priest. I call bullshit on this whole idea that you were raped by Christianity and your belief in God, and the church.
a serial rapist whose weapon was neither force nor fear, but faith.
You are insane prosecutors.
Odiong, a Catholic priest, sexually abused multiple women over 15 years by exploiting their devout Catholic faith
Yeah, you can't lock people up for having sex while Catholic. That's not a crime. Life in prison for a priest having sex. Get your laws off my theology. Priests can marry! I'm absolutely appalled by this.
He has a constitutional right to the free exercise of religion, and you cannot put a man in jail based on his status as a priest. You can't create specific rape laws that only punish priests, and nobody else. And this idea of stripping adults of their agency and defining them as children who cannot consent? How is that helping anybody?
Obviously, this priest should have converted to the Episcopal church, married his girlfriend, and had a happy life. I don't know why he didn't do that. But the punishment for his failure to convert to the other side of the aisle should not be life in prison
Can’t go a thread without Muslim bashing, it’s almost like you work for a troll farm being paid to justify killing people, or you believe to be less than human, but I know that can’t be true, because, well…
There is another semitic race besides Arabs who were constantly accused of all kinds of nasty things, in the thirties, in Europe, but that was different, right?

"Odiong’s path to prison began in earnest with his likening members of the LGBTQ+ community to “monkeys and chimpanzees” while preaching to St Anthony congregants at a Sunday mass in November 2023."
“ You can't create specific rape laws that only punish priests”
In Israel they have specific terrorism laws, that carry the death sentence, that can only be applied to Arabs, probably because Jewish settlers in the West Bank would be falling afoul of them every day.
I bet if we stopped bombing them, or fomenting coups in their countries to take their oil, like we did in Iran in 1953, a lot fewer would be showing up here, and they would not be so angry.
No, it's not funny that the guy is in prison for having sex with consenting adults. I agree with you on that. . But the way you wrote the comment was funny. We knew you didn't mean that, but it came out that way. We're just giving you shit.

"In 1948 britain created Israel but they put the Jews in a country and then moved a huge number of people into the country and called them "Palestinians." "
Yikes, this is like saying "In 1776 Britain created the USA but they put Europeans in a country and then moved a huge number of people into the country and called them "Indians." "
Palestinian Jews (yes, that's what they were called) revolted against the British, and the Brits ceded control to the UN. The UN's partition plan carved out areas of primarily Jewish population to be Israel. The only reason post-1948 Israel had a substantial Arab population (no one called them "Palestinians" until they took the identity in the 1960s) was because the Arabs attacked the Jews in 1948 and lost most of the territory that had been allocated to them by the partition plan.
Achilles actually has a kernel of fact in his screed about the Middle East. .
There’s some real history here, but it has been put through the conspiracy-theory sausage grinder. Britain and France meddled heavily in the post-Ottoman Middle East, drew problematic borders, and backed favored rulers. All true. But Chatham House didn’t secretly blueprint a century of war; France, not Britain, administered Syria; Iran’s Shi’a identity predates British involvement by centuries; and Britain didn’t manufacture “Palestinians” in 1948 Palestinian Arabs were already the majority population of Mandatory Palestine.
Imperial meddling is history. A century-long master plan to keep the Middle East at war is fan fiction. The bit about Trump finally undoing the whole thing is apparently the sequel.
the actor is a clergyman who causes the other person to submit or participate by exploiting the other person’s emotional dependency on the clergyman in the clergyman’s professional character as spiritual adviser;
another "potential rapist" is a doctor who has sex with a patient, or a former patient.
the actor is a mental health services provider or a health care services provider who causes the other person, who is a patient or former patient of the actor, to submit or participate by exploiting the other person’s emotional dependency on the actor
that's rape in Texas
you have sex with somebody who is emotionally dependent on you
they can't consent
they got the emotions and it's made them child-like and unable to say no, apparently
I remain appalled.
the actor is an employee of a facility where the other person is a resident, unless the employee and resident are formally or informally married to each other
Don't fuck the janitor, or it's life in prison
George Costanza asks, "Is that wrong?"
Yeah, apparently, life in prison.
what the fuck, how insane is this?
Texas just adding large groups of adults to the "unable to consent" dictionary.
I think it's pretty shocking that what made him subject to prosecution for sexual assault in TX according to the Guardian was that another woman (not the mother of his child) told prosecutors he persuaded her to have "a form of sexual intercourse" with another man. What? He's guilty of sexual assault because 2 other adults had "a form of sexual intercourse?" This is in Texas! Unreal.
Mandatory Palestine was the name for the territory that was administered by Britain under a League of Nations mandate from 1920 until 1948, after the Ottoman Empire lost the region in World War
AI: "In short, “Mandatory Palestine” is the historical name for that British League of Nations mandate territory (1920/1923–1948), not a present-day state. "
In other words this GDP growth is being bought with debt both Government and Corporate. If I had a credit card with no limits and my monthly repayments could be paid off simply by adding the repayment to the credit card, I bet I would give off the illusion of prosperity too. When US Nominal GDP grows faster than Federal Government debt, I will reconsider my view. Till then, the US boom is a debt-fueled chimera.
I think pro-life states ought to make it a felony to coerce an abortion. That’s a new crime. How many abortions are coerced in our society? Millions, I suspect.
Another tidbit: The British prevented Jews from entering Palestine in the late 1930s and 40s, but allowed Arabs to emigrate there. Everyone knows the Exodus story, but that was 1947. In 1941 they refused to allow 767 Jewish refugees from Romania to enter from the Struma. The ship was sent back out to sea and sank (probably torpedoed by the Soviets). There was only one survivor. https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/voyage-of-the-struma
The Peel Commission blamed neither “the Jews” nor simply Haj Amin. It identified competing Arab and Jewish national aspirations, British policy, immigration, land purchases and Arab opposition to the Jewish National Home as causes of the revoltand concluded that partition was the most workable solution.
That distinction matters because “the Peel Commission proved the Jews were to blame” is almost as misleading as the opposite claim that it proved the Arabs were solely to blame.
The 1937 Peel Commission itself is worth reading especially Chapter XIX. It didn’t “blame the Jews”; it identified competing Arab and Jewish national aspirations, British policy, immigration and land purchases among the causes of the conflict, then recommended partition. https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Palestine_Royal_Commission_report
“Ministry of Silly Walks” is clever. But the Peel Commission report is a primary source, not a punchline; dismissing it with a Monty Python reference isn’t a rebuttal it’s an admission you lack one.
I was playing golf one morning; our regular foursome was one short, and at one point things got backed up and we caught up with a guy playing as a single ahead of us. My buddy said "Hey, it's "Father Jim"; he's a priest--I'll tell you about him later." He invited us to play with him. Nice guy, very unlike my impression of a priest. On about the third hole together, he three-putted from about fifteen feet and let loose some seriously unpriestly language. After about 6 holes he said he had to run and left. My buddy explained that "Father Jim" is no longer actually a priest. One of his duties at the local parish was to provide marital counseling to couples having problems (Go figure--the Catholic Church!). He ultimately ended up comforting one particular woman "with his penis" (as Carrie Fischer said about her father and Elizabeth Taylor). It was a local scandal. He was either defrocked or voluntarily renounced his priesthood, and married the woman after her divorce. They are members of a local motorcycle club. I've played with him several times since. Nice guy, although I suspect that his wife's ex would not agree.

Whatever Britain's nefarious manipulations earlier in the century, in the last years of the mandate they were trying to prevent the two sides from destroying each other and to keep the peace until a somewhat equitable resolution could be achieved.
The non-binding UN resolution proposed a division into a Jewish and Arab sector. The Arab sector was overwhelmingly Arab. The Jewish sector was 55% Jewish and 45% Arab in population. Ben Gurion and other Zionist leaders realized that was no basis for a Jewish state. Fighting began before Israeli independence was declared and the Arab states intervened. David and Goliath stories aside, the Arab forces were no match for the Israelis, all the more so since Jordan was only interested in acquiring the West Bank for itself, not in defeating Israel.
"The Arab sector was overwhelmingly Arab. The Jewish sector was 55% Jewish and 45% Arab in population. Ben Gurion and other Zionist leaders realized that was no basis for a Jewish state. Fighting began before Israeli independence was declared and the Arab states intervened."
This glosses over important facts. The Jews under Ben-Gurion accepted the UN plan, as bad as it was, while the Arabs rejected it.
"Fighting began" is a NYT-style euphemistic way of saying that the Arabs immediately began rioting and killing Jews, and then six weeks after the UN resolution launched a full-scale assault.
Mandatory Palestine was just one of the territories formerly ruled by the Ottomans that the Sykes-Picot Agreement handed to the UK and France.
If the Russians hadn't abandoned the Entente it would be called the Sykes-Picot-Samsonov Agreement and Russia would have got Armenia and a chunk of eastern Turkey to have and to hold, and retained their rights as protectors of Orthodox Christians in the Holy Land.
The Brits and French even tried to tempt the US to join the party, but Wilson--leave aside the Republicans--didn't want Middle Eastern shitholes to add to the eastern European shithole problems.
It would take the discovery of Saudi oil and FDR's crush on the manly slaveowning Saudi king Faisal to pull the US into the region in the way we all love today.

WORKING PAPER 35655

ISSUE DATE August 2026
The 2016 Panama Papers leak tightened regulatory enforcement around money laundering and offshore banking.

Brazil tired of socialism.
Norm Macdonald tells a Bob Uecker story
IEE
People believe what they want to believe.
The strain of Islam that says “Death to Israel” means it and, in Iran, has been doing it for decades. Serious stuff.
I know there is a difference between Sunni and Shia Islam, but I refuse to learn what it is. Something about who was in charge as heir after the Prophet died.
another joke from Norm, can't find the audio
Norm described Uecker calling a baseball play-by-play normally ("Ground ball to shortstop..."), hitting the cough/mute button to casually drop an unhinged/vulgar remark ("...look at the f***in' tits on that whore..."), and immediately flipping the mic back on to finish the call ("...over to first, two outs").
I know there is a difference between Sunni and Shia Islam, but I refuse to learn what it is.
One major difference (I think) is that Sunni Muslims believe that Muhammad married an underage girl. And Shiite Muslims do not.
I worked with a Muslim attorney, nice guy. And I asked him what he thought about Sufis. These are the spiritual Muslims, Rumi was a Sufi poet.
Boy, did he go on a rant. He really hated those Sufis.

I wish Trump could have more faith.

The inhumane conditions at Nelson-Mandela High School in Nantes.
The site is closed until All Saints’ Day, classes online, restoration costs estimated in the millions.
The conditions were so inhumane that they had to set it ablaze to make them visible.
But who are they trying to fool?

Faith was his weapon.
a serial rapist whose weapon was neither force nor fear, but faith.
He had sex with a baby. Sick bastard deserves life in prison and worse.
I think a lot of time-scheduling for schools has more to do with the schedule of adults, not kids, at least at its origin. Just sayin'.
Saint Croix - The priest should convert to Islam. The prison doors will open for him.
Sorry, I accidentally put that in the wrong thread! Carry on.
He had sex with a baby.
Who had sex with a baby? What are you talking about?
@ Leland
LOL! That's the way it reads.

Okay, I get it, your mocking my post for saying he had a baby with his girlfriend. He didn't fuck the baby. Nobody is alleging that.

Here is the Texas penal code
the actor is a clergyman who causes the other person to submit or participate by exploiting the other person’s emotional dependency on the clergyman in the clergyman’s professional character as spiritual adviser;
another "potential rapist" is a doctor who has sex with a patient, or a former patient.
the actor is a mental health services provider or a health care services provider who causes the other person, who is a patient or former patient of the actor, to submit or participate by exploiting the other person’s emotional dependency on the actor
that's rape in Texas
you have sex with somebody who is emotionally dependent on you
they can't consent
they got the emotions and it's made them child-like and unable to say no, apparently
Unreal.

The peele commission which blamed the jews and hajamin
And not hajamin who started the hebron riot then with fritz grobbas assistence he started the 36 uprising which brought orde wingate into this
The Peel Commission blamed neither “the Jews” nor simply Haj Amin.

Yes, "Mandatory Palestine" was the name of the region administered by Britain under the League of Nations . . . Mandate.

The Jews under Ben-Gurion accepted the UN plan, as bad as it was, while the
Arabs rejected it.
"Fighting began" is a NYT-style euphemistic way of saying that the Arabs immediately began rioting and killing Jews, and then six weeks after the UN resolution launched a full-scale assault.

Read a history book.
